Prince Charming Fortuna, better known as Prince Charming or simply Charming, is the titular main antagonist of the fanfiction called Shrek: The Revenge of Prince Charming. Much like his canon counterpart, he is an arrogant and opportunistic monarch who is the son of the Fairy Godmother. He also seeks to destroy Far Far Away to avenge the tragic death of his friend and mentor, Lord Farquaad. He is the arch-nemesis of Shrek and Artie.
Biography[]
Prince Charming is first introduced to the fanfiction by riding his horse to the castle where he and his mother live. He then rides a zipline and when he lands, he takes off his helmet and sees his mother in her room. However, the Fairy Godmother reveals that she murdered several knights out of annoyance. This horrifies Charming, and he calls his mother out on her actions, which leads to a brief argument between the two. Once the conflict is settled, Charming walks into the kitchen and cries out of disappointment. He then comes across a newspaper which revealed that Shrek killed Lord Farquaad (who is Charming's friend and mentor), which angers Charming to the point where he vowed to kill Shrek and take over Far Far Away by invading it. However, he actually planned to destroy the kingdom.
Before Prince Charming leaves the castle to commit several public atrocities, the Fairy Godmother asks him where he is going, but Charming didn't answer. He rides on his horse until he reaches a village filled with dozens of people. He then catches a woman's attention and asks her if she influenced Shrek's decision to murder Lord Farquaad. When the woman says that she is innocent, Charming killed her in cold blood. This caused the woman's two sons to break down crying, before Charming cruelly mocked their mourning and stated that "they can cry far louder than him". He then tried to kill the two brothers, but he thankfully failed.
In a house where he seems to be alone, Prince Charming bumps into Shrek and the latter threatens to break the former's legs. Charming then tries to kill Shrek, but Artie intervenes and tells him to stop. Charming orders the two boys to get out. He then leaves the house a few seconds later and breaks into a house filled with 10 people (one of which is a toddler). He suspiciously asked the people if they ordered Shrek to kill Lord Farquaad, and all of them deny, leading to Prince Charming killing everyone in the house. When three people enter the room, Charming kills all of them out of fear and he leaves the house in a hurry.
Prince Charming later arrives at a pub which is occupied by numerous villains. He comes up with an idea to have Captain Hook kill every unicorn in existence just to spite humanity, and Hook does what he is told to do. Later, Charming makes a public speech to the other villains by persuading them to help him invade and even destroy Far Far Away, endangering the lives of everyone in the kingdom. In order to stop Shrek from intervening, Charming locks him up in a room and prevents him from leaving.
Charming and his army of villains began invading Far Far Away. The villains wreak havoc all over the place by wrecking buildings, damaging property and killing a few civilians. Charming then taunts Shrek over witnessing his kingdom get ransacked as well as seeing some of his people die. Shrek gets a little mad at Charming and vows revenge. After the villains are done causing mayhem in the kingdom, Charming orders them to run to the castle so they can watch him kill Shrek. As a matter of fact, Prince Charming also planned to bring Shrek to the castle just to murder him in front of Princess Fiona out of sheer spite.
Before Charming can kill Shrek, Artie steps in and convinces the villains to give up on villainy and move on to benevolence. The villains agree to reform, but Charming refuses to take advantage of this opportunity. He grabs hold of his sword and makes an attempt to kill Artie, but Shrek uses a chain to grab Charming's sword to save Artie from his death. Charming then stabs Shrek and supposedly hurts him, much to everyone's horror. But Shrek reveals that he is absolutely fine and that Charming needs to work on his aim. As Shrek lifted him up, Charming snapped and claimed that he is the kingdom (which hints at narcissism), but Shrek swears that he will never give up his kingdom for something else, and when he lets go of Charming, the Dragon knocks over a tower which crushes Charming to death.
Later, Shrek and his friends celebrate the death of Prince Charming, and the latter is never seen or heard of again.
Personality[]
Prince Charming is a selfish and arrogant mother's boy who tries to look good. He's immature and childish as he quickly gets angry, especially when things don't go as he wanted.
He was also subservient to his mother. The personality change he underwent in the second half of the fanfiction could be because his mother died, so he had to grow up and become his own man. He learned from her how to use charisma to manipulate people.
He was also implied to have crush on Fiona, seeing how he wanted to marry her, but mostly for royal power by marriage. However, it is vaguely implied that he "forced himself onto Fiona", which could hint at rape or sexual assault.
After he made coup d'tet and became king, he wanted respect from his subjects and yelled at them for not respecting him. He was so blinded by desire of respect and power that he rejected the chance to get redeemed after Arthur convinced the other villains to get better.
