And tomorrow morning, no playtime or walk in the park. Just a little timeout at the "pound".
~ Rotter threatening all the pets from New York after locking them up in cages, also his most famous quote.

Rotterman, commonly known as Rotter for short, is the main antagonist of Illumination's 18th full-length feature film The Secret Life of Pets 3, the third installment of The Secret Life of Pets franchise.

He is a Siberian husky who once belonged to a family that once abounded him after a couple's child became allergic to dogs without understanding and was later taken by animal control where he would never be taken in by other families for being too old, and would later belong to a trio of criminlals that smuggles other pets to be euthanized in another country, thus making Rotter the one who rules over the headquarters known as the Pet Home.

Rotter is also Max and Duke's most personal and current arch-nemesis and Rooster's former best friend and brother-figure whom the latter turned on for not agreeing with him that they were both "betrayed" by their previous owners and would seek revenge on him one day.

He is voiced by Liam Neeson who also voiced Phango in Khumba, Bad Cop in The Lego Movie, Norvirus Raccoon in The Nut Job and himself in Family Guy, and portrayed Ra's al Ghul in The Dark Night film series, Clinch Leatherwood in A Million Ways to Die in the West, Jimmy Conlon in Run All Night, Harry Rawlings in Widows and High-T in Men in Black: International.

Personality[]

Dogs with their own humor could considered being themselves. And Rotter himself would considered warm and welcoming, but in real life, he is what our owners would call all of us, a "bad dog".
~ Rooster describing Rotter's true nature to Max and Duke.

As a puppy, Rotter was very playful and friendly to both his owners and Rooster who would later become his roommate and often plays with him and the child who looked up to them.

After being disowned by the family, Rotter become very bitter and dark for this, and would stop carrying about others, including Rooster who tried to reason with him.

Rotter was now a ruthless and intimidating dog who does not show himself as a bad dog to humans, only unless he would have to harm them, and even enjoyed threatening other pets like the ones that came from the New York City apartments when they first arrived and would go on the list where all of them will be smuggled out of the country.

Physical Appearances[]

Rooter is inspired by Steele from Balto. He is a large, muscular, fierce-looking Alaskan Malamute with a black and white fur, icy blue colored eyes, black nose, white shard teeth and black claws that could be very sharp like claws of a cat.

    • Steele: Both are Siberian huskies with black and white fur, shard teeth and ice blue eyes.
    • Lotso: Both belonged to a child who left them and both of them became evil tyrants.
    • They are all Pure Evil.
  • Bryan Cranston, Ed Harris and the late Donald Sutherland were all considered the role for Rotter, until it was given to Liam Neeson.
  • Rotter is far more evil and dangerous than Snowball and Sergei from the first two films.
  • Rotter is the second Illumination villain to be Pure Evil, the other being Salvatore Malone from Johnny.
  • Rotter is considered as an evil counterpart and dark reflection of both Max and Duke, the franchise's main protagonists.
    • Max: Both being the last puppy found in a cardboard box with the word "Free Puppies", and adopted by a family, while Katie was still single after she adopted young Max. Also trained and mentored by Rooster to overcome their fears by pretending not to be afraid, where Rotter became evil and Max became brave.
    • Duke: Both adopted as puppies and raised to have a beautiful life, until they were both caught by animal control, yet in different ways of how Duke accidentally ran away from home and when Rotter caused Danny to sneeze out of allergy and to death due to his love (but was secretly willing to allow the poor kid to die after believing that abounded him), while Duke deeply cared about his late owner Fred and loved him with his life.
