~ Salvatore's last words before getting shot, unaware of Arnulf's scolding message |
Salvatore Gastaldello (born Silesu) is a minor posthumous antagonist of the dark fantasy Countryhumans fanfic The Full Moon Hangs Above and will appear as one of the antagonists of Perdition. He was the father and creator of the twins Beatrice and Renato Gastaldello.
He was created by Melchiorre Silesu, the personification of Kingdom of Sardinia (later modern Sardinia). At the age of 18, he changed his surname to Gastaldello due to his strained relationship with his father.
Appearance[]
Salvatore has a predominant white body, with green on the left side of his face and red on the right side, on the center is a blue symbol with red on the inside and a white cross. Before he became Fascist Italy, it used to have a crown above it. Like the Axis Powers, he has sharp teeth, but unlike the latter, they are actually not natural, and instead, they're prosthetic dentures. This is confirmed in a flashback that they used to be normal before his first death in the First Italo-Ethiopian War.
He wore a white military uniform with gold accents and black strap, dress shirt and tie over it with a matching cap with a golden eagle insignia. He also wore black boots.
In another flashback, he wore a different uniform, which is brown with golden epaulettes, dark green lapels and breast pocket with a golden button and a dark brown strap over it. He wears a dark green cap with the same insignia.
In his past as Kingdom of Italy, Sal has the uniform of Victor Emmanuel II.
Personality[]
There is very little known about what was his personality like when he was just Kingdom of Italy and before the creation of fascism, though it's said that during his early life, he had a strained relation with his father, Melchiorre. In addition, when he was Kingdom of Italy, Sal's personality is more serious and is a bit more grim. Like Arnulf, Naoko and Yelena (during the Cold War, though not entirely), Salvatore, when he is Fascist Italy, is cruel and sadistic to his enemies. There are moments where he tries to act nice, usually towards his children and his allies and enemies' children, but turns out to be just a façade to get along with them.
He is shown to berate and abuse his children for not accepting his fascist ideology, just like what Arnulf did to his son and Yelena to Roza, Lyudmyla, Sviatlana and the 12 other kids she kidnapped, though Sal does have his true kind moments, i.e. giving Beatrice ice cream and calmly telling her, Renato, Siegfried and Kanoko to play outside when they were little and when they first met. And lastly, before his death by execution, Sal talks about redeeming himself, much to Beatrice's confusion, only to turn out that he's lying about it to manipulate her, and Bea left with a blank expression while Sal begs for her to come back (something that he successfully achieved in his non-canon redemption).
Surprisingly, Sal does care about his children, as he is very unhappy that they are involved in the war i.e. Renato being a puppet to Arnulf and Beatrice teaming up with Yelena, revealing that, despite his atrocities, Sal does have a heart, but he only uses it when the situation is really serious. In addition, despite his berating and mocking to his kids, Sal is above physically killing them, as he is outright horrified that Renato, now under Arnulf's control, became a puppet Blutsauger and decided not to kill him.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Tail Manifestation: Salvatore can sprout a spiky green lizard tail on his back in order to activate his powers.
- Tail Regeneration: When his tail is cut off, it takes nine weeks to regenerate.
- Petrifying Gaze: Salvatore can turn his enemies into stone by his gaze.
- Fire breath: Salvatore can breathe fire.
Weaknesses[]
- Mirror: When a mirror is presented in front of Salvatore, it disables his powers. This doesn't happen when he's not in combat.
- Tail Loss: When Salvatore's tail is cut off, he can still use his powers, but however, his gaze will only partially petrify his enemies, and can only breathe small fire until his tail fully regenerates.

Kindness and Generosity: Salvatore Gastaldello Reforms as Good[]
Salvatore appears as the main protagonist of the crossover fanfic titled Kindness and Generosity: Salvatore Gastaldello Reforms as Good by lucasblakeman0. Based on the author's interpretation, Salvatore enters a redemption arc. He is revived and, after crying for Niccolò and Beatrice for his past cruel behavior and fully promising to treat them better, goes to a house which is surprisingly modern. As he is about to go to sleep, he meets the ghosts of his old allies, yet absolutely not the way for what he expects. He is absolutely horrified that Naoko Sakuranomiya (better known as the notorious Gascon French boogeywoman, Camacrusa, meaning "The Cruel Female Leg and Foot"), has monstrous and unforgivable intentions to have her way with him, but not before violently attacking and abusing Arnulf because he warned Sal about her and her malicious plans, and as his punishment, Naoko cruelly and heartlessly attacked and chased Arnulf (who Sal calls Scarbo) out of the house, with Sal having had it with her newfound hyper-aggressive temper and curses at her to stay away.
