Papyrus is the villainous main protagonist of the Undertale AU: Dustbelief, owned by aude-javel.
He was originally flamboyant and egotistical, yet kind and cheerful. However, after failing to convince his brother, Sans to stop killing other monsters, Papyrus instead killed him in self-defense. He then realized that the eighth fallen human was the reason why his brother started killing. As a result, Papyrus vowed to finish Sans' goal and slaughter other monsters to become strong enough to kill the human permanently, slowly going insane in the process.
Biography[]
Papyrus was searching for Sans in Snowdin when he stumbled across the human. He did not know that they were a human, however, and asked if they had seen his brother. When they stay quiet, Papyrus decides to search elsewhere.
To his misfortune, Papyrus finds Sans, but sees that he is killing other monsters. Realizing that he was next on his brother's hit list, Papyrus tries to flee, only for Sans easily subdues him and ignores his pleas to be spared. Out of fear and desperation, Papyrus fights back and accidentally kills Sans by impaling him with various bones. As his older brother died in his arms, Papyrus breaks down and initially blamed himself for his death. However, he soon realized that the human he encountered earlier was solely responsible for Sans losing his mind. Feeling obligated to finish what his brother started, Papyrus starts his own killing spree to grow strong enough to finally put a stop to the human's massacres.
Personality[]
Papyrus used to be cranky, childish and egotistical. Under these circumstances a person would come off as mean, the same could not be said for Papyrus himself, as he was also a kind-hearted individual who saw the good in others. This changed after he killed his brother, as Papyrus then saw the truth behind Sans' intentions. Driven insane by his brother's demise and wanting revenge, Papyrus sought to kill other monsters in order to permanently kill the human.
Now a shell of his former self, Papyrus is a merciless killing machine who slaughters others with no remorse. However, he is far calmer, more mature and even more dedicated, as shown when he gets closer to his goal and does not make any quips or brags about himself. Despite this, he still retains some morals, as he greatly regrets killing his brother. Additionally, he broke down after killing Undyne and apologized to her before placing her dust in a jar. This shows that he is still honorable.
Papyrus is shown to be far more intelligent and mature than his original counterpart. He now understands how the game functions, as demonstrated with how he tries to kill the human in many brutal ways in order to get them to Reset. He also makes his puzzles more deadly, such as when he kills the human with a rockslide before they can enter the mountain to get to Hotland.
Appearance[]
Papyrus doesn't look as different as he does in Undertale other than the fact that his smile is more deranged and his left eye is orange while the other is blue. However, he has a different set of clothes: His scarf is now torn and he wears a brown jacket over his battle body. He is noticeably covered in dust.
Trivia[]
- Just like Sans in Dusttale, Papyrus hallucinates his dead brother to cope with his death.
- He seems to contain some sort of knowledge of the True Lab.
- The creator of the AU, aude-javel, stated that her reasoning for making the comic is because there are many AUs that focus on Sans and present him as "edgy", and so she wanted to give Papyrus the same treatment.
