“ | “At first, I believed that Earth was a relegated hovel my kind and I were damned to inhabit. But I was wrong. Oh, the heart of Gaea has a great many assets, indeed. Over the centuries, I have collected gifted beings such as you, and I have given them a purpose. Just put your faith in me, my children, and you shall be rewarded. But you must always remember what drives you. Remember what brought you to me. The Hood’s fanaticism, Masky’s pain, Jeff’s hate, your shame. There is always a reason humanity has come to me. I shall never let you forget why that is. But take heart in knowing that our meeting was a good thing. The Fates willed it so. They saw that you suffered, but did they help you? Did any so-called gods so much as lift a finger? No. Only me. I have given you the means to take vengeance on your tormentor. The only thing I ask in return is your loyalty. Join me. Trust me. Obey me. And I shall let you follow me into paradise. Follow me, my children. Our victory…is inevitable. Our enemies shall succumb to our power. And they most certainly will die.” | „ |

“ | The Omniverse is a chaotic, meaningless wasteland, and its inhabitants are nothing but toys being played with by the indifferent children we are forced to call gods. There is only one true destiny for this worthless odyssey that we call life. It is for it to end. | „ |
~ Slender Man expressing his severely nihilistic outlook on life. |
Slender Man is the overarching antagonist of The Gray Chronicles. Specifically, he is the main antagonist of Go to Sleep: The Origin of Jefferson Gray and the overarching antagonist of the upcoming Tragedy of Ticci Toby and Kate the Chaser.
Like all of his incarnations, Slender Man is a malevolent creature who amuses himself by inflicting madness on humans, killing them, and eating their flesh, and he manipulates broken, murderous people into becoming his minions, the Proxies. However, he also has an all-consuming desire to be worshipped as a god and plunge the Omniverse into chaos by spreading endless madness, suffering, and death. Slender Man is also the creator of the Deadites and the arch-enemy of Ash Williams and Korbyn Jumping-Eagle.
Early life[]
Much of Slender Man’s early life is unknown. However, what is known is that his true name is Kand, and he is an Avatar, the first class of deities. He was declared to be the Avatar of Evil, War and Corruption, the twin brother of Cekoraia, the Avatar of Peace and Righteousness. Exactly when Kand was born is unclear, but he has said that he is old enough to have seen the birth and death of galaxies, and described the Avatars Gaea and Ouranos as "mere children". He had earned his titles shortly after the birth of his younger siblings, Maturin the Turtle and the entity known only as It. For as long as he could remember, the Omniverse had been peaceful and tranquil. As far as Kand was concerned, it was a meaningless existence. He was an immortal being, like his family, and despite taking pride in lording over mortals, as opposed to his benevolent parents and siblings, Kand felt that his existence was empty all the same. Bullying insects wasn't going to be enough for him, Kand decided. He wanted to put an end to the peace he had grown to despise, and knew that there was only one way to do that. He would have to bring one of his siblings down to his level. As soon as It was born, Kand tore the infant god out of their mother's arms and, ignoring their father's outraged yells, teleported to Gaea's planet, Earth. Declaring that his sibling would be his first of many puppets, he proceeded to callously drop the infant to the nascent Earth, landing on the area of land that would one day become Derry, Maine, the hunting grounds for the abandoned, feral Avatar of Consumption. Sensing the hatred and fury growing within his sibling, Kand was even more delighted to sense that, beyond anything else, It wanted to murder Kand for what he had done, to make him scream and suffer before It consumed him. Every 27 years, It would suffer from a ravenous hunger, which could only be satisfied by causing catastrophic events and eating mortals after driving them mad with their worst fears. Eventually, It would grow to enjoy torturing Its prey before eating them, specifically by feeding on their fear to improve the taste of Its meal. Pleased that his plan had worked, Kand moved on to his next endeavors. He had finally cured his boredom by introducing the concept of evil.
