Queen Cynder Von Bohnenrotte is the main antagonist of the Wars of Frozen Flames series made by YouTuber, FreezeFlame22.

She is the sadistic and psychotic wife of King John Koopa VI, the King of the Koopa Kingdom during the late 15th century, and thus his Queen Consort. In contrast to John VI, Cynder is shown to be decisive, confident and quick to anger, and is very fond of executions, unlike her husband. As a result of their drastically different personalities, their marriage appears mostly loveless, as John VI is largely afraid of Cynder, while Cynder finds John VI to be cowardly and incapable of ruling the Koopa Kingdom. She greatly dislikes Lord Richard Koopa, viewing him as a threat to her husband's claim to the throne, often convincing her husband to keep Lord Richard away from governing the realm, and to appoint advisors loyal to her, such as Lord Sigmund Phoenix. She is based on Margaret of Anjou.

Backstory

Cynder was born in the Bohnenkraut Kingdom to Lord Rugar Von Bohnenrotte, the duke of Bohnenrotte, in the year 1450. While not much is known about her childhood, Cynder is implied to have had a negative relationship with her father throughout her life, as she describes him as "a bloody joke", implying Cynder had little love or respect for her father. At an unknown point in her life, probably sometime after she was married off to John, Lord Rugar was imprisoned in a foreign kingdom, causing his wife to assume power of the Duchy of Bohnenrotte. Cynder tells Sir Blayne Phoenix that her mother told her that it was her duty to make up for her father's failures, which would greatly influence Cynder's own actions later in life. Cynder states that she had a brother named Godwin, whom she named her son after and who she described as a "fearsome warrior", implying that Cynder admired him growing up. Cynder also talked about him in past tense, indicating that her brother died.

Marriage to John Koopa VI

In the year 1468, an arranged marriage between Lady Cynder and King John Koopa VI was issued by Lord Alfred de la Korde and Lord Rugar Von Bohnenrotte, in return for Lord Rugar supporting John VI's claim as King of the Bohnenkraut Kingdom. Prior to the meeting, Lord Rugar had told Cynder that she would be marrying "the bravest, most strongest, most fearsome warrior on the entire continent", so Cynder tried to make a good first impression on John and his subordinates. In spite of Cynder's best efforts, John began crying and proceeded to throw a tantrum upon seeing her as she wasn't the bride he wanted to marry, tearfully claiming that "[he] wanted the blonde one." The marriage took place anyway, and Cynder was crowned Queen Consort of the Koopa Kingdom. Much to Cynder's disappointment however, the marriage and her life as queen turned out to be a living nightmare; John VI would often ignore her due to his childish distaste for women, and whenever Cynder told him to fulfill his duties as king, John VI would start crying and tell her not to yell at him. Her father also heavily failed to support the Koopa Kingdom during the Hundred & Eight Years War, and this combined with John VI's childish personality, and often being blamed for failing to give birth to an heir to the throne, as the son that she had with John, Prince Edrick Koopa, only lived for three days, and overall being subjected to racism for being beanish, made her greatly unpopular with the people of the Koopa Kingdom. She showed them no love in return, and ultimately became a much crueller person and queen, wishing to rule the realm with an iron fist.

Her unhappy marriage to John caused Cynder to look for the love he never gave her in other men. It's implied Cynder seduced many men who were part of the Royal Cabinet. Among these men was Sir Blayne Phoenix, the son of Lord Sigmund Phoenix, whom she fell in love with and started a secret relationship with behind John's back. However, it's shown that Blayne really didn't care about Cynder as much as she cared about him, and merely used her for his and his father's personal gain, convincing her of having John make his father King's Claw following Lord De La Korde's death at the hands of Anarchists, thus avoiding punishment for deserting his troops and causing their deaths in battle, and appointing himself as Captain of Karhar City in the Bohnenkraut Kingdom.

The Feeble King

Part I

In the year 1475, numerous Anarchist Revolts of peasants had broken out in the Koopa Kingdom due to the realm being on the brink of belligerent and economical disaster, to which Cynder had suggested executing the Anarchists due to them having done the same to numerous other members of the nobility, which she later does in spite of King John promising them mercy. At that moment, Lord Richard Koopa, Duke of Sherbet Land, arrives at the castle and offers to take up the position of King's Claw following the murder of Lord Alfred De la Korde at the hands of anarchists, but Cynder tells him that they had already chosen Lord Sigmund to fulfill that position.

Later on Cynder and Blayne had shared an intimate moment together, from which she may have laid an egg in the middle of the night as a result. Cynder passed off the egg as her and John's child when in reality, Blayne was likely the father. To celebrate this, Cynder organised a Loveday feast to inform the various noble houses of the event, but mainly to mock Lord Richard over him no longer being the heir to the throne, which almost resulted in a deadly fight had it not being for a Parakarry informing the people attending about the loss of Oho Oasis to the Bohnenkraut Kingdom, which causes King John to suffer a mental breakdown and fall into a vegetative state.

Part II

After Lord Richard has Lord Sigmund imprisoned and takes on the role of regent until John recovers, Cynder is left to take care of her unhatched baby. It's then when she's informed by Sir Theodrick Solberg that Blayne had fled to Karhar city in the Bohnenkraut Kingdom, essentially abandoning her and their unborn child. Not wanting to be cast aside, Cynder seduces Theodrick in an attempt to maintain her power in the cabinet, but soon finds out that Thedorick is not as competent as Blayne in either political activities or satisfying her. Some days later, Cynder's child hatches from the egg. The child is a boy whom she decides to name Godwin, after her deceased brother whom she admired.