After his rest, he went on his computer and accepts a lot of friend requests on his computer, which are from his former enemies. After unlocking the door and going outside, Sal is very happy that his former enemies and their allies have came, and after they introduced themselves to him, Sal (also known as Master Mourioche) replied back with courtesy and laughter, and even sympathized Yelena Ozarovskaya (also known as Mistress Mahwot) for what happened to her. After that, Sal planned out his and his gang's big plan, simply known as The Great Big Reformation War, and instructs his allies with praying for Arnulf and Himmel (which Sal calls Karnabo) to have their peaceful eternal rest, bribe Naoko into alcoholism, lock up all the doors and windows and scare her to death, and if done correctly, then there will be a huge reward, so they set forth to Naoko's house.
When they got there, Sal and his friends are outright horrified to see Arnulf and Himmel in their horrible state, so they prayed for them to have their eternal peaceful rest by chanting them to go home. The two wept happily, as they thanked Sal for his benevolence and sunk down to their graves. He then tells Hokmuto to bribe Naoko into drunken alcoholism, so he sent him off to her. He did as told, as he told Naoko he has a gift for her, as he held it up to her. Naoko opened it up, and to her happiness, she is gifted with the alcohol, Blue Curaçao, as she kissed him on the cheek and drunk the whole bottle, which made her sharp teeth fully bare and her body (internal and external) blush completely red, revealing her sweet and motherly side, as they hold hands and Hoki took her to the living room.
Pass then uses his incredible speed from his wings to lock up all the doors and windows. Taki and Sarvente then went up to the now-hammered Naoko as they turn into their giantess demoness forms, much to her confusion and worried uncertainty. Taki and Sarvente, now called Satan Taki and Lucifer Sarvente, shrieked unbearably loud, scaring Naoko so badly that her whole body turns completely pink in fear as the mixture of turning white from her fright and red from being drunk, as she tries to run away and burst to tears as she pleads for them to stop, to no avail, revealing her to be a huge coward, but manages to regain her anger and cruelty when being completely cornered, and called Hoki a traitorous brat, yet this annoyed him and remarked this, saying her atrocious behavior and actions are genuinely annoying, revealing that when he's scolded at, Hoki shows no fear at all.
Taki and Sarvente gave Naoko the final scream, as she howls and yowls at the top of her lungs, as she died from a fatal heart attack from what's known as the Scariest Jumpscare of the Observable Universe, and her body and house evaporates into nothing, giving Naoko her just desserts and best-deserved punishment. After this heroic act, Lucas and Goddess Europe congratulated Sal and his allies for saving the Observable Universe, and as Sal's reward, his real teeth grew back, much to his delight and his friends' compliments. After that, Salvatore and the whole gang gets everything ready for Halloween Night.
At Halloween Night, Sal and his gang announced that the song they will play is Hozier's Work Song, as they sang the song live on their concert, showing off Sal's outstanding capability to sing and play instruments. After the successful performance and the performers' displays of love and affection, Sal and Dark Witch kissed each other on the lips. At the end of the story, Sal and Dark Witch are now the married boyfriend and girlfriend now husband and wife, and Salvatore and Dark Witch, along with the whole gang, are the righteous protectors of the Observable Universe. In addition, he, along with Ziggy, Nicò, Kano and Bea, became Hoki's big brother, making the latter four his other big brothers and sisters.
Surprisingly, after Naoko is brought back from her punishment in Hell as her promise to treat everyone better and change her mean ways and getting her official title of "Arch-Grandmother of the Observable Universe", Sal, along with the whole gang, is very proud and happy of her change of heart and decided to let her stay to take care of Hoki and make her a part of the family.
Recently, Salvatore even helped Naoko and his allies stop Lucemon for good.

Trivia[]
- According to Frederica, his personality was fun to write. She had been wanting to make a more serious, brutal portrayal of Fascist Italy rather than the usual portrayal from the Countryhumans fandom as a pizza lover and a typical villain's sidekick who is very incompetent and always gets beaten up for comedic effect then sided with the Allies.
- Salvatore's fake nice persona is an allusion of how Fascist Italy is usually portrayed in the Countryhumans fandom. In addition, his incompetence for losing to Athena Angelopoulou is also prevalent (though to be fair, Sal did try his hardest).
- He sharpened his teeth to look intimidating. However, it is revealed that they're actually prosthetic dentures.
- Salvatore's abilities are loosely based on the legendary Basilisk. Since he inherited them from his father and inherited them to his daughter, he would be loosely based on the Sardinian counterpart, Scultone.
- Sal is born in March 17 (Saint Patrick's Day), 1861.
- In Lucas Blakeman's Kindness and Generosity: Salvatore Gastaldello Reforms as Good, Salvatore's personality has been drastically changed from being a cruel and condescending tyrannical fascist abuser to recently, a kind-hearted, remorseful, protective, generous and righteous anti-villain protagonist who treats everyone better and reconciled with his enemies to save the world after being revived.
