Biography[]
Backstory and WWII[]
Oskar Dirlewanger was born in Würzburg, Germany in the year 1895. He joined the Imperial German Army in 1913 and fought in the First World War. After the war, he joined the young NSDAP or Nazi Party. The police described him as "mentally unstable, violent, and fanatic alcoholic who had a habit of erupting into violence under the influence of drugs," and he joined paramilitaries that aided the NSDAP. In 1934, he was put in prison for the rape of a 14 year old girl. He was released after two years due to his political connections.
In 1939, Dirlewanger joined the Waffen-SS, and was placed in charge of 36th Waffen Grenadier Division, an anti-partisan unit that was later known as the Dirlewanger Bridade. When the Second World War broke out, Dirlewanger took part in the invasion of Poland and committed several cruelties against civilians that appalled even other Nazi officials. During the invasion of Russia, the Dirlewanger Brigade accompanied the Wehrmacht and committed even more barbarities against the locals. After WWII ended, Dirlewanger and his brigade remained stationed in the newly-conquered Russian territories.
When the West Russian War began in the 1950s, the Dirlewanger Brigade was again sent to back up the Wehrmacht. However, Dirlewanger and the rest of the SS were involved in a conspiracy led by Heinrich Himmler to overthrow the German government. This conspiracy was uncovered by Hans Speidel, and the Wehrmacht began a preemptive attack against Dirlewanger's SS forces. In response to this, Dirlewanger and his unit escaped into the unconquered Russian wastelands. He took over the sity of Orsk and set up headquarters there, establishing a bandit-state with his Brigade that raids the surrounding Russian territories.
In-game[]
The Dirlewanger Brigade is a non-unifying Russian warlord-state in the Southern Urals. Oskar Dirlewanger's ideology is listed as National Socialism. Dirlewanger's neighboring warlords include Magnitogorsk under Trofim Lysenko, the Ural League under Fr. Jānis Mendriks, and the Worker's Council of Orenburg.
The focus tree of the Dirlewanger Brigade involves a potential alliance with Lysenko's Magnitogorsk, as Lysenko requires human test subjects for his experiments. Should such an alliance be made, Dirlewanger will eventually plan to backstab Lysenko. In his conquests, Dirlewanger will destroy villages, and any civilian not killed will be sent to Lysenko for experimentation. The two will invade both Orenburg and the Ural League. Dirlewanger will later invade Magnitogorsk itself, either winning or losing.
Dirlewanger does not have the ability to unify Russia. If he succeeds in his goals, Dirlewanger will eventually die on his own, and the land he conquered will collapse into a state of chaos.
Personality[]
Oskar Dirlewanger is consistently shown to be sadistic, violent, and unhinged. Apart from his countless acts of murder and rape against civilians, Dirlewanger is also shown to be abusive to his underlings, often shooting people when angry. He is very hedonistic, as is seen by his heavy drinking of vodka and by his sexual deviancy. Furthermore, Dirlewanger also has a very inflated ego. He desires to go down in history as a great conquerer, or a "better Alexander," and he hopes that his sadistic exploits will have him remembered as a boogeyman by the Russian people.
Trivia[]
- There are several possible death-events for Oskar Dirlewanger in-game written by the devs. They have all been uploaded to Imgur in the post "Dirlewanger's Death Events" in 2019.