Once John recovers from his vegetative state, Cynder has him arrest Lord Richard and free Lord Sigmund from imprisonment, which John does, though Richard flees before being arrested.

Part III

Queen Cynder accompanies John VI in the cabinet meeting after the latter's coma. Cynder threatens to send Lord Berwick to the Black Tower if he has a problem with Sigmund. She then reminds John that he has an announcement to make, having him announce that the King's Claw position belongs to none other than Lord Sigmund Phoenix. Cynder then ridicule Torrence for complaining about Symon Blackfoot's sons being pardoned for their actions. When Torrence asks about Lord Richard's crimes, Cynder claims that he wrongfully imprisoned fellow noblemen and seized power for himself. When Berwick and Torrence leave the cabinet, Cynder comforts John and prides on the information that Richard's out of the way for good, only to be proven wrong when the Solberg brothers inform her that Lord Richard has escaped.

Cynder is then seen in her bed chamber, accompanying her son Godwin. She is then visited by Blayne, who she slaps for disappearing for an entire year and leaving her with no allies at court. She then reminds Blayne that she is the one who convinced her husband to appoint his father as King's Claw and the one that gave Blayne command of Karhar City. Blayne then claims he has given Cynder more than John ever given her, remarking if the rumors are true, only for Cynder to slap him and claim that Prince Godwin is her trueborn son and the heir to the Koopa Throne. She then threatens to have Blayne's head on a spike. Blayne apologises, pleading that he was looking out for his brothers and claiming that he thought of Cynder every single night, to which she responds with a forgiveness and makes him promise that he'll never abandon her again.

Cynder then hosts the great council meeting along with Sigmund and King John. Ronan asks the Solberg brothers if the King wasn't with them whilst they were trying to arrest Lord Richard and Cynder says that he stayed with them for his own safety. When Ironside, suggests to allow Richard to return to the Kingdom and reappoint him as King's Claw, Cynder reminds him that they already have a King's Claw. When Rodrick agrees with Tyebolt's point of offering Richard a position on the council, adding that they want to avoid going to war, Cynder says they'd have succeeded in avoiding the war if he and his brothers did their job. When Sigmund demands John to join the battlefield, Cynder supports Sigmund, claiming that John wants to protect her and his son. When John asks what if he gets killed, Cynder yells that Kings have before died in battles and rhetorically asks if he thinks any of them cried about it.

Cynder is present when John is getting prepared to get onto the battlefield whilst she carries Godwin, babytalking him on how his father looks so handsome and strong in his armor and how he's going to cut down so many traitors. When Lord Garnet arrives with his half-brothers, Cynder reminds him that they're going to war. When Garnet claims to support his King, Cynder recalls that he entered a marriage alliance with Lord Richard. Garnet then presents a gift to prove his loyalty, with Cynder awaiting, and that being Richard's daughter Lady Anna being held captive. Cynder later keeps Anna as a slave, getting her to pour wine for her. She then asks her what she thinks of Lord Garnet and guesses that she's not very fond of him. Anna then says she isn't, with Cynder saying she can't say she can't relate and says it's such a shame of Lord Richard to waste such a pretty face on such a vile man. Cynder then threatens to take Anna's father's head if he does anything to her husband. The battle is won by the Sherbet Forces, with King John being captured and Lord Sigmund being executed, and thus Cynder is forced to release Tobias, Rickon and Anna from their imprisonment.

Part IV

Following the victory of the Sherbet forces during the Battle of Whomp City, Lord Richard Koopa and his supporters demands for his position of King's Claw to be given back, as well as his three children, Tobias, Rickon and Anna, to be freed from the imprisonment Queen Cynder Von Bohnenrotte put them under, to which King John Koopa VI accepts, much to the Queen's frustration.

One year later, in the year 1478, Lord Richard sits as the King's Claw once again, attending a Royal Cabinet meeting filled with hostility between both Kayenne and Sherbet supporters, mainly as a result of the men that lost their lives during the battle, especially from the Kayenne side. In an attempt to keep things under control, the Duke of Sherbet Land congratulates the King and Queen on the birth of their daughter, Princess Cyndie Koopa, though Lord Agron Ironside is quick to note that the baby, just like her elder brother Prince Godwin, takes more after her mother than her father, and has an unusually large nose for a girl.

Elsewhere in the castle, Lord Richard reaches out to Queen Cynder, wishing to speak to her in private. After getting some caretakers to look after Godwin and Cyndie, Cynder has a conversation with Richard. The conversation starts nicely, with Cynder opening up to Richard about her and John's first child, Edrick, who only lived for three days after he was born, causing Richard to sympathize with the Queen, as he himself and Tulisa were devastated when their first two sons after Olivia died in infancy. However the mood of the conversation quickly shifts when Richard proposes to Cynder that she hands Godwin over to him so that he can raise him on Sherbet Land and teach him how to rule a realm properly, as well as to set up a marriage between him and Richard's youngest daughter Ursula. Cynder refuses the offer, believing that Richard is trying to take her son away from her, and possibly hurt him. Richard tries to convince the Queen that she is completely wrong, but she refuses to listen to him. After a brief argument, Lord Blayne walks in, causing the Queen to dismiss the Duke of Sherbet Land, who proceeds to leave. Cynder explains to Blayne that she believes that Richard is trying to take Godwin away so he can kill him and take the throne for himself. Being convinced that John VI wouldn't do anything about the situation, Cynder starts to look for allies to put her plan into action: move the court from Bright Valley to Kayenne Kragg, as the Valley is full of Sherbet sympathizers and supporters. Blayne is sceptic of the plan, but Cynder assures her that they'll find enough supporters for their cause, and she starts by getting Lord Erik Bane to join it. Cynder and Blayne convince Erik that if they work together, Erik will get his revenge on Lord Richard, who personally killed his father, Lord Herard Bane, at the Battle of Whomp City. The offer convinces Erik, who is told to gather his men and depart for Kayenne Kragg the following day's morning.

