Orange Steve, later known as Rainbow Steve, is the deuteragonist of the Steve Cinematic Universe.
He appears as the deuteragonist of Rainbow Quest, serving as the deuteragonist of Seasons 1 and 2, the tritagonist-turned-major antagonist in Season 3 and the posthumous overarching protagonist of subsequent seasons. He also serves as a posthumous protagonist in Twisted Rainbow.
Despite being the series' secondary lead, Rainbow Steve goes down a darker path when Void Steve arrives and uses the Darkness to emotionally manipulate Rainbow Steve, eventually breaking him down and making him give up his position as the Hero, becoming one of Void Steve's henchman. Rainbow Steve was eventually able to realize he was being used and redeemed himself before Void Steve killed him.
Personality
Prior to him snapping, Rainbow Steve was extremely emotionally wracked with grief after an infected Violet Steve had belittled him, claiming that he'd failed to save the Steves, making Rainbow Steve suffer from post-traumatic-stress disorder and was willing to stop being the Hero so he couldn't fail anyone anymore.
When becoming Void Steve's minion, Rainbow Steve became extremely arrogant, confident and condescending towards Sabre, although he still harbored care for him underneath his exterior, he pushed his true feelings aside and instead put on a facade of confidence, which was amplified when the Darkness began to infect and take control of him. Not only was he condescending towards his former friends, but he was also extremely boastful and confident that he could easily take on anyone who challenged him due to his dark abilities. Additionally, Rainbow Steve was able to manipulate his former friends due to their emotions towards him and make them think he's on their side before backstabbing and betraying them.
Deep down, Rainbow Steve still cared for his friends and when confronted by the fact that he'd been used he opened a portal that would allow Sabre to find him, showing that in his last moments he'd redeemed himself.
Biography
Falling under pressure
During an attack on the Violet Village, Rainbow Steve is confronted by an infected Violet Steve, who curses out Rainbow Steve by claiming that he'd failed all to save them. This one incident is what sparked his turn to villainy and caused Rainbow Steve to doubt his abilities as the Hero. With all the pressure getting to him, Rainbow Steve lost it and retreated to his former home, destroying the house in a fit of rage until Sabre arrived and tried to calm him down. At that moment, Rainbow Steve tried to separate the crystals from himself, but when he's nearly fully separated, Time Steve intervenes and stops him before he can fully revert back to a default Orange Steve.
Time Steve and Sabre teleport back to the Rainbow Hub and carefully haul Rainbow Steve to one of the nearby houses, however, Rainbow Steve escapes and teleports elsewhere, causing Sabre to go after him. After catching up to him, Sabre tells Rainbow Steve that he'll be there for him, but Void Steve shows up and begins to mock Sabre's attempts to comfort Rainbow Steve, eventually convincing Rainbow Steve to join him after revealing that he was able to sense what the infected Violet Steve said to him. Fully unstable, Rainbow Steve agreed and joined Void Steve's side, transporting to his lair and becoming infected by the Darkness.
Joining Void Steve
Now under Void Steve's thumb as a minion, Rainbow Steve accompanied him when Void Steve captured Sabre, Time and Elemental Steve, not doing anything aside from mocking an imprisoned Sabre, despite Sabre promising that he'd fix Rainbow Steve and restore everything back to the way things were.
Rainbow Steve eventually arrived back at the Rainbow Hub where he teleported Sabre, Time and Elemental Steve to an open field and demonstrated his new powers, although he prepared to destroy the trio, he instead teleported them back to the Rainbow Hub, showing that he still cared for Sabre and his friends.
Soon after, Rainbow Steve confronted Sabre once again, mocking Sabre's thoughts of being able to redeem him. However, to convince Rainbow Steve to follow him so he could lead him into a trap, Sabre insulted Rainbow Steve and claimed that he didn't have the guts to hurt him. Rainbow Steve gave chase to Sabre and eventually fell for his trap, becoming imprisoned in his machine that he'd built with Time and Elemental Steve. However, Rainbow Steve merely laughed it off and broke out, exploding the machine and going on to fight the trio. Time Steve soon began to fight him off as Elemental Steve fought with fireballs from a distance. However, Elemental Steve was alerted of another threat and transported back to the Rainbow Hub before Rainbow Steve could kill them.
Rainbow Steve soon began to launch an attack on the Rainbow Hub, however, Sabre relayed new information to Rainbow Steve, stating that he knew of Void Steve's true origins as the first Rainbow Steve and his true goals of using Rainbow Steve to reclaim his former identity. Although he seemed to be heartbroken and willing to work with Sabre, Rainbow Steve revealed he was merely manipulating Sabre as the Rainbow Hub's shields were let down, allowing Sabre to bring in Corruption and Soul Steve. However, before they could do anything they were frozen by Time Steve and teleported elsewhere.
Redemption and death
After failing with another mission, Void Steve had enough and revealed his true colors to Rainbow Steve before locking him in a machine that would allow Void Steve to extract the crystals from him. Using his last remaining power, Rainbow Steve opened a portal to the Rainbow Hub alerting Sabre that he was in danger. Upon arriving to the temple where he was being kept, Sabre watched as Void Steve activated the machine and extracted Rainbow Steve and his powers back into the crystals, using them to become Rainbow Void.
Legacy
Despite having fallen to the dark side, Rainbow Steve's last moments showed that he had realized the error of his ways and wanted to prove to Sabre that he could be trusted. Additionally, Rainbow Void's death released the crystals, albeit combined into one, and since Rainbow Steve was half of the Orange Crystal, he was part of the combined object. The Rainbow Crystal's powers were used to cure the Steves of the Darkness and unite the Steves together.

Trivia
- Rainbow Steve joining Void Steve's side is a nod to his original incarnation where he temporarily joined Void Steve before redeeming himself and dying by Void Steve's hands.
- Rainbow Steve actually regretted joining Void Steve right after he did it. The only reason Rainbow Steve never asked for help from Sabre or the others, or ever betrayed Void is because he was worried Void would hurt him or Sabre and the others.
- It was confirmed Rainbow Steve still cared for Sabre and the others even after joining Void Steve.
- Rainbow Steve's soul was confirmed to still be living inside of Light Steve.
- It was instinct for Rainbow Steve to protect Sabre. Which is why in a last ditch effort, before his demise. Rainbow Steve subconsciously attacked Void Steve when he was about to hurt Sabre. Something both Rainbow, Void, and Sabre were surprised at.
