Sonic.exe, also known as Lord X (or simply X), is the titular main antagonist of JoeDoughBoi's Sonic.exe series and its sequel series, Soulless Sonic. He first appeared in the latter and JohnKun's 2023 fangame SONIC 2011.
He is an interdimensional eldritch entity that grew fascinated with the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, going so far as to morph his own body in the shape of its titular character. He created a haunted CD-ROM copy of the original 1991 game as a gateway to reap souls into his own pocket dimension, using a devoted cult to pass the game from victim to victim as a hope for him to one day have humanity all to himself.
He replaced both the original and MY5TCrimson versions of the character and is now considered the definitive canon interpretation. His 2011 version is voiced by DylanZeMuffin, and his laugh sound is provided by Madzilla. while Lord X's voice actor is currently unknown, listed as "???????"[3]
Overview[]
History[]
In mid-2011, the creature that would soon become Sonic.exe was formed in the depths of the cosmos due to a cataclysmic collision of VOID energy creating a sentient entity made of antimatter. As the entity wandered the cosmos in his early years, he came across Earth and began to obsess over humans[4]. He was exposed to the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise at an early age, also growing obsessed with the franchise and its characters in the process.
As this obsession grew, he began tormenting an online user known as GammaEpsilon and other users.
SONIC 2011[]
In the game, he serves as the titular main antagonist. Initially, the player controls Tails and progresses through the level called "HILL". As Tails explores, they come across dead animals scattered on the ground and in the palm trees. Suddenly, X is spotted hiding in one of the trees while Tails continues to run. Out of nowhere, X appears motionless, leaving Tails puzzled. When Tails approaches him, strange static noises can be heard and seen. As Tails touches X's shoulders, his eyes open and the scene fades to black.
Later on, the scene transitions to a level named "HIDE AND SEEK". Tails is seen crying while running through a burning Angel Island Zone, with a timer ticking down. Suddenly, halfway through the level, time runs out. X glitches into view, saying, "Ready or not... HERE I COME," as static fills the screen. Tails desperately tries to escape, but ends up tripping and getting caught by X. The fox cries out in pain as X appears and kills him by twisting his neck. After Tails becomes X's victim, Knuckles takes over as the player and enters the Scrap Brain Zone titled "YOU CANT RUN". Once again, static effects and blood appear beneath the ground. The stage itself is engulfed in darkness, only illuminated by occasional lightning flashes, revealing a hellish red sky.
X teleports in front of Knuckles, with the text "FOUND YOU", forcing Knuckles to fight against him. X continuously teleports, taunting Knuckles with glowing teeth and provocative poses. In a final attempt, Knuckles weakly punches X, but he temporarily disappears, taking advantage of Knuckles' exhaustion. After a brief intermission, X reappears in front of Knuckles, brutally kicking him to the ground and repeatedly slamming his fists into his chest, ultimately killing him. The final character is Dr. Robotnik; the player starts in Marble Zone, now labeled as "...". The background resembles a castle, with walls covered in blood and eerie blue flames. Robotnik rushes down the stairs as the background changes erratically before X opens his mouth to devour his soul and erase him from existence, just as the screen turns to static. Suddenly, a screen appears with X's glowing red eyes, followed by his entire face. Red static fills the screen and X becomes clear, writing "I AM GOD" with his bloody hands on the screen, while the red static flickers. Afterwards, X opens his mouth, revealing three black holes, and jumpscares the player, shattering the screen. Eventually, the game crashes and a sinister message is left by X along with the game's credits via Notepad is shown, leaving the message and cracked screen (the only way to remove it is by going into task manager on your Windows PC and ending the task).