Later that night, King John VI is telling his children the tale of one of King Baron Koopa's many battles. Once he is done, Cynder convinces John to move the court to Kayenne Kragg, land of John's ancestors. John is hesitant at first, but Cynder convinces him by telling him that Richard and his supporters will try and get rid of him to take his throne, comparing Richard to Prince Joseph Koopa. John is convinced by Cynder to move the court to Kayenne Kragg, though Cynder's satisfaction for her plans working is soon replaced by anger, born out of John being unable to return her affection.

At the Kayenne Castle, the King and the Queen start a council meeting with their most loyal supporters. At the meeting King John VI has Lord Richard Koopa and all of those who fought for him at Whomp City to be a traitor to the realm. Rodrick tries to convince the King that doing this is far from being a good idea, but everyone else at the meeting is on board with it, with Queen Cynder letting Rodrick know that Richard tried to take Godwin away from her. Rodrick however isn't convinced, and actively argues against the idea, even almost getting into a fight with Lord Erik Bane over their different perspectives. While almost everyone wishes for Richard's death, Lord Ironside suggests a more merciful punishment to avoid outrage in Sherbet Land.

At Kayenne Castle, Cynder enters her private chambers, only to find Lord Ironside waiting for her with some wine and cake. As a way to gain Cynder's trusts, he informs her of Lord Richard marching to Skyland and Lord Berwick travelling to Karhar City, letting her know that Lord Richard is looking to marry Halbert and Robert to the daughters of the dukes of Sturmwolk and Burgunderbohne respectively as a way to gain alliances and men. Cynder thanks Lord Ironside for the information that he shared with her, and as a reward, promises to make his brother commander of the Valley Watchmen.

The next morning, after Richard's forces have left Lord Sturmwolk's castle after making a marriage pact with him and are making their way towards Butter Bridge to go back to Sherbet Land. Much to their surprise however, at the bridge they spot the Kayenne forces, being commanded by King John Koopa VI and Queen Cynder Von Bohnenrotte. When confronted by the Kayenne forces, Lord Richard is told that he and his men are to come to Kayenne Kragg to answer for their crimes, more specifically, raising arms against the King at the Battle of Whomp City and causing the deaths of many loyalists, as well as making foreign alliances without the King's consent. Before a conflict can escalate, King John VI commands everyone to stop, and sentences Lord Richard Koopa, as well as all of his supporters, to ten years in exile.

Part V

It has been three years since Lord Richard Koopa, as well as his family and allies, were exiled from the Koopa Kingdom for a period of ten years, with Lord Richard, his wife Tulisa, and three of his children Halbert, Rickon and Ursula, seeking refuge in the region of Shiveria in the Frosted Kingdom while his most trusted ally, Lord Berwick Python seeks it in Karhar City in the Bohnenkraut Kingdom, alongside his wife Winona, his daughters Lily and Rose, his brothers Torrence and Jorgon, two of Richard's sons, Robert and Tobias, as well as several other allies. In the absence of her enemies, Queen Cynder Von Bohnenrotte rules the Koopa Kingdom through her husband King John Koopa VI, aided by her many allies and supporters, but unbeknownst to them, Lord Berwick is plotting to invade the Koopa Kingdom.

At the castle in Kayenne Kragg, where the court has been located since 1478, a Royal Cabinet meeting is held, with King John VI revealing that he and Cynder had another child, a boy to be more precise. Cynder is congratulated on the birth of her new son, whom they plan on naming Rupert, while Rodrick (who has been named King's Claw in light of Richard's exile) and Theodrick seems nervous at this announcement, knowing that John is not the boy's father. Lord Russet then interrupts the Queen, telling her that there are more important matters to be discussed, to which Lord Birchard Python explains that Lord Berwick's men have been invading his castles from overseas, though Lord Russet shuts this complain down to inform the King and Queen of an on-going revolt in Koopa Kingsland, with the common folk of the kingdom demanding for government reforms, as well as the return of Lord Richard Koopa, and later on adds that there are riots occurring elsewhere in the Kingdom, with the mention of Waterlog Marsh and its Earl, Lord Raymund Kassimeer, catching the attention of Lord Gerald Garnet, who was released from the Black Tower following Lord Richard being sent to exile. Garnet claims that there is a possibility that Kassimeer might be plotting alongside Lord Richard, being backed up by Lord Alain Blackfoot and Lord Agron Ironside, the former bringing up the fact that Kassimeer raised Richard after he lost his parents at a young age, and the latter mentioning that his claim to the throne has always made him a threat. These claims cause Cynder to give Lord Garnet permission to travel to Waterlog Marsh and conduct an investigation against Lord Kassimeer. After the matter of Lord Kassimeer is dealt with, Rodrick informs Lord Blayne Phoenix that Lord Berwick Python still holds control over Karhar city, and that Blayne shall be sent there with an army to take back its control. Blayne protests at this, but Rodrick says that its his duty as the true Captain of Karhar City, to which Blayne reluctantly agrees.

