Oliver is the main antagonist of the Tobias and the Sentinels trilogy, serving as the overarching antagonist in Tobias and the Half-Pariah, one of the two main antagonists in Tobias and the Arcane Merchant (alongside Tobias), and will most likely be the main antagonist again in the finale Tobias and the Birch Cathedral. He was a LNER J70 Tram and was later turned GWR 14xx engine who was the younger brother of Tobias and friend of Montague.
He was voiced by James Pyle in Tobias And The Half-Pariah and John Robledo in Tobias And The Arcane Merchant.
Biography[]
Background[]
Many years ago, Oliver started off as steam tram, working at Laournaeth harbor with his older brother, Tobias. He was assigned to scrap trains, and to look for engines in scrapyards, that certain designers would use as experimental prototypes, he then would found Montague in Cromsfield Scrapyard, where he was given the nickname, “the merchant”, Oliver was promised he’s going to be the first successful experimental hybrid. After Tobias getting into an accident one night when Montague was pulling the express, a part of Montague's engine was implanted into Tobias's body to make him the first steam-diesel hybrid instead of Oliver. Because of this accident, Tobias’ mind became dormant within his own body and that another persona had taken over, and so the designers were forced to go into hiding, and this persona would then start life as a new engine in East Anglia as Toby.
Oliver was instead converted into a GWR Class 1400, in order to threw the British government off their trail, promised to finally become a hybrid after Tobias’ conversion was finished. After seven years of waiting and working across different railways, Oliver decided to return to Laournaeth in order to search for Tobias' whereabouts, and met Montague again, then noticed his blue eyes, and Oliver was once told by the designers that if either Montague or Tobias' conversions gained them blue eyes, Tobias' consciousness would still be dormant in either both of them. So Oliver stayed by Montague's side since hoping that Tobias might fight his way back. But it never happened.
Tobias and the Half-Pariah[]
Oliver is first seen pulling a passenger train where he first meets Tobias, he then talks to him about his abilities until Gordon passes by, he leaves with his train afterwards. Oliver is then seen spying by the engine shed seeing Tobias and Gordon's banishment from Sodor, where he goes to the Other Railway to inform Montague of Tobias's whereabouts.
Later, Oliver informed Montague and criticized him on the fact that Montague can't seek Tobias himself. He was also the one to inform Montague of Mavis' demise and Lugwig later arrived introduced Gordon to Montague. He was also present when Gordon took Tobias to see Montague and left along with Atherton and Ludwig.
Oliver is later seen participating in the battle of the steam engines and diesels, only to flee after the steam engines started fighting back, in the post-credits, he can be seen watching Tobias and Henrietta from a hill.
Tobias and the Arcane Merchant[]
After sending a brake-van named Seward to Sodor, he confirms his case that Tobias is still dormant within Toby, Oliver arrives at Sodor, with a false intention on living there. He and Toby were on their way to the quarry, when James ambushed them and was angry with Toby for having Oliver staying on Sodor, also that James feels being betrayed. James much to his disappointment that he always knew that Toby would betray all of them, and wants Toby to leave Sodor. Oliver decided on using a war shire reset on Toby, by knocking in him in a watery ditch.
When Tobias’ conscious finally reawakening and reunited with Oliver, he explains he needed him, on finding the hybrid conversion machine the designers once used him, but Tobias does nothing only to belittles him for any reason (aside only to agreed to getting ride of Toby’s conscious still existing). Atherton is concerned for Oliver’s wellbeing, tried to convince him to abandon his brother. At Tidmouth Sheds, Oliver witnessed and was horrified when his brother brutally kills Thomas.
Tobias reveals to Oliver he realized the location is marked on a crane he’s been pulling around. Oliver tricks Tobias the next morning into leading him to the machine’s whereabouts, Oliver secretly followed him, and gets into the machine first.
After the battle with Tobias, Henrietta and Daisy fled Cromsfield with Toby, and the destruction the designer's machine came down, it is revealed that Oliver survived and has succeeded becoming a hybrid as he stares out at the moon remembering Montague’s words to erase Tobias from his life.
Tobias and the Birch Cathedral[]
Oliver will most likely return in the finale as the main antagonist.
Personality[]
In the past, Oliver’s brother Tobias always puts him down, belittles and outright threatens his little brother for even the smallest infraction in spite of how much Oliver loves him. Oliver wanted was to be something unique and was bullied by his older brother Tobias. And then after bringing Tobias back, the revived engine does nothing but belittle his brother for any reason (aside only to agreed to find the hybrid conversion machine for the purpose of getting rid of Toby) and outright threatens him to the point Atherton tries to convince Oliver to abandon his brother at one point.
Oliver is a bit of an attention-seeker, as he finds somewhat comforting when the engines on Sodor finds him terrifying, knowing that at least he’s being noticed.
He was even horrified when his brother Tobias kills Thomas and when he found out that Tobias killed a guard, showing that he has some sympathy for others and doesn't wish for a fair amount of people to die.
Atherton attempts to convince Oliver to abandon his brother, but the latter says he needs him in order to become “whole”.
Atherton sees him as brilliant and completed and wants Oliver to see it, but Oliver can’t accept it, saying he just rather wants to be strong to be complete.
Oliver is shown to be quite smarter compared to his brother as he was able to follow Tobias to the designer's machine since he knew where it was.
He is also shown to not give up on his dreams as he never gave up on finding the designer's machine in order to become a hybrid engine just as he was promised.
Appearance[]
Oliver is a green Great Western auto tank engine, he was originally built as a brown GER Class C53 0-6-0T steam tram.

“ | Oliver: I just received word from Atherton, they reached Sodor without a hitch and we'll let me know if anything turns up. Montague: I'm so close, it's in my reach, after so long... Oliver: If I may say so, I think it would be you seeking Tobias right now. Montague:...What? Oliver: As the leader of this operation, you should be seeking Tobias yourself, oh but that's right, what would a tank engine do if he finds the most powerful engine in the world? Montague: I DIDN'T ASK FOR YOU'RE OPINION! Oliver: Too bad i gave it to you anyway. |

“ | Oliver: I'm not anybody. Not yet. | „ |
~ Oliver |
“ | Oliver: It's kind of heartbreaking though, how easy that was, I realize how predictable you were, and here you always tell me how small I was... little Ollie indeed...! But I know the truth now... all those years ago, the designers told me that they needed a truly weak, pathetic and loan some engine and turn them into their first hybrid... and they were as good as their word! Tobias: HOW DARE YOU!! Oliver: I wanted you to see me, really see me, to want be whole and strong, and real, like you. I spent my whole life trying to be perfect for you, but I know now, you were never really stronger than me were you, Tobias? Tobias: I’LL KILL YOU! Oliver: Hmm... Perhaps I should thank you though, Atherton told me my life is out there, waiting for me, and now you finally given me everything I need. Tobias: I’LL KILL YOU!! Oliver: NO YOU WON’T, You been dead for eighteen years now, I'm not afraid of ghosts. Tobias: THIS, IS MY LIFE!! Oliver: YOUR’E LIFE IS OVER!!, but mine is just beginning! That's right, Tobias, there you are, so go on then, cry! |
