Shadow Freddy, better known as Nightmare, is the overall main antagonist of Five Nights at Freddy's: The Stories by Zajcu37. He specifically serves the unseen overarching antagonist of Season 1 , the overarching antagonist in Season 2, one the two main antagonists (alongside Springtrap) of Season 3, and the main antagonist of Season 4. He is the leader of the Nightmare animatronics, the boss of Mangle and Toy Chica's arch-nemesis.
He is simply voiced by text-to-speech, which also did for all of the animatronics, but not a humans.
Biography[]
Backstory[]
He is once a human who works as a technician at Fredbear's Family Diner until he was fired after being falsely accused that he damaged Fredbear, which is actually the night guard, causing him to have mental issues and he turned violently towards his family, he was kicked out and became homeless, and he's planning to kill the night guard by programming Fredbear but something went wrong, it attacked and killed him instead of the night guard, which his body was hidden from the whole world.
After his death, his soul got out of his body and entered The Artifact, which gave him the powerful body. He tried to use The Artifact but it making the mistake that caused his soul spilt into four parts, only three went to Fredbear, SpringBonnie and Puppet, the fourth part leave the place until it's closed in 1985.
Freddy Fazbear's Pizza was opened with the new animatronics, with Puppet also giving them life. However the fourth part entered Freddy's head and he's been trapped in his head more than 30 years, the place was also closed and the new restaurant was opened.
Meeting and Offering with Mangle[]
While he's still trapped in Freddy's head. He turned into the form of Shadow Freddy and then Mangle found the Artifact that was hidden in the pizzeria, when she touched it. Shadow Freddy came out from the Artifact, revealing himself to her. He tells her about that she is upset after the bad treatment from humans and he offered her to help by getting him free and take over humanity and she agreed with him. Their goal was to cause the pizzeria closed, so they can go back to the first pizzeria.
He will later makes Mangle to put the Artifact in Freddy's head, causing him to have hallucinations and he told Freddy to follow his voice, and he led him to the office, presenting himself, revealing the truth how did Freddy and his friends were put out of the service, and he finally finds out that Golden Freddy is the one who damaged the animatronics and later woke up from his dream. During at the time where Golden Freddy was attacking the toy animatronics, he forces Mangle to kill the night guard under his control. Shortly after, Mangle went disabled at 6AM.
Controlling Springtrap[]
After moving to the new pizzeria, which they supposed to be arrived at the first place. Shadow Freddy tells Mangle to find and use Springtrap who was trapped in the basement, to get a new location to closed as well, Mangle is able to use the device that will implanted in Springtrap's head and Shadow Freddy would control him. Twenty Three years later, Toy Chica encounters Springtrap in the bathroom and knocked her out, he was about to kill her but Shadow Freddy stopped him from killing her because he needed Toy Chica, then Springtrap is able to destroy all of them and the pizzeria is closed, but they went to Fazbear's Fright instead.
Meeting Toy Chica[]
During when Toy Chica is trying to Freddy in his memory, she sees Shadow Freddy in the memory because he was stuck there for the long time. When he told his backstory about his life as the human and also about how did they came to life to her, and warned her about the creature called Nightmare, and he also told her about there's a traitor among them. After that, Springtrap set the place on fire, causing the owners to move the animatronics to the first location. Everyone has reunited at the first location, Springtrap has been freed from Shadow Freddy's control and joins the family, and Shadow Freddy and Mangle has finally made it to the first pizzeria.
The Release of Shadow Freddy[]
Later in 2020, Mangle has programmed the Endoskeleton to comfront Freddy in the kitchen and released Shadow Freddy from his head. After got out from his head, he came from the kitchen to the main room where the animatronics had gathered around. Revealing himself is the Nightmare. He took the parts of the soul from everyone (except for Mangle) and changing his form as Nightmare. Then he summoned the other nightmare animatronics and Golden Freddy, Toy Chica, Springtrap, Puppet, Bonnie and Toy Freddy, escaped and locked themselves inside the kitchen while the others were left behind and became Nightmare's prisoners.
Nightmare command them to open the door, but they weren't unable to capture them in time as they will use Golden Freddy's teleporter to escape and Nightmare opened the door and throw his sword at the back of Bonnie before the portal closed, and killing him.
Arriving at Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria II[]
While they are tried how to activate the teleporter to get the other animatronics, Nightmare forced Mangle to kill Foxy because he wanted to test her loyalty, eventually killing him, and Nightmare gave her the reward to give her a lot of power, and her colours changing to yellow and black, after Foxy's death. They find out that the access was blocked and it's only permitted by Golden Freddy, then he stabbed Toy Bonnie with his sword and turn on the teleporter himself, until Nightmare killed him after activated it, and later they went in and has reached to the second location.
He has sent Nightmare Mangle to deal with Springtrap while he is dealing with Toy Freddy and Puppet who were defending Golden Freddy from him. They've programmed the Rockstar animatronics that they found in Parts and Service room to attack him, but Nightmare has killed them all, then later killed Toy Freddy and Puppet. He and the nightmares has reached to Toy Chica and Golden Freddy. They were about to activated the teleporter, with Toy Chica to leave the place. However, Plushtrap has snuck in the room and sabotaged it without her knowing. Until the portal was randomly opened, Toy Chica runs to it. Nightmare tried to throw the sword towards to her, but Golden Freddy jumped to get hit instead, during that time. Nightmare would provoked and mocked Toy Chica and she gets mad and punched him. He strongly punched her back, and then. He beat and damaged her very badly while Future Toy Chica is there without Nightmare's knowledge during that time, but Nightmare did not pay attention on her afterward, which causing her to escape using the time travel device. It made him very angry that he ripped Golden Freddy's head off, and Nightmare punches Nightmare Bonnie.