Later that day at the Kayenne Castle, King John VI guides Rodrick and Theodrick through a secret passageway, soon revealing a secret room where four of the Seven Sacred Stars are being stored, kept away from mortal eyes. John explains to his half-brothers that his grandfather, King John Koopa IV, moved them to the Kayenne Castle after taking the throne, believing they would be much safer there than in Bright Valley. Theodrick asks John if he can take them, a request the King angrily denies, explaining that his uncle Josephtold him that the Stars should never, under any circumstance, fall onto the wrong hands, and that they must remain at the secret chamber. When asked by Rodrick on why he is telling them about something as serious as this, John says that, as his brothers, he trusts him and Theodrick more than anyone else in the Kingdom, stating that he would have also liked to tell Edrick, but never got the chance to due to him dying, and that as much as he loves Cynder, he cannot trust her with the Stars, believing that she would use them for her own personal gain. The three brothers then proceed to leave, promising they won't discuss the affair with anyone except for Prince Godwin once he comes of age.

Back at the Kayenne Castle, Rodrick and Theodrick have both Godwin and James practice archery together. Godwin accidentally hits a mug of beer instead of the target, causing James to tell him to aim better next time. The prince however takes this as an insult, prompting Rodrick to tell James to apologize to Godwin, (in spite of Godwin having made an even ruder comment about James). After the brief confrontation, James successfully hits the target with his arrow, which impresses Rodrick, Theodrick and King John, who was watching them practice. Queen Cynder complains about James' presence at the Kayenne Castle, to which John rebuttals by saying that as his nephew James has as much right as other royal children to be at Court. In that moment, Lord Gerald Garnet arrives at the castle alongside his wife Lady Anna Koopa and their three-year-old daughter Cynder, named after Queen Cynder, and greets the monarchs. John apologizes to Anna for what happened with her father Richard, though Anna, clearly being forced to by Garnet, tells John that it doesn't matter, and that her father "is a traitor and has a terrible beard". John, being none of the wiser, congratulates the couple for their supposed happiness. Soon after their conversation with Lord Garnet is over, a newly wed couple consisting of Sir Kyllian Byrn and Lady Joanna Tyebolt approach John and Cynder. Kyllian introduces himself to the Queen, stating that his brother, Lord Krayden Byrn, is the Earl of Pyre Park, and subsequently gifts John a copy of The Book of Alfred, and Cynder a gold cup that was owned by Queen Vanessa Von Lachlagune of the Bohnenkraut Kingdom (with John dismissing Lord Russet informing him of Lord Redstone being captured by rebel forces). Cynder is impressed on Joanna being so knowledgeable in History, with Kyllian mentioning that Joanna used to be "quite scandalous", but that he changed her ways for the better. Being impressed at the pair, Cynder suggests that Kyllian shows up at court more often, an offer which Kyllian delightfully accepts. Rodrick and Theodrick, who had listened to the two couples' conversation, are distrustful of Kyllian, with Theodrick in particular threatening to become aggressive with him, though Rodrick tells him to not do anything reckless. Just in that moment, the duo is pleasantly pleased upon seeing that Lady Jane Phoenix and Sir Korrin Sylver have arrived at the castle to visit James. Cynder however, isn't happy to see Jane and Korrin at the Kayenne Castle, stating that they should be back at Bright Valley taking care of Silverhorn Castle, though Rodrick tells the Queen that he gave them permission to come, with Jane telling Cynder that she doesn't need her permission to visit her son. Cynder then tries to get John to kick Jane and Korrin out of the castle, though John doesn't see anything wrong with them visiting, causing Cynder to storm off in frustration.

In Waterlog Marsh, Lord Gerald Garnet and Lord Alain Blackfoot command their men to pillage the entire land, ransacking the town, murdering the peasants, taking the women hostage, and destroying everything they come across with. Garnet, alongside Sirs Hayez and Sigard Blackfoot, knock at Lord Kassimeer's castle, who politely greets them. Lord Garnet informs the elderly Earl of Waterlog Marsh that they have come on behalf of King John and Queen Cynder, as they suspect him of treason. After getting physical with Lord Kassimeer, Sigard tells him that the suspicion rose as a result of the anarchy and the revolts in favor of Lord Richard going on at the Kingdom and his inaction in regards to it, though Kassimeer defends himself by saying that Richard had nothing to do with it, and that they haven't had contact in three years due to his exile, and that he himself has remained nothing but loyal to the crown. Kassimeer finishes by saying that his nephew is a good man, and would make a better King than any of them could ever aspire to be. This statement is enough for Garnet to order Sigard and Hayez to seize Kassimeer, after which he orders his troops to burn down Kassimeer's castle by claiming that Queen Cynder ordered so.

At the castle in Kayenne Kragg, Queen Cynder is relaxing in her personal room, only to be interrupted by a knight who intends to inform her about something. Cynder assumes that Lord Berwick has perished in battle, but instead she is told that King John was captured by Lord Berwick and his men at the Battle of Riverside Park, and after hearing this, Cynder returns to her personal room and begins shattering things in frustration.

Part VI

The episode takes place several months following the victory of the Sherbet forces supporting Lord Richard Koopain the battle of Riverside Park, with Lord Richard attempting to seize the Koopa Throne following the brutal execution of his uncle Lord Raymund Kassimeer. In light of the threat to her son's claim to the throne, Queen Cynder assumes control of the Kayenne forces and leads an army against the Duke of Sherbet Land to try and put and end to his plans as well as freeing King John Koopa VI from his captivity.

