| “ | There's a piece of the human mind that responds to fear and violence, almost positively. You're shown suffering in each other, behind the safety of a TV screen that separates you from what feels like a different world. It's the means to watch everything happen around you. You may say something is tragic, but human nature is not sincere. It's the way it was since your kind was still banging rocks together, gathering around the fires they only just discovered. You all have a hunter's instinct to enjoy the death of others. The truth is that deep down, you don't actually care all that much. Not when it isn't happening to you. Some, you might say, even enjoy it. Would that be you? Are you worth the attention? If you enjoy the pain of someone's last breath, what if the person who is you? Is your instinct genuine? Or are you just another weak pathetic soul that's all talk? There won't be no more hiding. No more illusion of safety given by the boundaries of a TV or monitor. Something wicked this way comes and you will be found. I am your demise. I am the end. I... ...AM... ...GOD. And you're next. |

Sonic.exe (sometimes formatted as Sonic.EXE), mostly known as X, is the titular main antagonist of the infamous creepypasta series of the same name created by Jack Cranely (also known online as Sir JC-the-Hyena).
He is an anomalous, extra-dimensional entity driven by an instinctive lust for destruction and pain. Born out of pure dark matter, X only began to acquire a physical form after learning about the world and the human race. He chose the appearance of Sonic the Hedgehog, being a major fan of the series and especially the titular character. Completely obsessed with enslaving the human race, X created an abstract CD-ROM copy of the original Sega Genesis game, which acts as a portal separating his dimension from Earth. Since then, he has used his cult to pass the game from victim to victim, hoping to one day use it to merge the two realms together and rule the human world and other worlds as a god.
The character and his story was infamously panned ever since its release. Due to controversies surrounding JC's activities online, ownership of the character was transferred between ASTRANOMICONX and JoeDoughBoi, creating two different characters from it respectively.
His official voice actor was SheyGrell, who later went on to voice another version of X.
Appearance
Sonic.exe closely resembles the original Sonic, but there are some noticeable differences. His fur and quills are dark blue, his skin is sickly grayish, and he wears gray shoes instead of Sonic's iconic red shoes. When he smiles, his mouth unnaturally widens, revealing yellow, fanged teeth. According to JC, the yellow teeth are not due to tooth decay, but is a side effect of his creation. His sclera is pitch black, with two glowing red dots for irises and very small pupils. Notably, Exe always appears to have blood under his eyes, even when he's not crying. This blood is actually a significant birthmark. After creating his body, his eyes experienced intense pain, causing them to bleed. As a result, a faint but visible rash formed beneath his eyes from excessive bleeding.
When Sonic.exe is in his disguised form, he looks identical to the real Sonic. However, in his semi-disguised form, he begins to exhibit subtle changes that resemble a combination of his disguised and physical forms. In his semi-disguised form, he undergoes changes that are similar to his disguised form and physical form.
In his Dark EXE form, Sonic.exe's body takes on a grayish-black appearance with static effects running through him. A prominent red "X" mark appears on his abdomen. He uses this form to torment Knuckles, particularly when Knuckles attempts to land a punch on him.
In his plush form, Sonic.exe takes the appearance of a standard Sonic plush toy. The only differences are his bloodstained red eyes and the bloodstains beneath them. This form appears toward the end of the creepy pasta and, according to Sir JC, acts as a spy for X.
In his true EXE form, he undergoes a massive transformation. He develops a more muscular physique and appears much taller compared to his Sonic-based forms, where he matches Sonic's canonical height of 3'3". In this form, he wears a signature outfit consisting of a sleeveless, short-legged, skin-tight spandex suit in purple and black. The suit is adorned with a black fur collar around the neck, leading to an emblem of his own design. The emblem resembles a blue demonic smiley face with four large red ribbons forming an "X." Around his waist, Exe dons a black and gold-lined cloak, secured by a black leather belt featuring a red "X" buckle. His knee-high boots have a gothic design, with two belts on the back and glowing purple lights under the heels and soles, suggesting the presence of anti-gravity devices. His gloves are fingerless with purple lining around the finger holes, and the cuffs are large and cup-shaped, resembling Tails' gloves but without any straps.
In his true form, Sonic.exe appears as a giant, shapeless mass of pure Dark Matter with two glowing red dots for eyes. This form, referred to as X's true form, can inflict severe damage upon contact, as stated in the "Five Forms of Sonic.exe". Despite being his most dangerous form in terms of "evil energy" and contact damage, it is also considered his weakest. JC explains that this form’s physical damage output is much lower compared to his other forms. Additionally, it reduces Exe to an animal-like instinct, where his only focus is self-preservation. In this state, Exe wouldn’t hesitate to attack anyone who comes near him, as stated in the "Five Forms of Sonic.exe".
