Dell Conagher, better known as the RED Engineer, is the main antagonist of the Team Fortress 2 fan animation Spy's Disguise by Fortress Films.

He is a paranoid, cruel and vengeful Engineer of the RED Team who has a vendetta against the BLU Spy due to the latter continuously killing him and his team's constant loss, being effectively deepened due to the latter's newfound tactics of disguises from objects, thus becoming a ruthless and deranged sociopath who is willing to put anyone at harm for his petty pursuit.

Personality[]

The RED Engineer at first doesn't show any particular personality trait, but as the story goes on, he becomes more paranoid, and relentless throughout the chapters. It's also clear that his mental health gets worse since he kills the RED Pyro thinking that they're the BLU Spy. He also acts as somewhat of a strategist of the RED Team, ordering them to eliminate Spy by any means. He is taken as a more serious and personal threat towards BLU Spy due to his bloodthirsty pursuit, however he does seem to have a brief comedic moment when he says nope to Spy when he corners the latter towards the saw.

He also shows a sadistic and careless nature, through outside mercs due to the Respawn Machine's destruction at his own hands, being steadily focused on his vengeance against Spy. The RED Engineer is also quite overconfident and short-tempered, when he lashes out on RED Spy, and sadistically torturing BLU Spy at his heel, even being smug when seeing Spy raising his pistol, beginning to laugh which sealed his death.

History[]

The RED Engineer is first killed by the BLU Spy but later gets revenge on the latter and he and his team seem to always have the best on the BLU Spy.

After the BLU Spy accidentally obtains the ability to transform into structures, which led to the RED Team keep getting overpowered, leading to a brink of paranoia and insanity as shown when the RED Engineer snaps badly, as his team tries to work out the logic behind the cause. Due to this, he even attacks the RED Spy who tries to talk a little sense into the matter and that RED Medic has to stop him which he shoves. Later he encourages his team to go and take care of the BLU Spy, and while he takes something from a locker, he also finds a note written by the BLU Spy and the BLU Engineer, saying to meet them at Badwater Basin if he's looking for a fair fight and that they don't intend to respawn again.

Subsequently, the RED Engineer obliges and goes to the Respawn Machine's mainframe and destroys it with his wrench. Afterwards he meets with the RED Pyro; however, the RED Engineer hallucinates of his teammate being the BLU Spy and kills him.

Later, he and his team set up to fight the BLU Spy and the BLU Engineer, but things don't seemingly go well for them as the two kill mostly everyone. However, the RED Engineer decides to shoot at the BLU Engineer, allowing the RED Spy to catch the BLU Spy off-guard with a sapper. Fortunately, the BLU Engineer quickly recovers but he's seemingly killed by the RED one (although the latter later revealed to have survived thanks to a Dead Ringer). After this, the RED Engineer reveals to have brought a mech suit which he wears, starting to fight against the BLU Spy and chasing him to Sawmill, where a meeting of BLU Engineers is happening. Upon reaching the place, the RED Engineer kills all the BLU Engineers as he looks for the BLU Spy, except for one who manages to survive but is killed shortly after activating the saw and another Engineer fired his pistol, but it bounced back and hit himself, as BLU Spy blasts him through with a shotgun. The BLU Spy during their fight; regarding the fight, the BLU Spy tries to decapitate the RED Engineer through the saw, but the suit proves itself to be too resistant as the RED one reaches for a broken piece of wood and swings it at BLU Spy, knocking him out and bruising his eye. Fortunately, the BLU Engineer comes to save his friend, having a pickup truck crash against the mech. This however also proves itself to be not enough since, while it causes serious damages to the suit, it's still not enough. After the RED Engineer removes his own suit's head, however, the BLU Spy has the idea of shooting at a chain holding a bunch of wooden logs, making them fall on the RED Engineer who then laughs at the latter as he was finally killed by the wood logs when he realized too soon.

Even after his death, the RED Engineer leaves a huge psychological impact on the BLU Spy, who sees him in form of vivid hallucinations that attempt to taunt him, with the film's last scene sees the hallucination smiling as he smokes a cigarette as BLU Spy was transported to another infirmity for serious treatment.

Though not outright stated, it's implied by the presence of a Respawn Machine that the film takes place in the same universe as Emesis Blue. As such, one could theorize that the RED Engineer might be Dell Conagher, brother of Zed and Maynard Conagher.