WHITE RABBIT[]
The ambiguous video begins with a young girl named Alice who lives with her father. Her father would often come out to play with her, but one day, he didn’t appear. Days turned into weeks, and Alice grew increasingly worried. It wasn’t until she encountered a white rabbit that she learned the reason for his absence. The rabbit revealed that Alice's father had lost something very important, and she needed to find it and return it to him. Confused, Alice asked the rabbit where to go, and he urged her to follow him. She followed the rabbit into Wonderland, determined to discover what her father had lost. As they explore, it became harder for Alice to keep up with the rabbit until, eventually, he lost her, leaving her alone. Suddenly, Alice transformed into a rabbit, resembling the white rabbit. The item her father had lost was, in fact, his own daughter. The video end with a crumpled piece of paper, and suddenly, X's pupils appear, with the left pupil leaking a dark substance.
While the context of this video is limited, it is heavily implied that X has taken Alice's soul to his pocket dimension, resulting in her transformation into what is known as a Cream vessel, hence her becoming a rabbit at the end.
Sonic PC PORT[]
Lord X makes his first appearance in the game during Tails' last visit in Hill Zone. TBA.
SonicPC[]
In the start of the PC port game, he would be holding Tails with his hands, as the game would start. When Tails comes to the bridge, He will crash the game to say "Hello" and restart as a whole. It would restart to the Green Hill Zone but with dead animals and destroyed robots, with some of animals being skinned alive. Tails would walk until a black screen shows saying "Welcome Back!" as he laughs. As Green Hill turns into dark yellow and a image of lord X saying "I am God!". As Tails walks he finds "Sonic" and waves at him, Tails gets close to X and then he twists his head says "remember this?".
Hill would ignite into flames. Tails runs around the zone and then X chases up to him, Tails being scared, would run quickly as He could from X. His tails would be chopped of by of the trees and has run away from "X" from now on. Tails trips, music would play as Lord X would try to catch up to him and somewhat Lord X "wouldn't find him". Tails would walk back and stop when the hill becomes to big. Lord X finally founded him and grabbed him by the neck, and opens his mouth, until the game crashes.
As you reopen the game, The game seems normal until He turns into his true form and crashes or lags the game. The game would now be seen as a unauthorized copy of Sonic 1, but you can use the Noteboard files while playing the game. If you open the files, Lord X would want you stop it, as you can try multiple times, He will change into words such as "I AM GOD" until closing the game.
Appearance[]
In the year 2011, he looks nearly identical to that of Sonic the Hedgehog's Modern appearance in his primary form but with grey shoes, more contorted facial features and pitch black eyeballs with red glowing irises. His eyes constantly pour out a blood-like substance, but may sometimes not appear at all on him.
Later on in 2021, he has a slightly different appearance. He has blue-grayish fur, an 'X' shaped wound on his stomach and red eyes with black sclera. He also has dark-yellow teeth, whiskers and wears deformed black shoes. In his new faker form, he has naturally yellow teeth[5] and eyes that glow red in the dark. Because of how he distributes mass across his body, he has a naturally deformed appearance[6].
His voice also changes between forms. In 2011, he has a menacing, demonic-like voice reminiscent of his original counterpart. However, by 2021, he speaks in a more formal tone, sounding like an elderly human, though with a raspy quality.
His true form looks like a purple skeletal demon with four red eyes and huge horns.

X is a sadistic and cruel monster that possesses an instinctive lust for destruction and pain. He has immense interest in the human race and the Sonic the Hedgehog video game franchise, stealing the souls of people and putting them into the bodies of the franchise's characters. He sees humans as disposable puppets he can manipulate and torture for as long as he likes simply because he wields the power to do so.
X's signature trait is his interest in playing games. These games often serve as entertainment for X's sadism, being entirely rigged for the monster to win without a successful escape. X does not savor how inexperienced he is at game design[7].
Similar to that of a young child, he is also extremely short-tempered. When something is not played in X's favor, he can often become uncharacteristically impatient or angry. This is best shown in how when the player takes too long to move to the right, he will often just end up killing them on the spot out of sheer spite[8]. X loathes deital figures in the real world, often choosing to mock them[9].
By 2021, Sonic.exe (now going by Lord X) has matured greatly compared to his younger self. Despite still being extremely megalomaniacal and malicious, he now knows how to manipulate and scare people far better than before. Also, an equally important difference from his younger self is refinement and elegance. For example, he likes to play the piano[10], speaks in a formal tone and is not as impulsive as before. In his own words, X believes that killing people is an art, and does not like being compared to a savage beast.
