Mob Zero is the titular antagonist of the Minecraft ARG SnapshotMinecraft, also known as The Story of Mob Zero. It is a predatory digital serial killer in the game that hunts down the titular player as they wear the skin of their victims they have previously killed. A recurring theme of the entity is its ability to manipulate the behavior of animals in the system to cause the player's game to glitch.
Biography[]
The story begins with the first video, titled "Start." The player, known by their IGN, SnapshotMCYT, goes through the basic process of starting a new world. At one point, the video cuts as soon as Snap makes a punch. Shortly after, there appear to be some chickens on a hill, stuck facing in one direction. Being anywhere near the chickens causes the footage to become distorted. The next episode, "Weird farm," was uploaded a few days after the first. Snap goes to his pig farm to get some pork, but they suddenly hear a constant piglet oinking. They immediately find the culprit, a baby pig in a fixed position, just like the chickens. Snap tries to fix the glitch by punching the piglet, but it causes the game to crash. The crash information reads "Failed to render entity.pig {age, -2614}...Fatal Error - Unknown entity:entity.Mob.0." The description gives even more context, having a console entry that says "entity;mob.pig returned nul - entity.unknown loaded - entity.unknown unloaded - server:close."
The unknown entity, given the name "Mob Zero," had apparently loaded into the game in the split-second time window between the player punching the pig and the server crashing. The entity has some control over the in-game animals, and it is evident that it is corrupted, given the "0" in its name. Five days later, the "Cave" video is released. As Snap is mining in a deep slate cave, the sound cave_chimes.ogg plays. It is an unused ambient sound file in 2011 from C418. The sound gets louder as Snap goes deeper into the cave, and they eventually find the source of the noise, which is a block wearing the texture of the Steve skin face. Another eerie sound is heard, and the player closes out of the game. On Snap's desktop, there is an image showing the silhouette of an entity, whose face appears heavily distorted, and everything else is too blurry to make out, but it is clear that it is Mob Zero.
