Prince Hans Westergaard is a minor antagonist from the "Disney Princesses but they're Villains" series of songs by Lydia the Bard.
He was a Prince of the Southern Isles who sought to usurp the throne of Arendelle for himself. He courted Princess Anna in a scheme to do this. However, when Anna's heart was frozen the dark magic corrupted her and when Hans revealed his plot, she was unimpressed and turned him to ice.
He is an adaptation of the character from the 2013 animated Disney film Frozen, serving as one of the two main antagonists (alongside Elsa) of Anna's villain song and animatic.
Biography[]
Hans of the Southern Isles was born the youngest of thirteen sons and was largely neglected by his family. He grew up without a chance to inherit his family's throne, which fostered a deep-seated ambition for power and a cynical outlook. Some of his brothers even pretended he was invisible for two years.
When he saw an opportunity at Arendelle's coronation, Hans concocted a scheme to marry into the monarchy and take the throne. He initially considered courting Queen Elsa, but found Princess Anna to be an easier target.
During his first visit to Arendelle, he wooed Anna, and they became engaged in a single day. When Elsa's ice powerswere revealed and she fled, Hans stepped up to act as a concerned and capable leader and took charge, distributing blankets and appearing to act in the best interests of the kingdom to win over the public. He led an expedition to find Elsa and, when they found her, he pretended to intervene to save her from the Duke of Weselton's men. When he found Anna, who had been accidentally struck in the heart by Elsa's ice magic, he revealed his true, villainous nature, telling her his plan to murder Elsa and seize the throne.
However, Anna (who has been corrupted by her frozen heart) is surprisingly not shocked like he had expected. Instead, she reveals that she figured it out, mocking him and telling him he is the "last push she needed." Hans attempts to stab and murder her, but Anna suddenly develops cryokenetic abilities of her own, freezing Hans alive. She is surprised by this, but knowing she now has the power to confront her sister, she begins making her way through the castle swearing revenge.
Personality[]
Prince Hans presents a perfectly cultivated, charming, and chivalrous facade that conceals a ruthless, power-hungry, and sociopathic nature. As a master manipulator and opportunist, he skillfully mirrors the desires and emotions of those around him, such as Anna's longing for connection, to gain their trust and admiration. His friendly and intelligent exterior is merely a calculated performance, fueled by a deeply rooted insecurity from being ignored as the youngest of thirteen brothers. However, this leads to his ultimate downfall as he never suspects that Anna is aware of his evil plans.