By the time the Titans, ruled by Kronos, the being who would one day become Zalgo, rose to power by dethroning Ouranos, Kand was most pleased. Kand commended Kronos for "making things interesting". Shortly after the birth of the Olympians and the consequent War of the Gods, Kand would continuously pull the strings of the conflict, sowing the seeds of hatred and cruelty in the hearts of as many combatants as he could. He watched with glee as soldiers callously murdered their comrades, and increased the hatred Zeus and Kronos had for each other to the point that father and son tried to kill each other. Lurking in the shadows, Kand watched as Kronos was defeated by Zeus. Believing he would get no further entertainment from the Titan Emperor, he created a portal that would send Kronos directly to Hell, where he would rot with all of the other gods that were imprisoned either directly or indirectly due to Kand's influence. However, this decision would prove more problems than he had foreseen, as Kronos would defeat Am Daehgar, and become the new ruler of Hell, take his birthname of Zalgo, and declared himself the Emperor of the Chaos Gods and the Avatar of Chaos and Wrath.
Wanting to work as anonymously as he could, Kand approached his wife, Amare, the Avatar of Conquest. He proposed that in order to grow their forces, they would need to wander from place to place, on Earth and abroad. Despite not being anywhere near as cruel as her husband, Amare felt it was the honorable thing to support him. Although she would grow to wish she hadn't.
The Birth of Slender Man[]
Making his new home in the woods of Mycenae, he would observe the humans that occupied the city. He was disgusted by their “inferiority”, specifically their weaker immune systems, mortal lifespans, and dependence on the gods. Filled with fury at the thought of a “worthless species” thriving, Kand used his power to lure hapless humans into the woods, where he would kill them and feast upon their bodies. Feeling a sadistic sense of euphoria from killing those he deemed weaker than him, Kand henceforth made a new mission for himself. He would continue killing and spreading madness until the Omniverse itself was plunged into everlasting madness and death, driving all of the inhabitants of it insane and killing them for his amusement. Over the centuries, he would torture humans, drive them insane, and kill them. His legend spread across the world, from Greece to Germany to the Americas. In time, he would cast aside his old name and embrace one that the humans gave him: Slender Man.
By the 1st Century, Slender Man was present during the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. As he relished in the suffering of humanity’s champion, Slender Man sensed an “ancient presence”. Soon enough, he once again confronted Zalgo, the Avatar of Chaos. Familiar with what Zalgo did in Hell, Slender Man sarcastically asked if there was anything he needed. Grinning, Zalgo cheerfully said that there were “so many things” he needed, but he mostly wanted to see Slender Man for himself. Zalgo went on to taunt Slender Man over never confronting him, playfully asking if he lacked the courage. Utterly infuriated, Slender Man engaged Zalgo in combat, much to Zalgo’s excitement. Their battle scorched the Earth itself, the storytellers later recalling that the rocks and seas were stained with the blood of mortals while the Faceless God and He Who Waits Behind the Wall battled. Zalgo was vastly more powerful, but Slender Man, refusing to lose, tore two of Zalgo’s legs off, leaving him wounded. Chuckling and remarking how “beautiful” the pain felt, Zalgo politely applauded Slender Man and teleported back to Nezperdia, but not before warning Slender Man that this was only the beginning. Begrudgingly agreeing, Slender Man declared war against Zalgo, promising that he would destroy everything Zalgo cared for. In time, Slender Man would add another aspect to his “grand plan”. He would destroy Earth itself by killing Gaea, Zalgo’s beloved mother. To do so, and to complete his ultimate goal of destroying the Omniverse Slender Man would need to find the Macroversal Talisman, the most powerful object in existence. He also became fixated on the Dark Tower, and was determined to find it, theorizing that the Macroversal Talisman would show him the way to it.
Creating the Deadites[]
Shortly after his encounter with Zalgo, Slender Man furthered his plan. He realized that despite his vast power, he would need minions to assist him, as he deemed his family were “not enough”. After eons of searching, he finally found a book he had coveted for centuries: the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis. Tied before him was one of his victims was the owner, a Hebrew priest and demigod son of Athena, Reuven, who warned Slender Man that if he dared to conduct this ritual, he would die. Unfazed, Slender Man taunted Reuven by saying that “Everything will die”. With that, Slender Man wrote his spell into the book and spoke it aloud in demonic tongues, completing the ritual by cutting Reuven’s throat and slicing his own hand, forcefully shoving his own blood into the hole in Reuven’s neck. After a moment of quiet, Reuven awoke with a roar, his skin gray-ish blue, his eyes completely white, his teeth fanged, and a hideous grin on his decayed face. Slender Man had turned Reuven into the first Deadite, and in turn he would create legions more of them. Even better for him, Reuven was Slender Man’s first Proxy, the first of millions. Pleased with his creation, Slender Man ordered Reuven to corrupt more humans and add them to their ranks, which the now completely obedient Reuven did with zeal. In time, the Deadites would plague the world, much to Slender Man’s satisfaction.