Elsewhere in the castle, Rodrick has informed Queen Cynder and her allies of the council's proposal to disinherit Godwin as John's heir to the throne in favour of Richard, which makes her furious. Cynder asks Rodrick if he did not fight for Godwin's claim to the throne, to which Rodrick answers that he did everything he could to stop them, but this only gets him verbally abused of his failures during the Battle of Riverside Park by Lord Goldwood, with Cynder further stating that it is his fault that John's life is at risk, and when Rodrick tries assure her that Berwick promised no harm would come to John, Sir Kyllian Byrn rebuttals by saying that Berwick also promised loyalty and he ended up rebelling once again. Lord Alain Blackfoot states that Lord Richard must not ascend the Koopa Throne, calling him a traitor to the realm, and Lord Goldwood further adds that as long as Cynder's children live, they remain a threat to Richard's claim to the throne. While Rodrick keeps trying to assure Cynder that Richard is an honorable man who would not harm her children, Cynder herself scoffs at his words, saying that Richard stole her husband's throne and imprisoned him in the Black Tower, and Alain and Lord Tyson Kolfax each say that Richard would definitely be aided by the Pyhtons, who seized Bright Valley and killed Lord Sylver at Riverside Park, as well as the latter's father in the Black Tower. Lord Gerald Garnet, who until that point had remained silent, supports Cynder's claim about how Lord Richard wouldn't allow her children to live, and while Theodrick suggests smuggling them out of the Kingdom to live as shepherds, Cynder scoffs at this idea. The group then starts discussing the other people taken prisoner following the Battle of Riverside Park, Garnet and Goldwood mention that Lady Anna Koopa, who is imprisoned in the Black Tower, may be behind Sir Siebold's death, with Garnet sadistically suggesting sending her her father's head, only for Cynder to shoot down the idea, clearly displeased with Garnet's constant torment of Anna. Cynder on her part affirms to her allies that she will be raising an army and taking back her husband, putting herself as the commander. She also coldly dismisses Rodrick of his duties for his failures at Riverside Park.

Back at the Koopa Castle, Lord Richard is admiring the throne when Lord Ironside enters the room and engages in a conversation with him. Ironside asks Richard if he had been waiting to ascend the throne for a long time, but the Duke of Sherbet Land replies that he did not want to do such thing, stating that he is not like his father who committed treason against King John Koopa V. Richard goes on to explain that for what he heard of his father, he coveted the throne for years and believed himself to be a far better ruler than John Koopa V, that he married Richard's mother, Lady Anna Kassimeer, to strengthen his claim to the throne, and that he allied himself with what Richard describes as "schemers" and "opportunists" to seize the Koopa Throne, but that he failed and was executed for it. When Richard is done with his explanation, Ironside highlights how he is much closer to sitting on throne than his father ever was, and asks him if it was worth it, to which the Duke of Sherbet Land replies that no matter what happens, the Koopa Throne must not fall into the wrong claws. In that moment however, Richard's wife Lady Tulisa Python enters the room, and asks to speak to Richard in private. Once Ironside has left, Richard is shocked to see her at the Koopa Kingdom, as she was meant to remain at the Frosted Kingdom until the end of the War, but Tulisa questions her husband on his actions regarding his attempted seizure of the Koopa Throne, stating that for years he had been encouraged to take the Koopa Throne yet he remained loyal to John Koopa VI only for now to put aside his loyalty. Richard defends himself by reinforcing that Kingship is his birthright, as well as that of their children, and that they need to save the Kingdom from further instability, but to this Tulisa points out that if Queen Cynder sees their children as a threat to Prince Godwin's claim, she will have them executed, to which Richard tells her that that is precisely why they cannot allow the throne to be passed on to any of her children. Richard then holds his wife's hand and reassures her that while she and their children are the most important things for him in the world, he cannot allow John to destroy the Koopa lineage by having the throne pass down to Prince Godwin, and to make her more comfortable, gently teases her with her dreams of having wanted to be Queen, which amuses Tulisa. Richard also tells his wife that he has no doubt that Queen Cynder will be raising an army against him from the Kragglands, and promises Tulisa that all will be at peace once her forces are taken care of. To this, Tulisa only asks her husband to not do anything stupid, which has him reply that justice will fall on all those who deserve it, and the two proceed to kiss.

In the the Kayenne Castle, Cynder is relaxing in her private room when her son Godwin comes in complaining to her. Cynder tells Godwin that she has heard that he got into a fight with the Earl of Susshell, with Godwin having punched him in the nose, to which Godwin tells his mother that it was because the Earl of Susshell said that John was not his father. Cynder thus tells her son that the Earl of Susshell will be questioned so they can find out from where he learned the rumors, affirming Godwin that the Earl of Susshell is just a child and that he shouldn't let words affect him, but that there are bigger enemies to be dealt with, telling Godwin about how Lord Richard captured John and is intending to become his heir. Godwin then angrily demands that Lord Richard is put to death, but his mother tells him that as Richard is a prince of the royal Koopa bloodline, having him executed would only unite the entire Koopa Kingdom against the Kayennists. Godwin however angrily and rudely dismisses his mother's words, and simply tells her to prepare him dinner before leaving the room. After Godwin has left, a Knight Bro. enters the room and informs Cynder that Lord Blayne Phoenix has returned to the Koopa Kingdom, to which the Queen tells the knight to arrange a council meeting for the following day's afternoon.

The next day at Kayenne Kragg, Alain alongside Hayez, Sigard and Sanderling receive Lord Blayne Phoenix and Lord Erik Bane, who come accompanied by Bohnengundrian mercenaries courtesy of Lord Lothan Von Bohnengunder, upon their arrival. Alain informs Blayne and Erik of the situation regarding Lord Richard, and the men all proceed to march to the Kayenne Castle.