Despite his bloodthirsty nature, X is intelligent and self-aware. He can manipulate people easily, creating worlds and levels in his twisted game. Furthermore, he sometimes being nice to his victims, although this is rare, and his brutal tortures are worse than death, overriding any friendliness.

Alan would be one of his main victims in both SONIC 2011 and Soulless Sonic. As the main player character (although he is self-aware, as shown in the original PC Port game), X wants to "play" with him by changing the zones into a hellish fire.

Friday Night Funkin': Sonic Legacy[]

Sonic.exe appears as the primary antagonist of the official[11] Friday Night Funkin' mod Sonic Legacy (under the false title RodentRap). In it, X starts off disguised in his Sonic the Hedgehog faker form in the song 2Torial. As you progress in the game, X will uncover his true appearance as he grows more and more impatient with Boyfriend.
Events and scenarios of the mod are non-canon to the storyline[12], but information about the character and worldbuilding are revealed under the Cult of X[13] member.
Friday Night Funkin': Vs. Sonic.exe[]

Lord X is the main antagonist of Sonic (PC Port) and Sonic (PC Port) Remake Demo and an antagonist from the Friday Night Funkin' Mod called Vs Sonic.Exe. He is one of many versions of Sonic.exe featured within the mod.
He was also featured in the Chaos Series mod as one of the main antagonists.
Friendly Enmity[]
Lord X is the main protagonist of the sprite animation video called Friendly Enmity by dooblajicoo. He is served as the main character of the sprite animation series.
Powers and Abilities[]
- VOID physiology: X is a Lovecraftian mass of antimatter that takes the appearance of the fictional Sega character Sonic the Hedgehog. He has a variety of otherworldly powers due to his cosmic nature, but he cannot exist in the human world for too long without being sucked back into his own pocket dimension. X allegedly has a limitless number of abilities[14].
- Reality warping: X can alter and bend reality around him, often being used in ways such as creating demonic plant life, teleporting short distances, turning water into blood, changing the environment and weather around him, creating and dissipating fires and smoke, and open interdimensional portals through a computer screen via the SONIC.EXE program/disc.
- Shapeshifting: X can change into multiple different forms. He has a "faker" form that looks nearly identical to that of Sonic the Hedgehog himself, an illusionary Dark form, and a true form made of pure VOID matter. As Lord X, he possesses a vessel of Sonic the Hedgehog and has a "Void" form, an "Internal" form that exists inside his vessel, and a true form.
- Black hole mouth: When X grows disinterested in a victim he plays with, he can open his jaw unnaturally wide and completely crush and erase their soul, never to be seen again.

- This incarnation of Sonic.exe replaced the original entity by Jack Craneley/Sir JC-the-Hyena as the definitive canonical version of the character, completely scrapping the original lore and replacing it with a similar, yet improved storyline. JoeDoughBoi refers to this incarnation as "the original".
- According to Tweets about Sonic.exe from JoeDoughBoi:
- He does not have a real name or birth name, as "Sonic.exe" (and subsequently, his shortened name "X") was a name given to him by individuals[1]. Like the original story, this is due to the game disc he accompanies, which is titled as such.
- He is genderless and likely would not conform to societal beliefs due to being a sentient mass of energy, but is often referred to under he/him pronouns[17].
- He supposedly has a limitless number of abilities, being incomparable to others in the series due to the pool and scope of his powers[14]. However, he can lose[18].
- He did not originally have a faker form[7] in the first game's events. This was later changed as he was revealed to have one in the Friday Night Funkin: Sonic Legacy mod and the official Sonic.exe iceberg[20].
- His victims do not become "EXEs" or slaves[7].
- The events of the remake take place in the year 2011[7], the year that Craneley first released the eponymous Creepypasta.
- He is inexperienced at making a good game and does not savor it[7].