The Unseen Kingpin[]
By the 1930’s, during the golden age of organized crime, Slender Man saw another opportunity to spread his influence. Realizing that humanity became even more inclined to murder and steal for the sake of power and money, Slender Man knew that they would be easier to tempt to his side. As his magical skills allow him to generate vast amounts of money out of nothingness, this would make his plan go along even more smoothly. With that, Slender Man created a human disguise, Victor Knudsley, a wealthy English crime lord hailing from London. In time, “Knudsley” became an infamous figure in the criminal underworld, especially after he had the Brooklyn Police Department Headquarters bombed, killing hundreds of people. This was done by his Proxies on his orders, who had also wiped out an entire gang in Glasgow. His repuatation was so great at this point that even Al Capone feared him. While acting as “Victor Knudsley”, Slender Man would continue collecting “broken” humans and making them his new Proxies.
Personality and Traits[]
“ | We're all going to die. Me. You. Every one you cherish. Everyone you try so desperately to defend, never realizing that none of it matters. Even the gods are fighting a losing battle, once Ragnarok comes, most of them will die too. And in time, I will make sure they all die. Yes...I will make EVERYTHING die. | „ |
~ Slender Man stating his ultimate goal. |
A manipulative, intensely sadistic megalomaniac, Slender Man is considered to be the embodiment of sheer malice and evil. Nihilistic in every sense of the word, Slender Man's most noteworthy trait is his overwhelming hatred for all life, seeing it as an "unfair, torturous nightmare" that deserves nothing less than total annihilation. His contempt for life is so great that his greatest desire is to destroy the Macroverse itself and ensure that nothing exists, including the afterlife. Slender Man says that he wants to destroy the "roots of creation" itself, suggesting that he has fourth-wall awareness and wants to find a way to destroy all life in our reality as well.
He is extremely manipulative and a consummate actor, easily fooling potential Proxies into believing that he is a benevolent being. Slender Man cleverly puts on the facade of a loving, sympathetic father figure to lure them into a false sense of security. Once he has them under his control, he subjects them to mental and often physical abuse, either for his amusement or out of anger for their failures, but he tricks his Proxies into thinking he truly loves them and hates abusing them, even though he takes sick joy in their pain. This manipulation tactic has worked on all of his Proxies aside from Jeff the Killer, who secretly despises his master. In turn, Slender Man hates Jeff and sees him as "impure", suspecting that Jeff will one day betray him. Slender Man is also extremely arrogant, seeing himself as the "God of Gods" and views all life, including that of his family, as inferior to him. He suffers from a superiority complex and narcissism, reacting with fury when criticized and smugly looking down on the people around him. Despite his arrogance, Slender Man is very cunning and learns from his mistakes, and even laughs at himself for making said mistakes.
The biggest example of Slender Man's utter lack of empathy is how he separated his sibling It from their family when It was an infant, and callously abandoned It on Earth to fend for Itself, all for his own amusement. Slender Man being the catalyst for all of the death, pain, and suffering that would plague the town of Derry due to It's hunt out of nothing but boredom is a perfect example of his callous selfishness.
As a father, he is cold and distant towards his children, although he has a decent relationship with his eldest son and daughter, Vexo and Arc, but no overt affection. This coldness even extends towards his wife, Amare, who at one time was the only person he showed genuine love for. Slender Man seems to value his wife and two favorite children as tools or even pets, not precious children or a beloved spouse. Out of all of his children, Slender Man has the most disdain for his youngest, Capta, seeing him as a, "weak, squeamish quim".
Utterly heartless and cruel, Slender Man daily commits mass murder with sadistic glee, even going so far as to murder 10 Cub Scouts and their troop leader, then nailed their body parts into the trees, laughing the whole time.