In the halls of the Kayenne Castle, Jane discovers one of the secret passageways that Lord Ironside had told her about, and walks along it until she discovers a small hole connecting to the castle's council room, where a meeting is taking place. Queen Cynder explains the the situation regarding Lord Richard, King John Koopa VI and Bright Valley to her allies, to which Blayne tells her that they count with two thousand men and two hundred sellswords from Lord Lothar, as well as Erik. Cynder however is not impressed at these numbers, stating that Richard has the forces of the Sherbetlands, Wetlands and Skylands on his side. Blayne however continues to reaffirm the quality of his men, but he is only mocked by Lord Goldwood, who compares him to his father Sigmund who hid away in a tavern while a battle was taking place. Cynder cuts off their argument, telling her allies to focus on making a plan to get her husband back, and after dismissing an ineffective suggestion from Theodrick, Trystan Blackfoot suggests that, seeing as how most of Richard's men traveled south to join Berwick's forces at Riverside Park, they are all in Bright Valley, thus leaving Sherbet Land without any notable protection, and that they should take over it. Cynder approves of the idea, with Blayne adding that once Richard realizes that his castle has fallen, he is likely to head back to Sherbet Land to try and retake it, and therefore falling for their trap. Lord Krayden Byrn however intervenes by saying that marching for the Sherbetlands might not be as easy as it sounds, as it is protected by Dimble Wood, which is said to be dangerous to travel during the time of year they are in. Blayne however affirms that it is the perfect place to set up a camp, which Cynder agrees to, telling her men to travel to Dimble Wood and seize every stronghold there in order to lure Lord Richard in. Garnet yet again compares Blayne to his cowardly father, which causes Blayne to lose his patience and yell at the attendees of the meeting, which in turn causes Cynder to dismiss Blayne. After Blayne leaves, the Queen turns her attention to Theodrick, whose family commands the largest force in the Grasslands, but Theodrick tells her that it is between the Solbergs and the Buckshaws, the latter of whom are staunch supporters of Lord Richard Koopa as told by Krayden. Cynder thus tells Theodrick and Krayden to raise an army in the Grasslands and occupy it. Theodrick however is doubtful about this, telling the Queen that he is more of a soldier than a commander, but Cynder dismisses these claims, telling Theodrick that if he truly cares about John Koopa VI, his half-brother, he has to accept the task. Krayden's brother Kyllian further adds that just because Rodrick, whom he refers to as a failure, failed to protect John, that doesn't mean he has to as well, something which angers Jane from her hiding spot. Cynder then orders Theodrick and Krayden to march to the Mushroom Meadows the following day's morning, adding that she is sure that Theodrick's nephew, James, will be happy to see him again. The mention of James startles Jane, who audibly gasps and causes her to run away from the passageway before she is discovered.

Back at the Kayenne Castle, Rodrick, who looks very unkempt and visibly saddened, is found drinking inside a room. Jane then enters the room and tells Rodrick that she needs to speak to him, only to the notice a packed bag on the bed, to which Rodrick tells her that Queen Cynder has dismissed him of his loyal duties due to his failures and that he is no longer welcome at court nor the Koopa Kingdom. Rodrick then calls himself a disgrace, to which Jane tells him that it is not his fault that they lost the battle, as they were overwhelmed and not even Lord Sylver was able to protect John from Berwick's forces. Rodrick however tells Jane that he feels fully responsible for failing to protect his own brother, and that the first chance he gets it he will take a ship to the Seaside Kingdom. Jane pleads Rodrick not to leave, and tells him that she needs him to smuggle James out of Mushroom Meadows, fearing that the Sherbetans will try to kill James if they take the castle where he is staying at due to his status as John's nephew. While Rodrick tries to assure Jane that his uncle Orwin will protect James, Jane still pleads him to help her, claiming that she cannot bear the thought of potentially losing James. Rodrick then gives in to Jane's pleas and agrees to take James to safety, promising to protect him with all his life, and further adds that Jane's happiness means the world to him, referring to his secret feelings for her. Jane then gives Rodrick a present to remember her by; a flower that appears to be crossbreed between a Fire and an Ice Flower. Rodrick thanks Jane for the present and promises her than when the war is over, he will return with James. Jane then tells Rodrick to be careful on the road, and kisses him on the cheek. Rodrick proceeds to leave the room and the Kayenne Castle itself.

Elsewhere at the top of one of the Kayenne castle's towers, Cynder is by herself drinking wine when she hears Blayne attempting to flirt with her. Cynder however slaps Blayne for his outburst at the council meeting the day prior, and Blayne tells her that he is fed up of people not taking him seriously and believing him to be just as cowardly and ineffective as his father was. Cynder tells Blayne that one doesn't earn respect by asking for it but rather by working for it, telling him that when her father was captured by the Count of Rottestein, her mother did not cry about her feelings, but rather raised an army, cut off the count's head, and earned the right to rule the Duchy of Bohnenrotte from the Holy Rural Emperor, further telling Blayne that no one sees any reason to respect him when has yet to win a single battle. Blayne answers Cynder by telling her that he has been training, and that he plans to prove himself when he is on battle with Lord Richard, as well as the fact that he has done a lot for her yet is rewarded with nothing but disdain, but to this Cynder tells him that she has no guarantee that he will not abandon his forces like his father did in Whomp City. In that moment, a knock on the door is heard, with Cynder telling Blayne that she is expecting Kyllian to join her to discuss politics, like she and Blayne used to do in the past. Blayne then proceeds to take his leave, but before he can do so, Cynder stops him and asks him if he loves her, to which Blayne replies yes, causing Cynder to tell him that if he wishes to prove himself to her, he won't fail her. Blayne leaves the tower's rooftop and comes across Kyllian, grabs him by the neck and angrily tells Kyllian that he better treat Cynder with respect, after which he leaves the scene, to which Kyllian simply scoffs at.

