~ Monocrow introducing himself to the Killing Game participants.

Monocrow is the secondary antagonist of the Korean Danganronpa fangame Super Danganronpa Another 2. He's a virtual program modified to manage the Killing Game.

As the overseer of the Killing game, he's the one who enforces the rules and executes culprits who are found guilty of murder, as well as people who violate the rules.

Biography[]

Background[]

Monocrow was created by Yuri Kagarin in the Neo World Program simulation. When he was first created, his name was "Yuri", being named after his creator. His purpose as a program was to help people with astronomy.

However, after Mikado Sannoji stole the Neo World Program and used it to set up a virtual killing game, Monocrow was modified to serve as the "Monokuma" of that minigame and his name was changed to "Monocrow". He was programmed to obey Mikado's orders, oversee the Killing Game and execute participants during it.

Prologue[]

When the Killing Game participants were having fun on the beach, everyone suddenly lost consciousness and, by the time they woke up, it was dark. They then heard a mysterious voice telling them to go to the park. There, they found Monocrow, who claimed to be the teacher of their school trip. Monocrow then announced that the participants are gonna stay in that school trip forever and the only way to escape is by committing murder.

Everyone was scared and some thought of fighting Monocrow, until Mikado spoke and told them to not get close to it as it is too dangerous. He pretended that he was gonna save the participants until a gunshot was heard. A bullet pierced through Mikado's mask, breaking it in half.

The bullet came from Rei Mekaru, who was accompanied by Teruya Otori. Rei told everyone that they were being tricked and that Mikado was the mastermind of the Killing Game and was actually working with Monocrow.

After staying silent for a while, Mikado stated that 17 participants was too much. He then burned Rei to ashes and threw Teruya far away. At some point Syobai Hashimoto accidentally stabbed Sora while trying to murder Yuki Maeda, and Monocrow scolded him, saying that violence without intent of murder is not allowed.

Chapter 1[]

After the incident with the two outsiders, Mikado and Monocrow discussed off-screen about what they should do now that Mikado's identity was revealed.

Monocrow and Mikado gathered everyone at the park again the next day. Monocrow told everyone that they cannot try to kill in public like Syobai tried, they should kill without being found out. He also explained the rules of the class trials: if the murderer is found out only they will be executed and the rest of the participants will continue living on the island normally. And if the murderer is not found out, everyone besides them will be executed and the murderer will escape the island.

Mikado explained that, since he was found out as the mastermind, he will act like a normal participant in the Killing Game that can kill anyone, be killed by anyone and that Monocrow can execute him for violating the rules.

Monocrow later appears when Mikado and Syobai are fighting. Syobai said he had the intent of murder but Monocrow still scolded and told them they will be executed if they fight like that again.

After Yuri Kagarin was murdered, Monocrow played the body discovery announcement, telling everyone to go to the tower to investigate. He then gave everyone Monocrow files to help them with the investigation.

After Hajime Makunouchi was found guilty at the class trial, Monocrow executed him as requested by Mikado, even though Mikado promised Hajime that he would be spared.

Chapter 2[]

Sora was at the beach at night when she found an unconscious Teruya Otori, having arrived from the ocean. Monocrow then appeared and, without giving information, took Teruya while claiming he’ll introduce him later.

A few days later, Monocrow gathered all students at the auditorium, where he and Mikado introduced Teruya Otori while saying he’s gonna be a new participant of the Killing Game. Monocrow also announces that, since a class trial happened, the cruise will be moving to another island. Such a thing would repeat after every class trial with a new island.

Later, Setsuka, Yuki and Sora were trying to break into Kokoro's room since she wasn’t responding and Monocrow appeared saying that it’s against the rules. However, after Sora claimed Kokoro was in danger, Monocrow allowed them to enter while also stating they’re allowed to break the rules in situations like that. There, they found Kokoro’s dead body.

Just like in the last class trial, Monocrow gave everyone Monocrow Files to help with the investigation. Unlike the previous case, Monocrow didn’t specify the cause of death since that would interfere with the culprit’s disguise. In the class trial, Emma Magorobi was found guilty of Kokoro’s murder and was executed.

