Jeremy Edison, simply known as Slenderman, is one of the three overarching protagonists (alongside PASSION and the Lightbringer) of the Rememberence franchise.
He serves as the tritagonist of the prequel ARG Repressed Memories, one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside HABIT) of Rememberence, and the unseen overarching protagonist of the sequel novel Forgotten Troubles.
Once an ambitious young urban explorer, he eventually got trapped in Desire Lake Forest and corrupted by a dark force of nature known as the Fog. Now under the name of Slenderman, he seeks to kill anyone that was either involved in the incident or not.
He is voiced by Powermonger2003, who also voices HABIT and Geminald in the same series.
History[]
Origins[]
Born as Jeremy Edison, at the age of 25, he decided to start his career as an urban explorer. He went across many areas, trying to spot any evidence to prove that the theories were indeed true. One fateful day however, Jeremy decided to go out into the Desire Lake Forest to see if rumours of the Fog were true after all. Turns out that making it out alive for him wasn't all that easy. While he did make it out alive, as the Fog began to envelop him, he transformed into the demonic beast we know as today as the Slenderman.
Horribly disfigured and mutated, he swore that he would kill anyone that dared him to go into that forest alone.
Season 1[]
In episode 5 of season 1, the Slenderman first makes a cameo appearance as Smith is watching the TV, as a dark reflection looms over the TV for a split second before disappearing. Smith, whom saw this, knew exactly what was coming to him, and demanded his fellow crewmates to get to safety immediately.
In the next episode, the Slenderman makes a full appearance. After knocking out Jason Hemwig's camera, he leans towards the ground, trying to use his hearing to find the other members. He then picks up the camera himself before throwing it towards Diane Jones before dragging her away.
Season 3[]
The Slenderman makes yet another appearance in the last episode of season 3, where he is seen looming over a terrified Jason before attempting to possess him. The Slenderman then begins to slowly dissipate into Jason's body, but not before Jessica Mason shoves Jason over, which accidentally causes him to bash his head whilst damaging Slenderman badly. Slenderman then retreats to the Twisted Gaze in order to ask a fellow cult leader for a favor.
Season 5[]
Slenderman makes another cameo appearance in season 5, as after Smith escapes and runs away, brief flashes of Slenderman can be seen on pavements and in the middle of roads, which is a sign that the Slenderman is toying with Smith's mind. He is also mentioned by Frank a couple of times as "a beam of hope" during a cult meeting.
Season 6[]
The Slenderman, along with THOUGHT and Oddity appear in season 6 where the Slenderman confronts Smith Jones yet again within the Hideout. The Slenderman proceeds to possess Smith this time, but not out of sadism, but out of spite, while explaining to Smith that he will bring out his darkest desires. Luckily, Jason shoots Slenderman in the foot which causes him to drop Smith, giving him a chance to escape.
Now infuriated, the Slenderman attempts to actually destroy Jason's mind whilst possessing him again. Before this can happen, THOUGHT ends up blowing up the boiler, causing the Slenderman and Oddity to disappear.
Season 9[]
The Slenderman makes a brief appearance at the end of season 9. Slenderman walks around a forest which he recognises as the Desire Lake Forest. Telepathically, the Slenderman calls out to the Fog and THOUGHT that he will no longer trust them, and that he will set his own path.
The last scene then shows him standing near a well (presumed to be the home of Oddity) before hearing the voice of his victims (both killed and attempted) who were afraid of the Slenderman himself. Saddened, Slenderman holds a heart locket which shows what seems to be himself as a human and an unknown woman before saying "I'm sorry, my dear. I'll set it right.", and proceeds to find Smith and Jason to warn them of THOUGHT.
Season 10[]
Slenderman returns as an anti-hero in season 10 during episode 2, where he warns Smith and his crew about THOUGHT. Whilst it was a brief appearance for Slenderman, those words would turn out to be true during episode 3.
In episode 10, Slenderman was seen sitting inside the garage of Smith's house on the workbench. When approaced by Smith about what he was doing there, Slenderman telepathically said "my own needs, young one. I still need to protect you all, and look after my own needs. It's my new devotion from now on. As Smith gave a brief smile, he concluded that he shouldn't harass Slenderman about how to end THOUGHT's reign of terror. Much to Smith's surprise, Slenderman heard his thoughts, and promised that once he gets "the information he needs", he would be able to best the demonic entity.
After reviving Jason Hemwig, he reacted in a 10-second silence after hearing of Frank's betrayal. Slenderman would then shut off the betrayal conversation by concluding that if they want to defeat THOUGHT, then they must advise a plan. As they all took their leave, Slenderman concluded that he must "dissolve [his] clan" to atone for his mistakes.
Appearing in the Twisted Gaze's hideout, he pierced the torso of a mutant (Known as Otto by the creator), and so marked the beginning of the massacre.
Season 11[]
This area is still under construction.
Appearance[]
As Jeremy Edison, he appeared as a fairly young man with fair skin, green eyes, long brown hair tied into a bun and glasses. Whilst exploring, his attire consisted of a white jacket, a gray top, black trousers and dark brown boots.
As Slenderman however, he had been transformed into a 15 feet tall humanoid entity with a pure white body devoid of facial features, long outgrown limbs and fingers. Instead of his exploration attire, the Slenderman instead appears with dark clothing with a slightly lighter tie. (much lighter than the rest of his dark clothing)
Unlike his other counterparts, this version only shows his tentacles during distortions and/or hallucinations.
Personality[]
While he was a human, Slenderman used to be a calm, composed and intelligent man who was often described as a hero to his home town. However, due to his mutation, he became a murderous, vengeful being who seeks to kill anyone involved in the incident. He also comes off as "insane" due to the fact that as the seasons continued, Slenderman would later become so insane to the point that he formed the Twisted Gaze, a cult known for worshipping beings and imprisoning "mortals".
Despite all the negative traits above, he still very much cares for his fellow Twisted Gaze members, often rewarding them whenever a task was done. He also seemed to be in a relationship with an unknown woman as shown at the end of season 9, even affectionately referring to her as his "dear". He also seems to have a slight moment of remorse for his actions, as he began hearing the voice of his past victims screaming in terror.
After redemption, he seems to have mellowed out on Smith's crew nowadays, even giving them advise on what they should do next. While passive towards recognizeable faces, he still acts on a murderous impulse towards those that did enough harm to him, with the case being Frank and his lackeys.
List of victims[]
- 8,000 people - Killed and proxified offscreen
- An unnamed boy - Proxified
- Smith and his crew - Attempted; later abandoned
- Diane Jones - Eaten alive. (Revived)
Trivia[]
- This is one of the many iteration(s) of Slenderman to be a tragic villain.
- This could also be one of the many iterations (if not the only iteration) of Slenderman who redeems themselves.
- His human name is unintentionally based on Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear, something that the creator didn't notice at first.
- This would later be retconned in the upcoming novel OVERCOME which states his name as Jeremy Edison.
- Despite what one may think, Slenderman is actually the central protagonist, as despite how horrible his actions were, he still had a reason to brainwash and murder people. He was also inevitably sacrificing many people to prevent Geminald's return.
- On a poll regarding what Rememberence antagonist one would like to hang out with, both Slenderman and THOUGHT were rivalled at 38%, with a total of three votes each. On a repost, however, Slenderman had tallied 58% and had reached a total of seven votes. It's debatable whether or not Slenderman would be a good person to hang out with, though given his change of heart in recent episodes for the better, it's safe to say so.