Elsewhere inside the fortress, Lord Richard is planning his army's strategy for the upcoming battle against Queen Cynder's men. Lord Thornton enters the room and comments on the the gloomy location that Dimble Wood is, with Richard responding that as the gateway to Sherbet Land, they cannot allow her army to make it past the forest. Richard then explains that his plan consists in remaining in the fortress until back-up arrives, stating that he has already requested Berwick for reinforcements. Thornton however questions whether their men will have enough supplies to last through the winter, with Richard answering that while that may be true, he fears that Cynder's army may be stronger than anticipated, and that they are going to need the numbers to ensure victory. Thornton on his part states that he has dispatched a message to Thornhill Castle, and says that one of his top captains is bringing a thousand men to aid in their cause, but also says that there is someone else who might be interested in joining the Sherbet forces; Lord Birchard Python. Richard is unsure of the proposal, as Birchard deeply hates his half-relatives, who are some of Richard's strongest supporters, due to them receiving what he considers to be his deserved inheritance, but Thornton tells the Duke of Sherbet Land that Birchard and his men left the Battle of Riverside Park, and that the Koopa throne has done no favours to him, so if they can get him on their side, they may have enough strength in numbers to crush the Queen's army. Richard then accepts the proposal and orders for a messenger to be sent to the Waterlands to negotiate with Birchard, and apologizes to Thornton for not being willing to trust him when they first met, to which Thornton thanks Richard, saying that he always knew that if they each got to know each other, they would become good friends.

Later on, after the Battle Of Dimble Wood, resulting in the death of Lord Richard and many of his supporters thanks to Lord Birchard Python and Lord Gaston Thornton, At the Sherbet Castle, which has fallen to the Kayenne forces, Queen Cynder congratulates Birchard and Thornton for their role in crushing the Sherbetan army at Dimble Wood, rewarding Birchard by restoring his properties of Riverbank Castle, Seafoam Palace, and Clearwater Chateau, as well as giving him the title of Warden of the Waterlands and letting him marry the bride of House Phoenix of his choice, and granting Thornton the Earldom of Painted Pipleand and all of its lands and incomes. Both men thank the Queen for the rewards and proceed to take their leave. Cynder then congratulates Blayne, Alain, Goldwood and Sanderling on their job defeating Lord Richard, and subsequently asks them to bring him over to her, assuming that her men had captured him. Sanderling however reveals to Cynder that they beheaded Richard after capturing him. This revelation greatly horrifies and angers Cynder, who berates the men for killing Richard. Blayne tries to defend himself by saying that Richard was a traitor and killed his father, to which Cynder tells him that Richard was the most valuable hostage they had, and with him dead his supporters are going to rally behind his son and heir Robert. Cynder goes on to explain to Blayne and his men how they ruined her plans by killing Richard, since she just lost the opportunity to negotiate with the Sherbetans for John's freedom and the restoration of Godwin as his heir. Blayne however dismisses Cynder's words and affirms that he just wanted revenge against Richard, only for Cynder to tell him that his desire for revenge may have very well costed her son his claim to the throne. Goldwood intervenes and tells Cynder that they still have a chance to get John back, telling her that should they defeat Robert in battle, they still might be able to persuade him into handing John over, but Alain tells Goldwood not to underestimate Robert, as although he may be young he has never been defeated in battle before. Cynder however cusses at and dismisses her allies. Once they have left, Cynder screams to herself in rage and frustration, her plans to ensure Godwin's ascension to the throne being completely ruined by Blayne. When Godwin enters the room complaining to her mother about the low temperatures, she tells him to fetch his armor, and that they are going to war, a prospect which excites Godwin.

Appearance

She is a Koopa with lime skin, red hair, a lime green head, red eyebrows, brown eyes, and a pale green snout and mouth with red lips. She has scaly, lime green skin, sharp red claws on her hands and a small tail. She wears golden jewellery around her wrists and one of her legs, as well as a golden necklace with a green jewel on it, a tiara on her head and red high heels, and a spiked, scaly red shell with a white casing and lime green rings around the spikes.

Personality

Queen Cynder is an imposing woman with a short temper. She has zero patience, she is rude to everyone, and has no qualms about getting her hands dirty with blood if it means it will make her problems go away.

She is shown to be the complete polar opposite of John, being mature, confident and rude, especially to Lord Richard Koopa & Lady Jane Phoenix. She is portrayed as a cruel and ambitious woman who desires power more than anything, and who often results to bloodshed to solve her problems.

Queen Cynder is also shown to be an incredibly sadistic, vicious, spiteful, egotistical & power-hungry woman. There are many examples of this, such as taking absolute joy in seeing executions in Part I, as well as hitting Lord Blayne Phoenix on not one, not two but three occasions. When John revealed 4 of the 7 sacred stars to Rodrick and Theodrick, the latter asks John why he hasn’t revealed them to Cynder, John says he feels Cynder will just use them to get what she wants, showing her power-hungry side. Cynder has shown that what she wants the most is to remain under power and get what she wants, hinting at a level of narcissism. There are many examples of this, with the biggest one being when she takes the opportunity to have Lord Richard removed as regent and arrested as soon as John recovers from his vegetable state, even going as far as to have two of his sons arrested and gladly taking his daughter as a personal slave when offered to, even though all 3 of them did nothing to her.

