~ Prince Leonos revealing his real nature |
Prince Gustavo Leonos is the secondary antagonist of Disney's Frozen franchise, serving as one of the two main antagonists (alongside The Duke of Weselton) of the series Frozen: Spiritual Haven and will return in the fanfilm Frozen 3: Stories Never Die
He is the prince of Weselton who at first befriended Queen Anna's daughter Matilda who was the current princess of Arendelle. At first seeming like a gentle and caring ally as well as Matlida's former love interest, he was actually planning with The Duke of Weselton since the beginning to lead Matilda on a fake quest which The Duke wrote on the scripture of all magic so Elsa will go looking for her, as eventually Prince Leonos would lead her to the dam of a river which it's magic is the source of all magic. Leonos and The Duke planned to destroy the dam so the water will wash Elsa away and kill her, and also cause chaos, which all this would lead to a universe with no magic. He is one of Matilda's archenemies along with The Duke of Weselton himself and Miss Scarface.
He was voiced by Bobby Moynihan.
History[]
Prince Leonos was a young prince from Weselton and the heir for the throne, who secretly despised magic as it stood in his way to glory and control over other people. Unknowingly to Weselton's ruler and his own superior King Thundergnome, he secretly plotted with The Duke to eliminate magic; The Duke of Weselton wrote a fake quest ontop of the scripture of all magic, made especially so Arrendelle's teen princess Matilda would abandon her home and go to the area of a river which it's water is the source of magic, still thinking she might "save the world". As part of the plan, Leonos would lead Elsa to the exact location of the dam, so Weselton's army will then break the dam and the water would smash Elsa and cause havoc and chaos, leading to a universe without any magic.
Leonos at first pretended to save Matilda from the ruthless mercenary Amadeus, just in order to gain her trust and lead her to the riverside where he wants her to be. He and Bianca travel with her to Weselton's castle, after they overcame Amadeus and Leona in the woods.
Prince Leonos was attacked in his castle by Leona Scarface and Amadeus once again. He told them that he would take care of them. Before they could do him any harm, Matilda and Bianca used magic powers to knock Gozem out. Amadeus then betrays Leona and tries to kill everyone around him. However, Amadeus was defeated and Leona told the others to leave while she will take care of Weselton with her two thugs. She also insists that Leonos should exit his castle and get out of his homeland for safety.
Leonos then traveled to the woods nearby the Rowu tribe. He pretended to show love with Matilda, as the two became a romantic couple in the middle of the woods. An ice mamba snake suddenly attacked and froze Matilda, until Leonos killed the snake, releasing the princess and once again saving her life and earning her affection. Bianca warned that Chief Kabuto from the tribe wants to imprison her for invasion. Chief Kabuto came and almost took care of the three protagonists, but then came his son and the heir to his throne Reyo who told him to be kind to them and let them stay for a while. Kabuto agreed but put an eye on them. Reyo fell in love with Matilda, who asked him not to tell about their romance to her current boyfriend, who was no other than Leonos. Leonos meanwhile stayed with Bianca in the little house, as suddenly, an explosion from outside the house was seen, and then Kabuto came into the house and told Leonos and Bianca that the tribe area is under attack and that Weselton's army are destroying everything. Amadeus then kills Chief Kabuto and takes Leonos and Bianca as his hostages. Leonos pretends to be a victimized captive, but when Amadeus is dead and his plans to frame Bianca for plotting "war plans" were successful as he expected, Leonos stayed with Matilda and revealed his true colors, causing Matilda to feel very hurt. Matilda runs off with Reyo and the two try to find a safe spot. However, they are both arrested by The Duke, while Leonos finds Elsa and Kristoff, and starts leading them to "the daughter of Anna", or in other words, the dam. Still pretending to lead Elsa and Kristoff to Matilda, he tells them he's going to check if they're safe, since Tucko tells them all it's a planned trap.
While he goes, he readies his soldiers with The Duke of Weselton arriving alongside more troops. Also, in that time, Matilda and her friends find Elsa and Kristoff, warning them that Leonos and The Duke of Weselton are behind everything and that they need to quickly run away to Arendelle. However, Leonos and his guards corner the heroes, until Matilda uses her phoenix powers of fire on the soldiers, killing them and leaving Leonos alone. Realizing he is going to lose if he doesn't retreat this time, Leonos tells the group that it's far from over and retreats. On his way home, he visits King Strictor and tells him that he wants a pact against Arendelle because they both hate Anna's kingdom the most.
The attacks on Arendelle begin as war rages. Leonos was on his ship, commanding the battle against Arendelle and Anna along with The Duke and King Strictor of Tegaru. He stays on the ship while The Duke and their forces do the dirty work. The Duke brings him a captive Matilda and he out of hunger for more power offers her to join him and rule the entire globe together with him. Matilda disagrees, and the angered Duke calls for his soldiers to fire at will on Arendelle's castle. However, Harrick caught a cannon ball and threw it back at Leonos' ship. After Strictor's death at the hands of The Duke of Weselton, the ship is destroyed by the cannonball which Harrick has reversed, and Leonos knocks Matilda out with his own sword just so he and The Duke could escape without her. However, both villainous aristocrats were defeated, as The Duke and Leonos didn't manage to escape arrest and avoid being at prison in Hans' cell. They both team up with Hans, as the Duke plans their escape and takes control of this new trio of evilness.
Personality[]
Prince Gustavo Leonos is a trash talking, arrogant and megalomaniacal tyrant, who not only abuses his power as the prince of a large kingdom, but he also plots to eliminate all magic with no exception, along with his partner The Duke of Weselton.
At first pretending to be a hearty, comfortable and good-mannered dignitary and Matilda's most trustworthy ally, he betrays her just after seemingly falling in love with her, and he reveals his true colors and his real intentions, which make him a brat and a sociopathic brute.
Unlike Prince Hans of The Southern Isles, he shows no tragedy or emotions beyond his ruthlessness and his pretentious attitude, and he plans genocide on all magic and magical beings including human sorcerers and witches/sorceresses. Leonos is also an incriminator, not caring that his victim Bianca Westeguard is a little girl barely in her teen age.
Trivia[]
- He is very similar and is based on Prince Hans from the original 2013 film. However, considering that he's going after a teenage princess, barely at the beginning of her own life, and the fact he wanted to destroy magic all over, he could be much worse than Hans.
- Leonos' name is based on Leon; a deleted villain from a draft of the same series before release.
