Nightmare (EthGoesBOOM)

Nightmare is the overarching antagonist of the EthGoesBOOM YouTube channel.

He is the demonic leader of the Nightmare House, being the leader of the Nightmare animatronics particularly Nightmare Fredbear and PlushTrap who enjoys tormenting the animatronics until he along with the animatronics were sealed away inside the forbidden box. He is the archenemy of Golden Freddy.

Like everyone else in the channel, he is voiced by EthGoesBOOM, though he was formerly voiced by WhackyCast, who also formerly voiced Springtrap.

Personality[]

Like other villains in the channel, Nightmare is fully aware of being evil and relishes in his morals. While he's never been seen killing or has had any notable body count, it is evident he loves to kill anyone who steps inside the Nightmare House, and he also has plans to destroy everyone in the pizzeria and take over it. And as the leader of the Nightmares, while he hasn't been seen interacting with anyone other than Plushtrap and Nightmare Fredbear, it is clear he views them as "minions," as he outright calls them that, though he views Nightmare Fredbear as his second in command and Plushtrap as a mere minion and nuisance.

Speaking of Plushtrap, Nightmare heavily disapproves of Plushtrap's freelancing evil behavior and enforces him to behave and only do evil with his permission. As a result, the first time we see this, Nightmare punishes Plushtrap by making him play Tattletail and making sure he gets the good ending. The second time, Nightmare threatened to kill Plushtrap for his evil deeds against the Ultimate Custom Night, as well as stealing Nightmare Foxy, Chica, and Jack-O-Bonnie from him.

History[]

Like most of the other Nightmares, Nightmare's role on the channel has been rather minuscule, mostly due to how he spent the first few years of the channel being voiced by someone else, who made less and less appearances. His in-game self served as the main antagonist of the FNAF 4 playthrough, notable for "cheating" and ending runs in unfair ways. Eventually, when Eth decided he would voice Nightmare going forward, Nightmare started playing bigger roles.

His first large role was as the overarching antagonist of the Tattletail series. In it, after Plushtrap's failed offscreen attempt to kill him and become the leader, Nightmare punishes him by locking him in a room and forcing him to play Tattletail and would only let him out once he finishes the game, much to Plushtrap's anger. Later, after Plushtrap finishes the game, Nightmare informs him that he got the bad ending and he must get the good ending. Plushtrap gets the good ending in the next video, which permits Nightmare to let him out with a warning.

Beyond minor cameos, let's plays, and reactions, Nightmare appears in the Ultimate Custom Night reaction series, where he and his second in command, Nightmare Fredbear, react to their AI. Later, as Plushtrap forms his Anti Ultimate Custom Night group, Nightmare spends most of the story not noticing what Plushtrap is doing until the climax, when Golden Freddy, the Puppet, and Lefty inform him what has happened, causing him to yell at Plushtrap for what he has done and threatens to kill him, which proves to make Plushtrap comply with the heroes.

Later, during the Ultimate Custom Night Chaos let's plays, Nightmare appears with Scrap Baby, the Scooper, Tattletail, and Slender meeting up with Springtrap as part of the League of Indie Villains. Springtrap called them to get help for revenge on Balloon Boy and JJ for destroying his beloved axe, Tracy. Everyone, including Nightmare, rejected his help due to finding it petty and a waste of time.

Nightmare's last appearance in the channel so far was in the 1 Million Subscriber Special, where Freddy interviews him from within the Nightmare House. Nightmare claims his favorite part of the channel was when he took over the pizzeria and destroyed everyone. Freddy tells him that never happened, and Nightmare assure it didn't happen yet, as he disappears laughing evilly, creeping Freddy out and making a note to upgrade the security.

In Other Media[]

Nightmare appears as the main antagonist and final boss of the RPG fan-game Five Nights at Eth’s world, where he infects the other animatronics of the game using the nightmare mushroom, can only be defeated by four golden mushrooms.

Trivia[]

Prior to being recasted, Nightmare only had two (now private) let's plays on the channel, where he played Yandere Simulator and Whack Your Ex.
- The voice Whacky gave Nightmare was a heavily distorted and somewhat unintelligible voice. When Eth started voicing him, he gave Nightmare a voice similar to Springtrap, albeit deeper and toning down the country accent.
- There exists some archive of Nightmare's old voice provided by Whacky, particularly the FNAF World series (original loading screen and challenger battle, both which used reused audio) and the Nightmare animatronic voice sample video featuring Nightmare (though strangely, Whacky remains uncredited in both videos).
Ironically, after forcing Plushtrap to play Tattletail, Nightmare would be seen to be on good terms with Tattletail himself, as seen as whe the two of them are part of the same Indie Villain League.
