Samael also known as Sammael is a major character in Hazbin Hotel: Hellbound, being a mentioned character in Season 2, as well as supporting antagonist in Season 4.
He is the leader of the exterminators as well as the messenger of heaven, and a former ally of The Devil and The Green King.
Appearance[]
Samael is a wiry angel, with a tall, slender figure, taller than most exterminators or angels.
Samael looks like a young man of about 20 years old, his skin is pale, his arms and legs are long, his shoulders are broad, his face is sharp, and he has an aquiline nose. His hair is black, combed back, except for a lock that falls just between the eyebrows to the height of the nose, and two ends combed upwards, and is serrated with three points at the back of the neck.
Samael's irises are onyx, like his eyelashes, with white sclerotids, and his eyelids are golden.
The angel usually dresses splendidly: a pair of black high-heeled knee-high boots, white pants, a soft black velvet vest with a cross-shaped gold filigram pattern on the torso and wrists. In battle Samael dresses more simply: a long black trench coat with gold buttons, which leaves the front of his legs exposed but covers even the heels of his boots.
Samael's halo is golden, however, unlike other angels, he does not have wings.
In her hair Samael wears two golden brooches in the shape of an eye with several feathers; These two brooches sometimes separate from his hair and become small eyes that help him in combat. Samael carries a scythe made up of a black metal handle and a sharp golden blade made of Holy Light.
Personality[]
Samael's personality, despite being calm is very similar to the stereotypical "sociopath", as he puts his goals and needs above everyone else, he is also jealous of the success of others (such as Micheal), and wants to either see them fall or them to praise him, despite not being wrathful or triggered easily, he also has a hatred for sinners and cherubs, considering them as lower beings, although he does not want to outright wipe them out, he wants to "segregate" them by exiling them far from civilization, even being unwilling to negotiate with Charlie as long as Vaggie was there, almost causing a fight between the two.
Samael is also able to act very good, and is good at hiding most of his true needs, even being able to fool Lucifer about it, despite this he is not that loyal to really any being or organization, he seeks be on the "winning" team which was the reason the eventually betrayed The Green King and his legions, even going as far as to cut off his wings and outright deny him ever being involved with them, although he did admit that he would have continued to be on their side had they came out victorious, and even mocked The Devil for being "loyal" to an idea instead of himself.
He also does have a sense of humor, however most of the time his jokes are either inappropriate or outright mocking tragedies, even mocking a sinner for not being able to outrun an exterminator, As well as making sexual remarks or perverted jokes, especially towards females.
Despite this, he is somewhat kind to those that mostly agree with him or his views, he is not someone who told randomly attack or mock you unless you did something against him, even saying that most of his victims he never even knew or personally killed, he also often exalts himself or what he would do, he never does torture himself and rarely does he kill anyone personally, he often uses his speeches and threats as a method of intimidation, as he himself admitted that he does not like the sight of gore or enjoy the screams of his enemies, and would rather "end them quickly" than to watch them suffer. It is heavily implied that he feels some degree of regret for serving the Green King and assisting him in his goals
He also shows no general fear of his enemies or even show much respect to those he considers a "lesser" being, he often pushes the boundaries, such as with him ranting about Lucifer and how his rule of hell is a failure, however he does not seek fights, but he does make threat and abuses his power for personal gain, stating that if Lucifer tried to attack him that would mean war, however it is unlikely that he actually seeks war but rather that he uses it as way of intimidating his enemies.
History[]
Creation[]
Samael was one of the first "Dark Angels" created by The Green King, and for a long time was a grand admiral for army, Samael was one of the strongest in the legion, and was respected by both his fellow dark angels and by heaven, even somewhat by god and Yog-Sothoth, however Assetur never saw him or the other dark angels as anything other than a way to gain power, eventually tensions would rise between heaven and the green king, however Samael had good relations with them, especially with archangel Gabriel.
The Great Wars[]
During the wars between God and The Green King, Samael had differing relations towards both sides of the conflict, to understand why you need to look at his role in the war, as during the early period of the war, Samael being one of The Green King's strongest and highest ranked generals, being the grand admiral of The Green King's army, After a war between God and The Green King begun, Samael was officially put in charge of the hellfire legion, and was tasked with the southern operations, after capturing several key locations Samael would start his grand operation of heaven's invasion, by first encircling the defense lines at the opening, this cause massive causalities to heaven's armies, after destroying the defense, Samael and a small team of about 10 elites were tasked with capturing a base camp, although the odds were not in Samael's favor, he still had somewhat of a confidence in the operation.
After briefly bombarding the camp, Samael and his allies had begun the raid on the camp, Samael after taking out the defenders managed to force the camp into a surrender, after telling his team about the victory they took control of the base and intercepted communications, however the few POW attempted to call for help, forcing Samael to kill them. After a few months of holding the camp, Samael was trying to contact either Apollyon or Assetur, but was unsuccessful on both of the attempts, and thus had to stay on the base. A few weeks after his attempts to contact with his superiors, Samael's camp was about to be raided by a large group of roughly 200 angels, and whilst he managed to defend the base, his suffered causalities, and was getting lower on supplies. After managing to contact with Apollyon, Samael was told that a large invasion was going to take place, Samael tried to ask for more details but Apollyon simply told him to try and hold the invasion. Samael not knowing of the force, had accepted the orders and attempted to fortify the base and set up traps, after trying his best Samael had gone into the base and attempted to take defense.
After a few hours, a large army of eldritch-like beings had started storming the base, and whilst Samael was able to hold out for some time, he and his team were eventually overwhelmed by the invasion. After having discovered that his defenses were overwhelmed, and with many of his team members being killed on injured, Samael had accepted defeat and surrender, he would eventually be taken to prison for questioning, and would be released from prison shortly after the war was over.
Season 4[]
In season 4, Samael appears in two episodes, the episodes being episode 6 and 8. In episode 6, Samael would arrive in hell for negotiations with Lucifer about exterminations and about Charlie. During the conversation between the two, Samael would bring up some topics from their past, the two would even agree on several issues, during Samael's return to heaven an unnamed overlord would attempt an assassination on Samael, and although it would be a failure, Samael would use this to justify raising the kill count of the next extermination. In episode 8, he would once again visit hell for negotiations, this time he would discuss Charlie's plan with her and Lucifer, after a long debate between Charlie and Samael, Samael had decided to reject her offers and told her that neither would he or heaven accept her plans, after this he went to Lucifer to inform him about the news, and eventually went back to heaven with the reports.

Powers and Abilities[]
- Telekinesis: Samael is able to fly objects using a gesture of his hand, he is also able to move objects as well as lift them, however his telekinetic abilities have several limitations.
- Fog Manipulation: Samael is able to create and control smoke, as well being able to control the properties of it, a good example of this is when he used this abilities to manipulate fog to his advantage in a battle.
- Immortality: Much like his "brother" the devil, Samael is immortal and is immune to the effects of aging, however he is still able to feel pain and is able to be damaged.
- Cosmic Manipulation: Samael is able to manipulate the objects, as well the very nature of the cosmos to his benefits, including the ability to use cosmic based attacks.