Her sadistic side is also shown in Part I when it is revealed to Lady Jane that her son, James will become a ward of the crown and therefore, she won’t see him again and when Lady Jane starts to break down, Cynder was shown sadistically and psychopathically smiling, enjoying every second of it and even called her a bitch when Jane yelled at Lord Sigmund for reminding her of her father’s death.

Another trait of Cynder is that she is extremely unfaithful to John and sexually promiscuous, cheating on him with lots of men such as John’s closest cousin, Lord Blayne Phoenix, John’s half-brother Sir Theodrick Solberg and Sir Kyllian Byrn, with him being married.

Cynder is also prone to violent tantrums when things don’t go her way, Part V shows this twice when a knight who intends to inform her about something and she is told that King John was captured by Lord Berwick and his men at the Battle of Riverside Park, and after hearing this, Cynder returns to her personal room and begins shattering things in frustration and also when King John doesn’t see anything wrong in Lady Jane Phoenix coming to the castle, Cynder runs off in a huff which proves she can be just as childish as John at times, wether she realises it or not.

Cynder has a heated rivalry with Lord Richard Koopa, hating his guts and even manipulating John to choose Lord Sigmund Phoenix who was a complete idiot, traded Teehee Fortress for a bucket, abandoning his troops in a cowardly and pathetic attempt to save himself in The Nordskal Ridge Campaign and enriching himself of the realm’s expense over Lord Richard who has been serving the Koopa Kingdom and the Frosted Kingdom, Cynder even acknowledges that Sigmund was useless, meaning she wanted Sigmund as the Claw just to keep Richard out of the picture. It’s because of this, Cynder is basically responsible for The Wars Of Frozen Flames and the falling out between John and Richard.

Underneath all that cruelty and sadism however, Cynder is shown to actually be really an incredibly lonely, depressed & insecure woman. This is a combination of many things, with the most prominent one being her loveless marriage to John VI due to him being cowardly and childish as a result of him suffering from "Bohnenkraut Madness" and the fact that he finds women disgusting and would often ignore her, even when she was actually trying to be nice to him. She's also subjected to racism due to her being from the Bohnenkraut Kingdom and was often blamed for not producing an heir to the throne when it was actually due to John refusing to have sex with her.

Cynder is shown looking for the love and the attention John never gave her in other men, which leads to her affairs with Sir Blayne Phoenix, Sir Theodrick Solberg and Sir Kyllian Byrn. It's also implied that Cynder is jealous of women like Lady Jane and Lady Tulisa due to them being married with a man who respects them, and that's the reason why she often mistreats them, especially Jane.

There are also things in the series that show Cynder does have some good in that near black heart of darkness, such as, despite despising her father, feeling sorry for Lady Anna Garnet when her husband, Lord Garnet abuses and threatens her in Part V and in Part VI when Garnet plans to send Anna her fathers head, Cynder yells at him, saying he’s tormented poor Anna enough.

Cynder has also shown to have somewhat of a code of honour as when she was confronting the anarchists in Part I, she said that if they followed her demands, she would let them go. Whether she would have kept her word or not is unknown as we see that she loves the sight of bloodshed, and is more than eager to execute the peasants that were leading an anarchist revolt, one of them even said they had a family and while Lord Sylver and a Knight Bro were cringing at the sight, Cynder was shown sadistically smiling, loving it, so it is also very likely she might have executed them anyway.

Cynder is extremely protective of Godwin, Cyndie & Rupert, going as far as to plot against Lord Richard and gather men for her cause when he attempts to take Godwin away from her, believing that he wants to hurt her son. After her son Godwin is born, she starts mellowing out to others she would often lash out to (especially Jane), and it's clear that she really does love him in spite of him being a bastard child, as she even names him after her deceased brother, whom she admired and even going as far as to slap Blayne when he points out the rumors of Godwin being a bastard, and going as far as to start plotting against Lord Richard out of fear that he might try to kill her son to become king himself.

None of this however changes the fact that she is and always will be, the main antagonist of the Wars Of Frozen Flames series.

Relationships[]

King John Koopa VI[]

Cynder is disappointed over the fact that she was arranged to marry King John Koopa VI due to her cowardly personality. She is unfaithful with him as she cheats on him with Blayne.

Lord Rugar Von Bohnenrotte[]

Cynder considers Rugar as a joke of a Duke. Rugar would lie to Cynder about her marriage to John, telling her that she would marry a fearsome, dreaded and brave warrior but John was a incompetent, useless and whiny king that didn't even want Cynder, instead wanting a blonde women. This shows that Rugar is neglectful and lie to Cynder throughout his life.

Trivia[]

  • Cynder is based on Margaret of Anjou, the wife of King Henry VI of England (who King John VI is based on).
  • Cynder can also be a parallel to Queen Mariah, Bowser’s great grandmother in the “Bowser’s Koopalings” as both are extremely fond of executions, both had terrible relationships with their fathers but are fond of their mothers, they are both very vicious & power-hungry and both have very mixed relationships with their children, the difference is that whereas Mariah at least has a last minute redemption where she vows to change her ways, Cynder shows no sign of this and remains the same for her whole life.
  • Cynder has a lot of similarities to Lady Macbeth in the Shakespearian story Macbeth due to:
    • Both Queen Cynder and Lady Macbeth being very manipulative towards their husbands when it comes to power.
    • Both being very strong, ruthless and evil.
    • They have unhappy marriages.