Chapter 3[]

As another class trial had happened, the cruise sailed to the third island. Before they were allowed to leave the ship, Monocrow warned everyone of the rules of the new island: since it was a park attraction, the participants would need to use their handbooks to open the gates, and if they went over the gate or used their handbooks to open the gate but didn't enter, they would be violating the rules. Monocrow also explained how to use the monorails to travel from one place to another.

Later, he and Mikado gathered the students at the auditorium again. There, they announced they will be giving the participants a gift, and then, one different video was sent to every handbook. The videos contained footage of the watcher's loved ones being killed or in a dangerous situation. He also explained that the video were incomplete and, to watch the full footage, they needed to commit murder. The footage would be shown regardless of if the culprit was found out in the class trial or succeeded in escaping. Monocrow also announced that a parade of robots would happen the next day.

In the next day, something surprised Monocrow when a murder happened: the murder was done by two people at the same time, who stabbed Setsuka at the exact second. Monocrow didn't approve of the idea of there being two culprits at the same time, but no matter how much he analysed the footage, there was no time difference between the two stabs, so he was forced to consider both of them to be the culprit.

During the class trial, the participants questioned why Setsuka's time of death wasn't specified in the Monocrow File, and Monocrow explained that, if a culprit puts effort into hiding a detail about the murder, that detail will not be added to the Monocrow file for fairness.

When Syobai came up with the two culprit theory he asked Monocrow what would happen if two people stabbed someone at the same time. Mikado explained that the one the one who gives the final impact to the victim will be the real culprit, and Monocrow explained that two people stabbing someone at the same time is impossible, but Syobai kept insisting on him, asking what if they truly stabbed Setsuka on the same nanosecond. Monocrow then admitted that, if they truly stabbed Setsuka at the same time with not a single time difference, there could be two culprits. When the participants confirmed that Kanade and Hibiki were both the culprit of the case, Monocrow unlocked a new option for them to vote for both as a single culprit, which they did.

As promised, Monocrow showed Kanade and Hibiki the full footage of their parent’s deaths. The video showed the killer recording the murder go to the bathroom and look at a mirror, revealing themself to be Kanade. After the video ended, Monocrow said it was too late (as the trial started near midnight) and decided to proceed with the execution. Since Kanade and Hibiki were both the culprit, Monocrow executed the two at once.

Chapter 4[]

After the last trial, nobody saw Monocrow anywhere for two days. However, later an unique announcement from him played: Monocrow, glitched with Monokuma’s image, asked everyone to gather at the oracle room in babel’s tower while stuttering. When most of the people gathered, Monocrow was completely silent and showed no movement, and only spoke when Iroha arrived.

Monocrow, ignoring everyone’s questions, explained that everyday they will have to assemble there and, if their name is called, they must pick a book from the library, take a look at it to find something useful if they’re lucky, and then go back. If they don’t do as said, they’ll be punished. They must pick the books in the correct order and cannot pick multiple books at the same time. However, instead of calling by their names, Monocrow called them using nicknames such as “V-001” and “tall guy”. Mikado stated that questioning him is useless as Monocrow, in its current state, won’t be able to do that. He was correct, Monocrow refused to answer any questions and acted like an emotionless robot.

As promised, Monocrow forced everyone to gather at the oracle room and do the same thing everyday. Since the entire simulation was glitching, some of the Killing Game’s rules were deleted, allowing participants to break some rules, such as using unnecessary violence, without getting punished by Monocrow.

When Shinji Kasai died, Monocrow came back to normal and his personality was back, his announcements even stopped glitching. Like always, he gave a Monocrow File to help the participants with the investigation.

During the class trial, Syobai asked Monocrow who can be considered the culprit in their case (Sora used Nikei’s unconscious hand to murder Shinji) and Monocrow refused to asnwer that as doing so would reveal who is the culprit. Later, it was found out Shini was the real culprit, having committed suicide to prevented Yuki from being executed, and they all voted for him.

In the post-trial, in order to get rid of Nikei, Mikado added a new rule to the handbook “Never betray Void”. Since Nikei had defected from Void days ago, he was executed by Monocrow for violating the rules.

