Wess Kennedy, more commonly known as Rat Demon is an antagonist created and owned by LuckiiBean.

A former game developer working at SEGA, he was eventually fired for his behavior and overly obsessive ambitions, and sought to finish the game he was working on. Eventually creating a gateway to the game, he entered the game and transformed into a demonic entity hellbent on claiming souls to add to his game so he can finish it in his own twisted way.

Appearance[]

Rat Demon appears as an extremely tall and slender variation of Sonic with a darker color palette, his skin appearing more pink in color and taking up the space where the white of Sonic's eyes would normally be, with his eyes being small with red pupils. His tail is long and he lacks gloves and shoes, with his feet and hands being flesh-colored and having three long fingers and fingered feet.

Personality[]

Even before his transformation, Wess Kennedy wasn't a very stable man. While he might have had big aspirations of becoming a director, he became controlling and uncooperative to work with due to his ambitions to the point where he was fired for harassing staff. After being terminated from his job, his sanity would continue to decline as he grew more and more obsessed with the game and the Sonic the Hedgehog series as a whole, eventually constructing a gateway to live out his fantasy of being Sonic himself.

As Rat Demon, Wess is a deranged, unstable and maniacal killer. He is completely obsessed with his own game and deeply desires to bring it to its full potential by giving life to the characters using the souls of people, uncaring that he's taking innocent lives away and forcing them to play a role in his twisted fantasy due to his obsession with the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Owing to his obsession with giving life to the characters, Rat Demon is a mad perfectionist who controls his world and modifies it in any way he sees fit.

Rat Demon is also not immune to being the subject of ridicule, as even his victims chastise him for his actions, leading to violent outbursts mental anguish. In spite of his instability, Wess, regardless of his condition, is a very clever and intelligent man, being a master programmer able to create entire gateways leading to alternate virtual realities.

Biography[]

Wess Kennedy was born on August 14th, 1962 and would at some point become employed at SEGA as a game developer. Eventually, Wess would begin helping as a programmer on a project for a SEGA CD port of Sonic the Hedgehog. However, during the course of the development, Wess would gradually become more controlling and his ambitions of becoming a director would be cut short after he was reported and fired due to harassing staff and his general controlling nature. However, before he was sacked, he stole the remaining code needed to finish the project, causing the port to be cancelled.

Back at his home, Wess would continue to program the game and aimed to finish what he had helped start. However, the development of the game never felt quite like it did back when he was working at SEGA, and Wess was struggling to find out what he really wanted from it. Over the next few years, Wess continued development on the game, but began to also work on using it as a gateway that would lead into the game world itself, as his mental state would continue to decline even further, becoming obsessed with becoming the one thing he loved more than anything: Sonic the Hedgehog.

After turning his Sega Genesis console into a gateway that would lead into the game world and, through unknown means, managed to enter. Through a torturous and brutal manner, Wess Kennedy would transform into a demented version of the Blue Blur dubbed "Rat Demon". However, his game was still incomplete. The one thing Rat Demon needed to finish it was life. And so, Rat Demon set out to claim the souls of people who played the game so he could add them to the game and have their souls inhabit the in-game characters in order to truly bring life to his creation.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Demonic/hedgehog physiology: Upon entering the game world, Wess was transformed into a demonic hedgehog entity, although the means of how he transformed are unknown. Along with gaining most of Sonic's abilities, he also gained some new powers of his own.
    • Immortality: Since he cannot kill any of his victims who turned into the in-game characters, Rat Demon is also immortal and cannot be killed, likely due to his mutation upon crossing over to the game world.
    • Kenokinesis: Rat Demon can manipulate vacuums by activating a function in the console he's trapped in to literally suck in a person by syphoning their flesh and bones and sucking their bodies into the game.
    • Nigh-video game manipulation: Rat Demon has almost complete control over the game he's in. He can shape the game world to his liking by creating new zones, enemies, items and assets out of thin air at will. Despite this, he doesn't have full control and cannot manipulate the game when the console is off.
    • Physical manifestation: Although it's not fully explained, Rat Demon can physically manifest in the real world under very specific, yet unknown circumstances.
    • Shapeshifting: Rat Demon is able to shapeshift into a Sonic disguise that he uses to trick players and lure them into a false sense of security.
    • Soul transferal: Rat Demon can take the souls of his victims into the game and place them into new vessels, those being the in-game characters, in order to give them new life.
    • Super speed: Rat Demon inherits Sonic's trademark speed and is an extremely fast entity.

Abilities[]

  • Master programmer: Prior to his transformation, Wess was an incredibly talented and intelligent programmer, and was even capable of constructing a gateway that lead into the game itself through unknown means.

Weaknesses[]

  • Game inactivity: Rat Demon doesn't have full control over the game. If the game is turned off, he's unable to use his powers, same goes for if the console is on but the player isn't interacting with him.
  • Height: Rat Demon's height can prove to be a hinderance when chasing down his victims if he's able to physically manifest, especially since the victim will most likely be in an enclosed environment such as in their house, making it difficult for him to navigate successfully.
  • Mental instability: Rat Demon is a still, at his core, human, and his mental instability makes it easy for the souls of his victims to get to him, tormenting him and causing mental anguish to him.
  • Power nullification: Rat Demon's powers are completely nullified when the game is off or if the player isn't interacting with him in the game. This also extends to when Rat Demon physically manifests in the real world, as his powers are heavily nullified. The only power of his that isn't completely nullified in the real world is his speed, but even then, he's only able to run at around 15-20 miles per hour and not at superhuman speeds.

Trivia[]

  • Wess is bisexual and used to listen to 80s country and rock music.
  • Rat Demon has an unexplained fear of humanity and fears them more than he does exes.
