Mortem, also known as the Demon King, is one of the two main antagonists (alongside The Dark Reaper) of ABM4 Studios' LEGO Ninjago universe.

He was once the illegitimate son of the Dragon King (the first user of the Dragon power). He joined the Sorcerers of Elfhem, but eventually was exiled after he was discovered using demon magic. Mortem was the former leader of the Band of the Dragon mercenary group and helped the Dracarys Empire ensure order in conquered territories. He fought along with his former best friend Varek in many wars and restored peace to the newly formed Dracarys Empire. However, after years of jealousy, resentment, desire for power and fear of death, led Lucifer to sacrifice his comrades to become the King of Demons. Mortem would later create a connection with the Elros family, promising them power and launching an invasion of the world. He was then the progenitor of demon hybrids, as he created almost every demon in existence and either programs or tasks them to devour humans, which makes their crimes fall into his shoulders as well. But after his defeat by Philip Dracarys, he became obsessed with finding a way to have the power of the dragon for himself, so he can finally be immortal. He would join many bodies, but turning them into demons or straight out possessing them to keep his spirit in the mortal world. He would prey on many humans and turn them into future vessels, including Raven and Wrath, eventually he would turn Sarah as a demon and vessel. He is the archenemy of the entire Elemental Guardian corps, Philip Dracarys, Varek, Arthur and Sarah Dracrays.

As the Demon King, he tyrannically rules the Dark Seven organisation (the Upper Ranks of demons, not to be confused with the Archdemons). His goal is to become an immortal and indestructible god and rule his own kingdom.

He serves as the main antagonist of the LEGO Dragon Warrior series (which is a spin-off series of the series). He serves as the overarching antagonist of Season 1: The Unwavering Resolve Arc, Season 2: Clash of Dragons Arc and Season 3, Part 1 - The Dragon Temple Arc. He serves as the main antagonist for Season 3, Part 2 - The Blood Eclipse Arc. He returns in Season 4, Part 1: Sorcerer Kingdom Arc as one of the two overarching antagonists (along with Wrath). He serves as one of the main antagonists of the War of Kings Arc (along with the Storm King).

He is most likely set to return in the upcoming LEGO Ninjago: Dragon Masters.

Story[]

Mortem was born a thousand years ago, his true name is Lucifer Dracarys, he is the illegitimate son of the Dragon King. Eventually, he would later become the King of Demons and launch his invasion of the world in the year 312 ADC (After the Dracarys Conquest) and started the First Great War. The war lasts for seven years, until Philip Dracarys, the First Dragon Warrior defeated him.

After his battle with the Dragon Warrior, Mortem was seriously weakened. He would spend the next 500 years recovering his power.

In August of the year of 855, Mortem started the Second Great War when he attacked the city of Eastwind. It is here where he faces Arthur Dracarys and killed his mother and turned his younger twin sister, Sarah Dracarys into a demon hybrid for unknown reasons.

Seven months later in March of 856, Mortem sent an army of demons under the control of two members of the Dark Council to attack the city of Troyden.

After the battle, Mortem summoned three members of the Dark Council, including Raven (an Archdemon), where he killed two members of the council and sent Raven to bring him Arthur and Sarah. He would also sent Wrath (his second-in-command) to aid Raven in the Battle at the Land of Elders, which led to George's death and Arthur leaving the Elemental Guardians and forming the Sons of the Dragon.

In Season 3, Mortem is seen with his most powerful servants: Wrath, Zar'ad, Azan and Raven. He attacks them with their failures and sadistically tortures Wrath for failing to bring him his vessel. He tells them that they would now carry out their missions with "suicidal devotion" and plans to tear Humanity from the inside, by using the Civil War.

Personality[]

There's only one word that describes Mortem, megalomaniac. Mortem only cares about power and himself. He is a sadistic, cunning, manipulative, deceitful and overall just diabolical individual.

He's extremely self-centred and overall egotistical, even though he's the most powerful demon that has ever lived, this shows how much he cares for his life. He is a master of psychological abuse, this was seen with how he manage to turn the main protagonist's sister into the "Vessel", where he will use the love she has for her mother to reveal herself.

He is shown to be extremely oppressive. This was seen with the Demon Empire, he rules the demon race with fear and makes the empire like a totalitarian dictatorship. He rules his demons with fear, as was shown in his meetings with members of the Dark Council.