- Sonic.exe possesses many differences from his Creepypasta counterpart:
- He seemingly doesn't possess any sort of homosexual attraction towards Sonic the Hedgehog, nor is he bisexual with a preference towards men.
- He lacks both his Plushie.exe form and the Seven Guardians. The latter seemingly has been reimagined into the Soulless Sonic canon.
- He does not seem to have a burning hatred for the character of Amy Rose.
- JoeDoughBoi has stated that none of the original Cult of X members (such as Shannon Goldman, The Father or Alice Sonato) will appear in the SONIC 2011 canon[21] due to them being self inserts of Craneley, his girlfriend Shannon Love, ASTRANOMICONX and many other people the former had interacted with.
- Although the game is meant to resemble the original Sonic the Hedgehog, X and Eggman's sprites are in the style of Sonic 3 & Knuckles. This is likely because both his 2011 and 2012 counterparts used this style.
- Back when the game was first uploaded, The game was originally listed just as a regular ROM of Sonic the Hedgehog being simply titled "SONIC" and the page showed screenshots of the game, this can be seen on SunFIRE's playthrough of the game, this was obviously done to trick the player into thinking it was just a normal Sonic game.
- It is heavily implied that the GameJolt user who posted SONIC 2011, GammaEpsilon, is actually X himself. The style of typing and the messages sent seem to imply that the original owner had attempted to warn people about the game before the account was completely taken over.
- The name "GammaEpsilon" is likely a reference to SheyGrell's fanmade Sonic.exe sequel Anti-Sonic.dll, in which X hijacks a Steam account named Gamma. The messages sent also references lines said by Kyle Scott in the original Creepypasta story.
- Midway though their segments, Tails, Knuckles, and Eggman's names change to Alan, Dave and Paul respectively. Alan and Dave are references to characters from JoeDoughBoi's Soulless Sonic series while Paul is a reference to a victim of X in Sonic.exe: Round 2.
- X's random voice lines after the I AM GOD screen in SONIC 2011 are both references to the original Creepypasta.
- "Ready for another round?" - A direct rephrasing on the infamous "Ready for round 2?" quote.
- "Keep this interesting for me." - Based on X's conversation to Tom, in which he says "Try to keep this interesting for me, Tom."
- Lord X has been the subject of various jokes and memes ever since his appearance in Vs. Sonic.exe 2.0 due to his poses looking "funny".
- One of the most popular memes of Lord X is "DIGA BYE BYE" from the Brazilian YouTuber Galaccine's lyric video on Cycles. Other popular memes of Lord X consist of images of his left pose with the text saying stuff like "get a load of this guy" or "balls".
- JoeDoughBoi has expressed his ire towards this, believing this contradicts how Lord X is meant to be portrayed seriously.[22]
- In the original prototypes of Sonic PC Port, Lord X would've had a more goat-like appearance, likely to reference the fact that goats are commonly used in Satanic imagery and many demons of folklore take goat-like appearances.
- Before the 2023 reboot, Lord X used to branch off from his JC counterpart, with the games happening after the two stories. However due to it being replaced, he is now an official continuation of the X introduced in SONIC 2011.
- Lord X has 7 guardians that each represent human emotions. These guardians are: Yokubo (Guardian of Desire), Kyofu (Guardian of Fear), Zetsubo (Guardian of Despair), Kofuku (Guardian of Joy), Gekido (Guardian of Rage), Ken'o (Guardian of Disgust), and Kito (Guardian of Prayer). All the guardians are extensions of Lord X himself, being the reason why they are all similar hedgehogs[23].
- Canonically, Lord X, MX (Formerly canon), Red Mist Squidward and Hypno aren't friends.[24]. This friendship is relegated only in Fanon.
- X will only interacts with a exe that are canon to his series, such as Bandado and Lord Mortis, while he hates other exes. It was the reason why he is egotistical.[25]
- There is a what-if situation during "EXE-Tober". If X choose a different game instead of the original 1991 game of Sonic The Hedgehog to use as a conduit, then he would take a form of different characters, such as Alex Kidd, Vectorman, and Ecco. As a result, X has different traits, although he is still the same person.[26]
