Scarlet King is the main antagonist of the "Shadow Play" duology of season 7 of the My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Reaperverse and one of the plot-key antagonists of the entire My Little Pony G4 Reaperverse.
He is the founder and leader of the Scarlet Cult, which has been performing blood rituals and sacrifices throughout Equestria for centuries. It was on his whim that Equestria was founded.
After wanting to overthrow Celestia and Luna and rule Equestria himself, he teams up with Pony of Shadows, but is imprisoned with him in Limbo by the Pillars of Old Equestria. A thousand years later, he and Pony of Shadows are accidentally released from Limbo when Princess Sparkle returns the Pillars of Old Equestria to Equestria. After an extremely long confrontation, the Scarlet King is destroyed by The Gate Guardian.
Over 10 billion years ago, it was created by Dark The Maddened, as the closest branch of the Primordial Chaos Magic, which was supposed to work in Unity in the absence of Dark The Maddened.
For many millions of years, the Scarlet King mastered his abilities and tried to adapt to life in Unity. My Little Pony Friendship is Magic[]
Less than a year later, the Scarlet King escaped Overkill using his Scarlet Chaos Magic. After a long time of wandering around Unity, he drew attention to the My Little Pony Multiverse, which struck him with its innocence and the absence of Guardians in its territories. He was transported to the My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Universe during a period of time when Equestria had not even been founded yet, and all of its races lived separately in cold lands, when the Earth Ponies grew food as payment for creating the weather, and the Pegasus took a cut food. Unicorns also demanded payment for raising the sun and moon with magic. Neither tribe cared what was going on with the other.
Scarlet King watched everything and tried to figure out how this whole race would benefit him. As a result, he had the great idea to create his own cult of self-worship, but only on the condition that he and his cult were not mentioned in the history books of Equestria, keeping it secret from all curious people, including the then rulers of the three races, calling it the Scarlet Cult. For decades, his cult carried on secret but successful activities, bringing one victim in the form of a blood sacrifice to the Scarlet King once every month. Knowing that no evidence or even hints could be left behind, the Scarlet King ordered his cultists to destroy all traces of the Scarlet Cult's presence and ordered the cultists themselves to either commit suicide or send themselves into a dangerous situation to ensure the death of all cultists. He carried out this cleansing process only when he realized that active sacrifices to Yogu would attract the attention of the then rulers of the three races, and getting rid of all evidence, he waited until suspicion and rumors about the Scarlet Cult died down enough for the Scarlet King to continue his activities again of his Scarlet Cult.
These difficult but effective methods of promoting the Scarlet King's influence continued until a major blizzard came and caused food shortages, and until the population of all three races became dangerously low for the Scarlet Cult to continue its activities.
Deprived of food, the leaders of each pony tribe decided to meet to decide what to do next. The meeting, however, did not go well as they continued to argue with each other. After the meeting, three ghostly horses are shown looking down at the earth from a passage in the clouds; later they are called windigos. The chiefs returned to their aides and said that the meeting had gone poorly because the others had refused to cooperate. Cookie, at the instigation of the Scarlet King, tells Chancellor Hardhead that they have no food, and she exclaims: “I have a brilliant idea!” She decided that they needed to grow food somewhere else, and each leader came to the conclusion that they should find new lands. At this time, a young Slenderman, who had arrived in their settlements, showed up to all three races and offered them his help in the form of improving their lives in exchange for the construction of a “special portal” (a portal to the World of Fantastic Creatures), but the result was made from improvised non-magical materials. In the episode "Shadow Play. Part 1", when Twilight's friends return with the talismans, Twilight arranges them and Star Swirl's journal in a hexagonal pattern on the rock formations of Ponyhenge. Twilight, Starlight, and Sunburst use their magic to cast the spell, and the magic successfully frees the Pillars of Old Equestria from Between Time. When Star Swirl regains consciousness and Twilight tells him what she and her friends did, Star Swirl becomes sad. He demands that they undo what they did and bring them back, but she says they can't.
As dark clouds gather in the sky, a black amorphous creature appears, taking the form of a large horned pony with wings of smoke, and a creature with deer antlers, an eyeless smile, and a flying crown above its head. Twilight's spell returned not only the Pillars of Old Equestria, but also Pony of Shadows and Scarlet King.
In the episode "Shadow Play. Part 2", with their newfound freedom, Pony of Shadows and Scarlet King destroy the magical pillars of Ponyhenge and Star Swirl the Bearded's diary, preventing the Pillars of Old Equestria from imprisoning the two in Limbo again. Scarlet King is, in every way, a loathsome god who seeks sadistic pleasure from the sacrifices of his Scarlet Cult. A terrifying, cruel, sadistic, and power-hungry monster who bullies the weaker inhabitants of Equestria and uses his powers of manipulation to not only erase all data about himself from Equestria's history, but also to change the very history of Equestria to his liking. He shows no concern for the Equestrians and views them only as livestock and consumables for his Scarlet Cult. Although he pretends that he wants to rule Equestria like a good monarch should, this is just a facade that he presents to his enemies in order to make them think that he has some standards, and at the same time hide his true intentions.

As such, he is also indirectly responsible for Celestia's attempt to mistakenly execute Forestfear, and his subsequent escape to the Human World, which also makes him indirectly responsible for the formation of Ministers of Forestfear, the Lords of Business, as well as the formation of the old and new Elements of Disharmony from the Human World, which also makes him responsible for all of their crimes against Equestria and the Human World.
He is also indirectly responsible for Sci-Twi's transformation into Midnight Sparkle, as well as being directly responsible for the near-constant infiltration of Equestrian magic into the Human World due to Midnight Sparkle's actions, and all of the crimes the human temporary wielders of that magic have committed against the Guardians of Harmony and the civilian population. Including Wallflower Blush's Memory Stone, PostCrush's Time Twirler, Juniper Montage's Magic Mirror, Vincent Valencia's Magic Phone, and Forestfear's Magic Crystals, which were used by Gloriosa Daisy.
Ultimately, he is almost directly responsible for the formation of the Friendship Guardians via the magical crystals formed from Forestfear's body.
All those who were sacrificed to Scarlet King saw the image of Scarlet King in front of them a moment before their death. This is explained by the fact that Scarlet King thus mocked his victims in a manner that showed himself to them, knowing with sadistic pleasure that they would no longer be able to tell anyone the truth about him and his Scarlet Cult.
Redsect
The Equestrian whom Scarlet King kills in front of Princess Twilight during their dialogue is Redsect, the only Equestrian created directly by Scarlet King's powers. His name is a derivative of the words "red" and "bug", referring to his cutie mark of two ladybugs.
Scarlet King's poem contains metaphorical expressions that hint not only at what he did to the people of Equestria to keep the truth from them, but also at his personal nature. The expression "load-bearing reasons" is a hint that he cleaned up the history of Equestria so that all the inhabitants of his country would remain ignorant and live peacefully, without a burden on their souls. The expression "creative tear" hints at his narcissistic admiration for his strength and his cruelty, and also unequivocally hints at his hypocrisy towards others.