Villainy:[]

  • Despite being a demon, Mortem has a clear moral agency since he was born human and has a clear understanding between right and wrong.
  • 1,000 years ago, Lucifer created the Band of the Dragon mercenary group and committed war crimes.
  • When he was in a death situation, the Source of Evil ( It is the embodiment of living things' collective consciousness) offered him to become the King of Demons if he sacrifices his comrades. He accepted.
  • He manipulated the Elros family (the family he wanted to wipe out) by offering immortality and power if they sacrifice hundreds of people to open a gate between the Mortal World and the Chaos Realm. His lies and manipulation on the Royal Family lead to many different consequences for the world:
    • His manipulation lead to the Royal Family enslaving the Dragon-shifters and Elementals to open a gate between the Chaos Realm and the Mortal World, which lead to the Demon apocalypse (both the demon invasion and pandemic), which lead Arthur Dracarys to become the monster he is now.
    • It also led to the massacre of the Royal Family, which led to the remaining members oppressing the Dragon-shifters and even murdering.
  • He corrupted hundreds of people and turn them into hybrid demons. Which makes him behind the demon apocalypse and pandemic.
  • Mortem launched a full-scale invasion on humanity, which started the First Great War, which resulted to hundreds of thousands of deaths.
  • Tried to kill Philip Dracarys, the First Dragon Warrior.
  • After he lost the Great War, he would built his strength to prepare another attack on humanity.
  • 500 years later, he attacked the city of Eastwind, starting the Second Great War.
  • He turned Sarah Dracarys into a hybrid demon, against her will.
  • Mortem killed Arthur and Sarah's mother right in front of Arthur.
  • He send Azan and Kalaos (four-armed demon) to attack the city of Troyden.
  • After the failed attack of Troyden, Mortem punished two members of the Dark Seven, by psychologically abused them and straight killed them in cold blood.
    • He also killed them because he viewed them as useless tools and killed them for not killing more people. Which shows his mindset, he only views strong and cruel people as the ones who should live and rule.
  • Sent Raven to the Land of Elders to capture or kill Arthur Dracarys.
  • He sent Wrath to aid Raven and Azan in the Land of Elders, which led to George's death and Arthur leaving the Elemental Guardians.
  • In Season 3, he summoned his most powerful demons and last members of the Dark Council, Wrath, Zar'ad, Azan and Raven, where he blames them why the invasion of humanity is failing and sadistically tortures Wrath and Zar'ad (although Zar'ad enjoyed pain on himself).
  • He sees the Civil War as an opportunity to tear the humans from the inside.
  • Mortem leads a massive attack on Crown's Peak, which is the capital of humanity. What makes it worse is that the city's people just survive from Arthur and the Sons of the Dragon's attack.
  • Tried to kill Arthur and Varek.
  • With his failed vessel dying, Mortem returned back to the Mortal World and used the Eclipse to merge the Mortal World with the Chaos Realm, which allowed pure demon spirits to enter the world and cause large amounts of destruction. He is directly behind all the deaths that occurred during the Season 3 Finale, which are: the Grandmaster, Richard, Ria, Elros soldiers and other Sons of the Dragon soldiers.
  • Began the Resurrection Ceremony to possess Sarah, right in front of her brother. He also restricted Arthur, so he can continue the resurrection process.
  • Although, Arthur managed to ruin the resurrection ceremony, however, Mortem unsuccessfully possessed Sarah and was going to kill Arthur, until, Varek saving the Elemental Guardians.
    • Despite getting a perfect vessel, Mortem realises because Arthur ruined the ceremony, Sarah lives, meaning Mortem was back to square one with his desire to find a perfect vessel and a way to have the Dragon's power for himself. This made him change his plans and desire to make Arthur his new vessel. He plans to turn Arthur into a demon (against his will) and possess him with the next Blood Eclipse.
  • His actions of merging the world with the Chaos Realm caused other creatures, such as Orcs to appear in the human world, which raided many villages and his corruption caused ecocide to Greenwood.
  • Overall, Mortem is a cold-hearted, murderous, manipulative demonic entity that seems to only care for power and control.
  • Since he created all half-blooded demons and the leader of full-blooded demons, that makes him responsible for all the crimes half and a full blooded demons committed, which makes all the deaths and suffering of people fall on Mortem's shoulders.

Trivia[]

  • Right now, Mortem and Arthur Dracarys are the only villains in the Villainsfanon.
    • However, Arthur is regarded as an anti-villain, which makes Mortem the only villain in the wiki from the Dragon Warrior series.
  • A theory has merged with Ricahrd/Mortem and the first Dragon Warrior are brothers.
  • ABM4 Studios has called Mortem the Dark Reaper of Dragon Warrior. And even states he is worse than The Dark Reaper from his LEGO Ninjago stop-motion series.
  • He is very similar to two anime villains: Isshiki Otsutsuki (from Boruto) and Muzan Kibutsuji (from Demon Slayer):
    • Mortem and Muzan are both Kings of Demons. They both treat demons as their fellow pawns and rule their organisation as a totalitarian dictator. Another similarity between Mortem and Muzan is that they are both extremely self-centred and desire to live forever.
    • Mortem and Isshiki are similar as they both seem to want a vessel and commit child abuse. If Mortem wants a vessel, then it is safe to assume that Mortem is possessing a human, just like Isshiki did to Jigen.
