Sans, also known by the fan alias Murder Sans, is the central antagonist of the Friday Night Funkin' mod, Friday Night Dustin. Like his original counterpart, he is a skeleton who became aware of the player's repeated genocide runs and sought to put an end to things by killing other monsters to become stronger and strip them of their resources, slowly going insane the more he kills.
In the mod he is voiced by Madhayter.
Appearance[]
Sans looks relatively similar to his mainline counterpart, the main difference being that his trademark jacket is now a dark purple and wears sneakers instead of slippers. Notably, he gets covered in more dust as more songs pass. For these reasons he now sports his jacket's hoodie in order to keep the dust out of his face.
Personality[]
Similar to his counterpart of the AU he is based off of, Sans was originally an apathetic and lazy, yet kind and outgoing person who cared for his friends and family. After realizing what kind of cycle he was trapped inside of, however, he snapped and took matters into his own hands by killing other monsters to put an end to things.
Sans initially was conflicted with the choices he was making, as demonstrated by his facial expressions in Perservance, in which he was either crazed looking or reluctant. However by the time he killed Papyrus, he no longer shows remorse for any of his actions, as he simply made a snide comment at Boyfriend for being unable to kill his brother before he did rather than feeling bad about it.
Biography[]
Like his original counterpart, Sans is a skeleton who lived in Snowdin with his younger brother, Papyrus. Eventually, a human fell down into the Underground and, with the power of their Determination, killed all of its inhabitants. Following this, they would continuously reset their progress back to when they first fell down and would do it all over again countless times. At some point, Chara, the first fallen human, would posses the human and took over the killing spree themselves. Eventually, Sans somehow remembers all the previous timelines, with the knowledge mentally breaking him. Realizing that this had to stop, he became apart of the madness himself by killing other monsters too.
Presumably after killing all of the monsters in the Ruins, Sans tries to collect himself outside the door before noticing a blue haired person going by the name of Boyfriend standing behind him. Initially, Sans is confused as this wasn't the human he was familiar with. However, after Boyfriend abruptly tries to attack him, he recognizes Chara's influence over him. The Boyfriend then proceeds to pull his microphone out of his pocket and Sans, understanding what kind of duel he wants, smiles and accepts his challenge. Despite his efforts, Boyfriend ends up victorious and once again rushes in to kill him. Realizing that his efforts will be in vain at this rate, Sans quickly teleports away to find more victims to become stronger.
Sometime later, Sans' younger brother, Papyrus, ventures out to find him, concerned that several monsters have gone missing and comes across Boyfriend. Papyrus recognizes him as a human and declares that he'll take him to the capital as part of his job, only for Boyfriend to challenge him to sing. Unaware of his intentions, the skeleton agrees to beat him at his own game. Before Boyfriend could kill Papyrus midway through the song, he is fatally struck by a Gaster Blaster fired by Sans and is rendered as just a head, much to Papyrus' distraught. Having become more insane since his last encounter with the rapper, Sans shows no remorse over delivering a deadly blow to his own brother and sadistically taunts the rapper over his inability to finish him first before the song continues. Eventually, Papyrus' head turns to dust, thus awarding Sans his exp before the skeleton once again makes his escape.
Trivia[]
- Earlier sprites show that Sans was gonna be singing with a microphone in V3 of the mod like Boyfriend and Papyrus. For unknown reasons this was scrapped when the sprites were remade.
- Despite this, he can be seen holding a microphone in promotional art, such as the mod's banner.
- It was revealed via a sketch that this variant of Sans still enjoys drinking ketchup, something the author of the original Dusttale AU never confirmed.