After all that, they've went to the main room where Nightmare Mangle has defeated Springtrap, but went blind during the fight, causing Nightmare to killing her by decapitation. Then the portal opened with Plushtrap falling out, after he failed to kill Toy Chica, he gets even more angry that he wasn't able to kill her, but he does not kill him because he needed to use him. Until Mangle teleported to the place, explaining why she's here because Nightmare has disappeared for three weeks, and the police were there to check the place. He was shocked after hearing this, then he remember that he killed Toy Bonnie was able to cause the sabotage before he killed him.
Massacre at the First Location[]
They've went back to take care the problem and killed all the cops around here. They would also used the corpses to create the murder mystery, and used the imprisoned animatronics, knocking them out, and puts them in next to the dead bodies, They will make it look like that they're the ones who killed the cops.
Creating the Army[]
After the massacre. Nightmare and the other Nightmares has been teleported and take over the Human Factory, and using the place to create his army and successfully took over, starting the war and it is still going for 100 years.
Years later in 2120, he is seen in the room of darkness when one of the hunters came in to reported that the anomaly they detected nearly to the city. But he doesn't have interest to it, and the hunter ask him that it's related to time travel, and Nightmare was shocked about this report and he remembered that Toy Chica escaped with a time machine 100 years ago. Tells the hunter to keep him informed of the progress.
Personality[]
Back in the day as the human, his personality is shown to be nice and protective father and worker that who wanted to take care of his family, including himself. He always love working at Fredbear's Family Diner and wouldn't want everything better than it. Later on, after he was fired from his job, his personality has been changed into the dangerous man when he tried to kill The Night Guard for framing him as sabotaging one of the animatronics by using Fredbear, but It all went wrong, he was murdered by Fredbear instead.
As the animatronic, he is now psychopathic, cruel, manipulative and sadistic. He also doesn't like when he gets outclassed as Toy Chica tricked him and got into the portal before one of the nightmare animatronics got in with her. He also likes to test others loyalty to him, as he requested Mangle to kill Foxy into getting more powerful and as hard as it was for her, she did as her Lord said and killed him. He was proud for her for doing so and did as he promised. He is also extremely confident to the point of arrogance. He was unfazed by Toy Chica telling him that they'll defeat him and that his self-confidence will backfire against him, only laughed it off. He also likes to provoke others, as he provoked Toy Chica and mocking her until he got what he wanted off her, by getting her mad and hit her, with Nightmare damaged her armour so badly.

The next day, it turned out that the company has accused worker for sabotage and the worker lost his job... before he left his place of work, next to the damaged robot, he found the item which belonged to the night guard. The revenge has consumed him. Later he also lost money, home and family, he was all alone. He lost everything he cared for, he understood that from now on the only purpose of his life was killing the night guard. One night, he sneaked to location the night guard watched. He wanted to reprogramme one of the robots to kill the night guard, but something went wrong. Animatronic instead of attack the night guard, attacked the former worker. The robot, many times, hit him and it turned out to be deadly for him. When the night guard showed up, it was too late, the worker was dead. The company hid the whole incident from the world in order not to spoil its reputation, everyone thought that the worker was dead but it was not true, he survived, thanks to his great hatred that he felt for all people. As a piece of soul he found a subject which gave him enormous strength and power, the only thing that stopped him was the lack of a complete physical body, this ball could create a physical body. But once again, he made a mistake. His soul was divided into four parts, each part of the soul was looking for a place to hide. Three parts of the soul have hidden in two robots and in the puppet, giving them life, each of them possess their own personality and powers, the power of giving life. The power thanks to which you can teleport and penetrate any object, the power of great strength and control. The last part of the soul was wandered across location for many years. Until the current location was closed and Freddy Fazbear's Pizza I was opened, new animatronics have appeared. During this time, puppet gave life to all new robots, dividing the soul into smaller parts. At this time, the last part of the soul was connected with Freddy's head, it was very weak so he wasn't able to control the robot, the soul was imprisoned. Later, Puppet gave life to the rest of the robots by splitting the soul into smaller and smaller parts. And that's why you are alive, you have feelings, you can love, you can feel compassion, cry and sad, each of you have part of the soul which has ceased to be a human and became the creature called Nightmare. Trivia[]
- This is version of Nightmare is the only one where he and Shadow Freddy are the same character.
- Nightmare's human model is an alternate version of the BLU Engineer from Team fortress 2, just without the goggles and the overalls.
- There were plenty of easy-to-miss foreshadowings that indicated that Shadow Freddy is Nightmare or atleast he didn't had good intentions:
- Everytime where Shadow Freddy said "Everything is going according the plan" or "X Step Completed" was when Freddy and the others were harmed by the situation, also he said that rather calmed, despite Shadow seemingly being on Freddy's side.
- In the final battle against Golden Freddy, Shadow Freddy ordered Mangle to kill the guard, despite that him wasn't an actual threat to the animatronics, this shows that Shadow Freddy deep down was lethal and homicidal.
- Also this foreshadows that he and Mangle had connection, and Freddy wasn't the only one back then.
- When Toy Chica and Shadow Freddy were talking in Freddy's mind, the latter told that if Nightmare catch him he will become his servant, he shows how his hand would look as a Nightmare version and it looked similar if not the same as Nightmare's. This was the most clear that he was Nightmare.
