Mikhail Nikolayevich Tukhachevsky is a character appearing in the Hearts of Iron IV mod The New Order: Last Days of Europe that is a major character in the West Russian Revolutionary Front and can be potentially be the successor when Alexander Yegorov dies and can be a major antagonist of the Russian Storyline, and the villain protagonist if the Player chooses his route.

Mikhail Tukhachevsky belongs to the Stratocratic clique of the Western Russian Revolutionary Front which advocates more control of the Army than the Reformists (which its head by Georgy Zhukov) who advocates the needs of the people which end goal is to make Russia a Army with a state and eventually avenge the sins committed by the Germans against the Russian People in 1941.

In-Game Biography[]

The following text is off his in-game description.

1960s description:

"Mikhail Nikolayevich Tukhachevsky was always considered an eccentric, if talented, member of the Soviet High Command. A former noble, he turned against the conformity of his class and joined the Bolshevik party in their crusade against the old order. Victory after victory, every conquered city he dedicated to the cause of revolution and Vladimir Lenin paved the extraordinary career for the so-called 'Red Bonaparte', despite his young age.

Following the Soviet defeat against the Nazi tide, Tukhachevsky was one of the generals who formed the basis of the WRRF leadership, but soon the self-willed Marshal grew to disdain his colleagues for their weakness and incompetence that led Russia to be defeated by Nazis in the first place. Being concerned with his influence on the Front politics, the Front leadership granted Tukhachevsky with a small domain in Plesetsk, where he could stay away from the intrigues of Arkhangelsk and organize the defensive frontier against the enemies from the West.

A proponent of a revolutionary offensive war ever since his maturity as a Bolshevik military theorist, Tukhachevsky for a long time opposed the attempts of Bukharin to appease the enemies of the world proletariat, such as Germany and Japan, and tried to resist his ruinous reforms in the military complex, only for his voice to fall on deaf ears and his efforts to negated during the catastrophic course of the war with the Nazi Reich. Being a witness to the failed attempts of Bukharin's government to placate and defeat the bourgeois powers without a needed revolutionary vigor and determination, Marshal Tukhachevsky, a passionate warrior he is, only grew more convinced in his notion of the Red Army as the main instrument of a political change.

If the Soviet Union is bound to return under Tukhachevsky, it will return as an armed camp, eternally vigilant against its numerous enemies, with every cog inside its state machine rotated towards the final victory."

1970s description:

After the miserable failure of Operation: Suvorov, many of Mikhail Nikolayevich Tukhachevsky's colleagues in the West Russian Revolutionary Front had said that it was proof that his strange theories were more flawed than they appeared, and ignored his criticisms of the Red Army's conduct.

When Marshal Tukhachevsky took power in the Front, his detractors claimed that his brutal adherence to war communism would lead the Socialist cause in Russia to ruin, and that the army's purpose is to serve the state, rather than become the harbinger of the global revolution.

Once the rejuvenated Red Army marched beyond the Ural Mountains, there were those who still held that even a brilliant strategist like Tukhachevsky could never tame the harsh wastes of Siberia.

Now, however, they are silent. Grand Marshal Tukhachevsky has brought the Soviet Union together, and reforged it into a great engine to propel the Red Army forward as the most powerful military force in the history of man. The "Red Napoleon'' now turns his attention to the West, preparing for the final conflict against the Union's ultimate foe. He shall see to it that the Red Army, invincible and legendary, will achieve the victory that they were denied so many years ago.

No matter what the cost may be.

In Game[]

Tukhachevsky the grand marshal of the West Russian Revolutionary Front, and can be a potential leader of the WRRF when Alexander Yegorov passes away.

In order to get him in power, you must name him as a successor in the first WRRF focus tree by going to the left side of the first focus, and then spend political power to curtail Zhukov's ever growing influence.

Once Tukhachevsky is now in power, he will start consolidating his lands and starts his invasions on the other Western Russian warlords. When he conquers Komi, he puts the whole Passionaritary and most the Communist Party of Komi in summary executions with only 2 people from the communist party to be spared who are Yuri Andrapov(for unknown reasons) and Svetlana Bukhariana (Where he uses her as a legitimacy chip to make sure he is the new Soviet Leader).

If he conquers Vyatka before the other warlords do, an event called "End of the Romanovs" shows that he has no remorse to Vladimir III, and his family. The soldiers that are holding them custody are ordered to execute the royal family, without any form of pity, as Vladimir III was a Nazi collaborator during the West Russian War. Once he is done killing (almost) every leadership in Western Russia ruthlessly, he starts consolidating his own new lands by purging anybody who is against him with a good example which shows via event where he gasses a village that is under control of partisans, even if that village was loyal to his regime.

In the focus trees leading to the unification of Russia, it shows many of his heinous war tactics (which makes it easy for him to reunify Russia fast) that if used, shows a lot of Russian civilians murdered and presumably every warlord he faces (with the exception of Alexander Vasilevsky) its presumably that all the government head of states are either killed or fled away.

By the time he reunifies Russia, he is shown drawing up plans for one last war with the Einheitspakt.

Personality[]

Tukhachevsky is a ruthless, manipulative, opportunistic, Tyrannical Warmonger who's only redeeming quality is treating his own subordinates (yesmans) benevolently and with respect.

...Which is not saying that much, where he ruthlessly orders executions of any opponent who dares to speak out against his (questionable) ideas and commits heinous war crimes against other Russians (without thinking twice), just to realize his plans to make a new reunified Russian state as an army with a state and eventually play a game of Chicken with Germany not caring if his own people have to suffer another devastating war just to gain his revenge on the Nazis.

Even if he loses his leadership chance against Zhukov, he is shown to be very hard headed, delusional, and deceitful against Zhukov's government, by making acts behind their backs which in turns leads him to be forcefully retired by Zhukov at regional stage once he is caught red-handed.

Tukhachevsky is shown to exploit any advantage he gets, displayed in Steve Smith's adventure in Russia, where if he manages makes it to Arkhangelsk, the player is given a choice whether Steve is allowed to keep a truck, or the Grand Marshal orders the truck is seized, in return for a measly horse, to eventually cross into the warlord stage of Onega.

Tukhachevsky is also shown to vent out his frustrations a lot, as shown by Shokastovich's letter from him. Shokastovich replies back telling him "venting is healthy", but warning him to relax a bit.

Trivia[]

  • He was historically friends with Alexander Vasilvesky which he is the only other communist he can reunify with.
  • He is also historically friends and was a patron with Dimitri Shokastovich which he has direct correspondence with in Tomsk (via event). Despite this, peaceful unification is impossible with Humanist Tomsk.
  • Tukhachevsky was formerly able to unify with Omsk, due to their shared hatred of Germany with Dmitry Yazov.
  • Mikhail Tukhachevsky formerly practiced neo-paganism.
