Sans, also known by the fan alias Phantom Sans, is the posthumous deuteragonist/overarching antagonist of the Undertale AU: Dustbelief.
He shares the same past as his Dusttale counterpart: After many Genocide Routes caused by the human, Sans went crazy and started killing other monsters to become strong enough to kill them. It then got to the point where he was forced to kill his brother, Papyrus. However, Papyrus fought back and accidentally killed Sans in self-defense. Driven mad by his brother's death, Papyrus decides to take matters into his own hands and finish his goal. He then hallucinates his brother as a phantom to cope with his demise.
Personality[]
Sans was originally lazy and comedic until he was driven to insanity by the human's nonstop genocide. However, his plans were foiled when Papyrus killed him instead of it being the other way around.
Because of this, Sans isn't as insane as his Dusttale counterpart. As a phantom, he is shown to be more manipulative, as he continuously encourages Papyrus to finish what he started. He can also be pretty dark and mean, as he asks Papyrus how he felt after killing Undyne and Monster kid. Despite this, he does seem to still care for Papyrus.
Appearance[]
Before being killed by Papyrus, Sans resembled how he looked in Dusttale. His clothes were dusty and he wore his hoodie over his head. His left eye was also a mix between red and blue.
After Papyrus killed him, Sans appears as a phantom only his brother could see. His body only consisted of his upper half and jacket. Both his pupils were blue and seemed to form a doppler effect.
Trivia[]
- Unlike in canon Dusttale, Sans didn't kill Flowey early on as he appears later in Hotland to talk to Papyrus.
- Similar to the Papyrus phantom from Dusttale, the Sans phantom is a figment of Papyrus' imagination to cope with the murder of his brother and is not the real deal.
