Nightmare Freddy, also known as Infernal Freddy and Dreadbear, is a minor antagonist in Five Nights at Freddy's fanfiction Mike's New Ghostly Family, by Archcommander-Tenebros.

He is a demon who is a part of the Nightmares, a clan ruled by Nightmare, all members of whom take forms of monstrous animatronics from Freddy Fazbear's franchise as a testament to the corruption of innocense that is associated with the franchise. He makes up ranks of Lesser Nightmares with Nightmare Bonnie, Nightmare Chica and Nightmare Foxy, and is a father of Freddles.

Appearance[]

Nightmare Freddy takes form of monstrous version of Freddy Fazbear animatronic. He is a brown bear animatronic who wears black tophat and bowtie. He has sharp teeth and claws, and his eyes glow with yellow color. Compared to other two bear-like Nightmares, Nightmare and Nightmare Fredbear, Nightmare Freddy is lankier than them, though still bulkier than a human. As Infernal Freddy, his coloration is orange, while his insides start glowing with orange flames, and his eyesockets become empty and glowing.

His true demonic form was not described in detail, so it's impossible to deduce its appearance. It was described as a hideous, monstrous abomination that would drive a weak mind insane and strike fear even into the heart of a seasoned average demon lord.

As Dreadbear (an embarrassing costume Nightmare forced him to wear when he lost the game of Yu-Gi-Oh!), Nightmare Freddy has duller greenish-gray color, is covered in stitches and has screws on the sides of his jaw. His teeth are flat, eyes are monochromatic white and he has thick scowl on his face. His overall appearance looks less damaged than his Nightmare Freddy form. In this form, he bears a strong resemblance to a Frankenstein's monster.

Personality[]

Nightmare Freddy, as befitting for a demon, is cruel, vicious and malevolent. He enjoys torturing wicked souls, indulging himself in acts of wickedness, and takes great delight in seeing other suffer, whether in tortures or due to failings in their games. Of all lesser Nightmares, Nightmare Freddy is the cruelest and the most methodical, and in battle, he may occasionally rip off the living foe's limbs one at a time, relishing in the victim's screams before killing them. When playing the role of a host to the Schmidt children in "Curse of Dreadbear" pack, he and Nightmare Foxy gleefully mock and ridicule the ghost kids for their failings, justifying their behavior as a typical behavior for demons.

However, in spite of his negative qualities, Nightmare Freddy genuinely cares for Freddles, his children, and was outraged when he learned that Vucarik harmed them and stole their essences. He also displays some slivers of honor, as he refuses to mock the ghost kids when they fail due to faulty mechanics that are no fault of their own, and when he learns that Liz lost in Plushbaby level, he even provides her with a way to cheat through the level, aware of the infamous reputation of Plushbaby levels and considering them to be a blatantly unfair challenge.

History[]

Nightmare Freddy and his kin resided in the lowest circles of Hell for thousands of years, their name feared all over Hell and their rule secured and uncontested. When Evan Afton, the victim of Bite of '83, wished Michael to suffer for his death and torments that he lived through, Old Man Consequences granted his wish in the most unwanted way possible by siccing Nightmares after him. Nightmare Freddy and his kind took form of twisted and monstrous Fazbear franchise animatronics for that torture, which they kept afterwards as a testament to the corruption of innocense that was associated with the franchise.

Together with Nightmare Bonnie, Nightmare Chica and Nightmare Foxy, Nightmare Freddy continuously terrorized Michael in cursed dreams, tormenting him with knowledge that he killed Evan and brutally murdering him throughout the nights, until Michael overheard Evan's voice telling him to fight back and started resisting the Nightmares. When challenged, Nightmare Freddy tells him that, in order for him to escape his cursed dreams, he needs to survive until 6 AM. During the trials, Nightmare Freddy would attack Michael from the bed, being summoned by Freddles, forcing the teen to ward them off with the flashlight. He and the other Lesser Nightmares would disappear at fifth and seventh nights, with Nightmare Fredbear and Nightmare himself taking their places respectively, though they would return at sixth and eighth nights, more aggressive than ever before, before the two respective Greater Nightmares would replace them at 4 AM.

Once William Afton perished, Nightmare Freddy and his fellow Nightmares got their hands on his soul, torturing them to their content, and once the murderer lost his wager to Nightmare, unable to break up Schmidt's new family, their torture only intensified further now that the heavenly protections were withdrawn from him, with Infernal Freddy being the one who dragged him into a torture device that reenacted his death in Spring Bonnie suit. Though Nightmare Freddy and his fellow Nightmares did not interact with Mike Schmidt and his family, instead preferring to tend to their own businesses and occasionally making fun of the Schmidts from shadows by negatively affecting their games' luck.