Out of all his enemies, Slender Man has the most hatred for Ash Williams, as Ash has been fighting him longer than almost anyone, and has even defeated him before. Filled with humiliation and a desire for revenge, Slender Man promised to himself that he would take a special interest in making Ash suffer, and takes delight in tormenting Ash over the torturous deaths of his friends, especially his girlfriend Linda. He is also well aware that Ash has been dealing with PTSD due to his never-ending war with the Deadites, which Slender Man takes sick pride in, showing that he enjoys torturing his foes mentally, physically, and emotionally. Overall, Slender Man is a cruel, sadistic, spiteful, and abhorrent monster who gladly destroys and tortures all life for his sick, demented pleasure.
Powers and Abilities[]
"
“ | To challenge me is tantamount to suicide. Allow me to show you why. | „ |
~ Slender Man gloating about his vast power. |
“ | Yeah, I suppose that about sums him up. A crazed, delusional sadist who just so happens to be the Devil himself. His only wish is to destroy the Omniverse. And yes, he might be able to pull it off. All the more reason why I'm really gonna enjoy killing him. | „ |
~ Zalgo acknowledging Slender Man's power and aptly describing him. |
High intelligence: Slender Man's most dangerous weapon is, without a doubt, his mind. As an experienced politician, warlord, sorcerer and scientist, Slender Man is one of the most intelligent and wise beings in the Omniverse. He is especially proficient in manipulation and gaslighting, which is his favorite methods of collecting new Proxies. He took advantage of Jeff's traumatic childhood and explosive hatred for his enemies, Toby and Kate's grief over the death of their brother Billy, and the excessive paranoia and deteriorating mental health of Alex Kralie and the EverymanHybrid crew to suit his goals. Slender Man was even clever enough to create a human disguise and manipulate most, if not all, of the most notorious crime lords on Earth into kowtowing to him. Ever one to plan ahead, Slender Man created different human disguises over the years, but his most infamous one is "Mr. Knudsley".
Immortality: As an Avatar, Slender Man is immortal. Despite being 12,000 years old and being considered middle aged by their standards, Slender Man still has the stamina of a man in the prime of his youth. He cannot die from aging, starvation, disease, or sleep deprivation.
Appearance:[]
Slender Man looks very similar to his original counterpart, but with some slight differences. His “face” is slightly more defined, with a pronounced brow set in a permanent scowl with prominent cheekbones giving him the appearance of a skull. When Slender Man is scheming or enraged, his icy. dull red eyes are visible. They have serpentine pupils and black sclera. When he devours his victims, Slender Man reveals a drooling mouth with vomit green gums, shining white teeth, and a long black tongue. Wherever he walks, he is followed by a cloud of fog.

Trivia[]
*Despite being Jeff's master, Jeff also views him as his true enemy, and in return Slender Man secretly plans Jeff's demise. Furthermore, Slender Man is considered to be one of, if not the, most dangerous creatures in the Omniverse, specifically being the arch-enemy of The Marble Hornets and Ash Williams. Even Zalgo is aware of the danger Slender Man possesses and seeks to kill him. Therefore, Slender Man is considered the overall overarching antagonist.
*CashLannister said his head-canon voice actor for Slender Man would be Ian McDiarmid or Tim Curry.
*Most of Slender Man's inspirations in this story comes from The Lich from Adventure Time, Infinity Ultron from What If...?, Vecna from Stranger Things, and Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars.
*It is unknown why Slender Man needed the Necronomicon to conduct the ritual that created the Deadites, but a possibility is that he, as a sorcerer, knew the power of spellbooks and considered the Necronomicon to be the most powerful of them. Ironically, the Necronomicon was created by his hated enemy Zalgo.
*Slender Man is so infamous that even gods such as Odin and Athena view him as a horrible threat, and Roland Deschain called him a threat to life itself.
*His theme songs would be "Sympathy for the Devil by the Rolling Stones", "Master of Puppets" by Metallica, and "Confrontation and Rescue" by Phillip Glass.
*Much of Slender Man's powers are unknown, and how he acquired such vast occult power is left unclear. It is implied that he is self-taught, or perhaps was once an apprentice of Hecate, the goddess of magic. As Slender Man once attempted to kill Hecate, and the two are shown to despise each other, it is possible that this theory is correct, or perhaps they were simply rivals. Much of their history is unclear.
*After creating the Slender Sickness, he caused it to spread across the universe, in an attempt to eradicate all life. However, in the end he declared it a "failed experiment", even though the death toll was catastrophic nonetheless.