Chapter 5[]

Since they were meant to go to the next island through the bridge, Mikado used his magic to blow up the Monocruise. Sora said he was violating the rules by damaging school property, but Monocrow simply denied it being against the rules without explaining properly.

As the Monocruise was destroyed, Mikado told everyone they should travel to the next island on the bridge, either by walking or using the vehicles/motorcycles near the road. Sora pointed out Monocrow was acting weird and asked if he was being threatened, with him still refusing to answer.

When everyone arrived, Monocrow said that they were in Higa City, a city based on a specific person who had multiple buildings and areas. He explained there were four different areas and, to go from one to another, they needed to use the gates on the outer road. He also explained that, since the Monocruise was destroyed, they were supposed to sleep in Motels, and gave keys to everyone.

Monocrow was about to reveal something, but decided against it since it wasn't irrelevant and "his role was gonna be over soon anyways". Monocrow also warned that there were two twin towers and going there at night is forbidden. In reality, he was saying this so that Iroha could paint a fake Teruya in there without getting discovered.

Monocrow disappeared for days until Teruya was murdered, and then the body discovery announcement played. When Monocrow arrived, he was completely different than before: he was completely emotionless and acted like a robot, only giving instructions without showing any personality. Everyone questioned why he was like that and Mikado said that he put some modifications on him.

As always, Monocrow gave the participants a Monocrow File, explained how the investigation worked and supervisioned the class trial.

During the class trial, Sora said he should have investigated the bridge more carefully, and Monocrow allowed the participants to exit the class trial for a re-investigation, something he had never done before. Mikado complained about it, telling him not to do that but Monocrow ignored him (Though knowing Mikado was the real culprit and had plans of framing Iroha, this was most likely intentional).

After everyone voted for Iroha Nijiue, Monocrow announced the verdict that they voted wrong and that Mikado Sannoji was the real culprit who killed Teruya, much to the surprise of everyone. Because they voted wrong, Monocrow subjected all four participants (Except Mikado) to an execution. However, just when they were about to die, the simulation crashed because of interference from the Kisaragi Foundation and glitched everything, making the participants teleport away from the execution and survive.

Chapter 6[]

When the simulation glitched, Monocrow's programmation was reset to before, when he still had a personality. He also regained his memories as Yuri.

Upon realising that his original purpose as Yuri was to help people, he decided to help the participants instead of Mikado. He then started helping them investigate while telling everything he knew about Mikado and the Killing Game.

Since Monocrow had redeemed himself and was on the side of the participants, Mikado, upon meeting him again, used his magic and blew up Monocrow, killing him.

Victims[]

  • Hajime Makunouchi: executed after being found guilty of Yuri Kagarin's murder. His body was stuck on a machine in a boxing arena with only his head out. A big guy with a Monocrow mask then appeared and kept repeatedly beating up Hajime’s head until the boxing score hit 999. The machine then mutilated Hajime’s body and transformed it into a doll.
  • Emma Magorobi: executed after being found guilty of Kokoro Mitsume's murder. She was trapped in a room and mutilated to death by several robots dressed as famous horror villains.
  • Kanade and Hibiki: both were executed for being found guilty of Setsuka's murder. Both were put on a platform with their necks tied with a chain, and there was a box with a key which would seemingly remove the chains. However, after Hibiki used the key on her chain, her head was decapitated and sent mid-air. The platform then disappeared and, since Kanade was tied to a chain, she was hanged to death.
  • Nikei Yomiuri: executed after violating the "never betray Void" rule. On his execution, he climbed a tower to the rooftop while escaping from reporter monocrows. He saw a helicopter with a ladder and jumped to grab it, but accidentally tried to use his right-hand, which had no fingers due to a recent explosion. Because of that, he was unable to grab the ladder and fell from the tower to his death.
  • Sora, Yuki Maeda, Yoruko Kabuya and Iroha Nijiue: Attempted victims. After voting wrong in the class trial, each of them were subjected to different executions, but since the virtual world glitched midway, all of them survived. Sora was supposed to be eaten by a shark while drowning, Yoruko was going to be drowned inside a glass box, Yuki was supposed to be crushed by a giant block and Iroha was going to be bashed against a wall before their executions were interrupted.