One day, Vucarik invaded the Nightmares' realm and, after distracting them with his forces, intruded into their base, grievously injuring the younger Nightmares and stealing their essences, which he gave to William Afton before sending him to the mortal realm. Nightmare Freddy was horrified by the sight of his own children being injured and swore vengeance against their attacker, shedding his animatronic form with his fellow Nightmares before joining Lucifer's loyalists and the status-quo supporters in the Hell's civil war, turning the tide of battle against Vucarik's forces into their favor. As Nightmare himself joined the battle, destroyed Vucarik's armies and then easily defeated Vucarik himself, Nightmare Freddy and his fellow Nightmares joined in discussing on how to torture the would-be usurper, while Nightmare would come to the mortal world with Nightmare Fredbear and Nightmarionne to assist the Schmidts in stopping Afton.

Once Afton was brought back to Hell, Nightmare Freddy discussed the murderer's tortures with his fellow Nightmares, with Nightmare proposing to force him to relive the torments of the nightguards that perished at Freddy Fazbear-related establishments, but pit him against every single animatronic that ever existed, and make him the laughingstock of the entire Hell. The demon lord ordered his fellow Nightmares to conduct research on all animatronics related to Freddy Fazbear and Circus Baby's franchises, while he would design the layout of Afton's new prison. Nightmare Freddy decided to entrust the younger Nightmares with this task, as they would be glad to have revenge on William for stealing their essences. Once the prison was ready, Nightmare Freddy brought William Afton to his new prison and put him in the office, preparing the murderer for his new torments.

When Nightmare discovered about Glitchtrap from Mike and shared his findings with his fellow Nightmares, they all were furious at how Afton managed to cheat death yet again. Nightmare Freddy mused that the Remnant was what managed to allow Glitchtrap to come into existence. Once Nightmare was taught by Old Man Consequences on how to perform the ritual that would destroy every single Glitchtrap-possessed copy of the game, Nightmare Freddy and the other Nightmares helped him in performing the ritual, destroying every single copy of VR game that contained Glitchtrap, though they soon learn that one Glitchtrap had managed to escape the confines of its game copy. Afterwards, all Nightmares sans Nightmare Bonnie (who was entrusted with researching Glitchtrap's nature and behavior) were dismissed, while Nightmare would go on to secure the complete control over the video game development.

After gaining complete autonomy over the video game development, Nightmare managed to recreate and improve the game, implementing multiple failsafes to ensure that Glitchtrap won't return, including the addition of Nightmare animatronics imbued with their demonic essence, allowing them to possess their video game counterparts. Nightmare Freddy (who was now known as Dreadbear due to being forced to wear an embarrassing costume after losing the game of Yu-Gi-Oh!) served as a host to ghost children in the new video game world included by Nightmare in the new "Curse of Dreadbear" DLC, explaining to them about the nature of the pack and the fact that there is a secret carefully hidden within the game that would help Schmidts in finding out who the victim is. He was also awaiting for the Schmidt children in the Game Over room, constantly laughing at and mocking their failings together with Grim Foxy, though when Liz lost at Plushkin Patch, Dreadbear and Grim Foxy didn't mock her, acknowledging the unfairness of Plushbaby levels, and Dreadbear even provided her with an assistance on how to cheat through the level by raising the game's brightness to the maximum. He also preemptively notified Fritz of the highscore bug in Pirate Ride so that former Foxy inhabitant won't suffer from the bug-induced failure that would be no fault of his own.

When Gabe played through the third and final night of "Danger! Keep Out!" level, Dreadbear sent Plushtrap to him as a prize, jumpscaring him and sending him to the Game Over room. Though he was amused at the sight of Gabe being furious at sudden jumpscare, he clarified that the level would still be considered beaten and explained that he sent Plushtrap after him to discuss some important matters with him. He explained that the final level that contained only Grim Foxy was unlocked, and requested Gabe to bring Mike Schmidt to play through the level so that Grim Foxy would help him find a secret that Nightmare hid. Afterwards, he explained to Mike that, to play the secret, he must put on the mask that he found and look at Glitchtrap's plushie when wearing him. With that information, he and the other Nighmares withdrew their essences from the game, with Dreadbear confessing before departing that he found it entertaining to play host to Mike's children, complimenting them on sharing Mike's determination, but taking a potshot at their lack of skill. Once he withdrew his presence from the game, Nightmare Freddy immediately rushed out of the room to finally take off Dreadbear costume that he disliked so much.

Much later, when Nightmare learned of Fazbear Entertainment's Special Delivery project and the fact that Mike Schmidt had his arm and leg broken by their Toy Bonnie animatronic, he decided to take matters into his own hands, invading the minds of executives. Nightmare Freddy, along with the other Lesser Nightmares, took part in torturing them before Nightmare moved on to finish the job and then present his ultimatum.
