Sans The Skeleton, or Sans for short, (also referred to as Dust!Sans or Murder!Sans by fans), is the main protagonist of the Undertale AU, DUSTTALE, and the overarching antagonist in the AU DUSTBELIEF.
He was once a comedic and lazy skeleton, but after a large amount of Genocide routes, he figures out what has been going on. As a result, he began mass murdering monsters in the Underground to gain LOVE, in hopes of getting enough strength to stop the human and anomaly causing this genocidal loop, for good.
Biography[]
After a great number of Genocide timelines, Sans realizes everything. Depending on the take, this is either found out through deja vu, or through Gaster, by Sans discovering the grey door in Waterfall. Knowing full well of the naure of Execution Points and Level of Violence, Sans takes a pragmatic approach and decides to start a genocide route of his own to gain EXP, in hopes of defeating the human once and for all, and to stop the Genocide route time-loop.
Sans' victims vary widely by take. In most old takes, such as Evan's DUSTTALE, he kills his own brother, Papyrus, while in others, such as SP!DUSTTALE, he claims the kill for almost every major character, and even steals kills before the human can to claim their EXP. Regardless, he will always gain a sizable amount of EXP, making him extremely powerful. Some takes allow Sans to steal and co-opt his victims' weapons or powers into his own arsenal, such as Toriel's fire.
Personality[]
Originally Sans was comedic, yet apathetic towards life because of his scientific knowledge of the "anomaly" affecting timelines. As a result, he was laid back and flippant, but still took a vested interest in his friends and brother. However, after the human came to the Underground and murdered almost all of its inhabitants over and over in a time-loop, Sans manages to acknowledge the repeated Genocide timelines. He then decides to kill other monsters in order to compete with the human's LOVE.
At first, killing is difficult for Sans to do, both physically and mentally. As he gains EXP and LOVE, his desire to kill and distance himself from killing grows greatly, allowing him to kill with dampened remorse and perform actions he would not normally do. As Sans approaches the absolute (LOVE 20), he slowly loses his grip on sanity.
Appearance[]
DUSTTALE!Sans is typically the same as his original canon counterpart, except with considerable dust on his body and clothes. The most commonly agreed upon aspect is that he wears his hood above his head. In most old takes, Dust!Sans has hallucinations of Papyrus with only his head, hands and scarf, and gains a hollow red left eye, with a red ring surrounding his right blue eye.

Sans' face is completely hidden by the hood, with his right blue eye being replaced by a single white pixel.
DUSTTALE: I MISS YOU[]
In the Hotland Encounter, Sans wears a blue visor and wields the Burnt Pan as a weapon. In the Final Encounter, he wears a purple regal robe and sunglasses, and wields ASGORE's red flower trident.
DUSTTALE: Brotherly LOVE[]
Sans' right eye is noticeably only ever depicted in official art as yellow, or a white swirl.
SP!DUSTTALE[]
Sans' eyes can distort to become much larger, with a black hole in the center.
In the latter half of the SP!DUSTTALE Genocide route, Sans wears a strait jacket/priest-like outfit. According to lore, the outfit is a random mix-and-match created by Papyrus based on the avant-garde style he saw on the web; inside of it, there's actually soft but sharp spikes everywhere on it, but Papyrus wore it on Sans backwards.