Personality
| “ | This Sonic was a monster, a pure evil, sadistic, all-powerful, nightmarish, demented monster... And all of his victims, including Tails, Knuckles, Robotnik and possibly Kyle, are just his little toys, and the game is the very gateway into his chaotic, nightmarish world and the very Hell his victims are trapped in. | „ |
| ~ Tom describing Sonic.exe. |
The personification and literal physical incarnation of insanity and evil itself, Sonic.exe is warped, vicious, sadistic, ruthless, heartless and incredibly cruel. An anarchist by nature, Sonic.exe strays from the original Sonic the Hedgehog's jovial and heroic personality and instead being known for his unrelenting sadism and psychopathic nature, preferring to mentally torture and degrade his victims before robbing them of their souls and freedom. A literal and metaphorical monster, Sonic.exe's overall goal is to conquer everything in sight no matter how many innocent lives he has to sacrifice in order to achieve what he wants. He takes sadistic pleasure in creating chaos and misery, as well as tormenting and abusing his victims, torturing them in their sleep by invading their dreams to warn them of his coming presence. Sonic.exe is also a master manipulator, as he was able to manipulate both Kyle and Tom into playing the game, as well as being the leader of the Cult of X, pointing to him being quite charismatic as well. However, he can use Sonic's real form whenever he feels like to give his victims a false sense of security.
Sonic.exe's primary weakness is his overall childish nature when faced with failure or concepts he disagrees with. His obsession with Sonic has gone as far as to make him despise others who dislike Sonic (though this is quite hypocritical since he dislikes Sonic when he does not act the way Sonic.exe wants him to). This supposed admiration for Sonic is not genuine however as he is only interested in Sonic's acts of heroism rather than any true care for the hedgehog. On rare occasions has Sonic.exe demonstrated how violent and hostile he can be at times when he doesn't get his way, often culminating in him throwing a violent, rage-filled tantrum due to not 'winning' his games. Sonic.exe is also incredibly egotistical, callous and arrogant. A complete narcissist who sees himself above everyone, Sonic.exe sees humans as disposable puppets he can manipulate and torture for as long as he likes simply because he wields the power to do so.
Biography
Background
X was accidentally created in the void in a gap between dimension, making him an outsider to the universe, during a cataclysm involving primordial dark energy. This energy coalesced into a sentient mass of dark matter with two glowing red eyes. For a time, X aimlessly flew around the void until he discovered a "window" that revealed both the human world and Sonic's world.
Fascinated by what he saw, particularly the Sonic the Hedgehog series, he used his dark powers to mold a physical form resembling Sonic, his chosen idol. After creating his body, his eyes experienced excruciating pain and began to bleed, leaving a distinguishable birthmark. Despite the immense pain, X remained unshaken, instead breaking into laughter similar to that of Kefka's for the first time. His laughter echoed through the void, a testament that X had been born as something that could only be described as pure evil.
X decided that all living creatures on Earth; namely humans, were meant to be under his control. He believed he was born to claim humanity for himself and himself alone, until the very end of time. However, he realized that in order to keep his slaves, he needed a place to contain them; a world where, in his twisted view, they would live forever in harmony with him as their king, a place where he could reign as a god.
This realization led him to discover his true power: the ability to manipulate reality in any way he desires. With his reality-warping abilities, X created his own dimension in a matter of hours. The layout of this world was built by crafting "rooms" within it, many of which were modeled after levels from the Sonic the Hedgehog video games.
After building his entire universe, X became increasingly egomaniacal, viewing his creative powers as unrivaled and superior to all else. He was eager to bring humanity under his control and showcase the "wonderful" world he had created, convinced it would impress and captivate them. However, X soon discovered a significant obstacle: he did not truly exist in the human universe due to being an outsider of the universe. This limitation prevented him from accessing the human world directly. Nevertheless, he found that he could channel some of his dark powers into the human realm, enabling him to search for a way to achieve full access.
Sonic.exe
The original Sonic.exe story centers on Tom, a young man who was a big fan of Sonic the Hedgehog, especially the older games. He claimed that he had not played any glitched or hacked games before, though he admitted that he did not want to after an experience he had.
He then proceeded to recount his experience, saying how he received a CD and an accompanying letter from his friend Kyle, begging him to destroy the disc before it's "too late" and to "never play the game"
Ignoring his friend's warnings, Tom played the game and began to encounter odd, somewhat disturbing phenomena, from a title card featuring an evil-looking Sonic with bloody eyes and glowing pupils with a wide smile to the presence of a file select screen similar to that of the one in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, with a red background and chilling music playing.
As he picked the only available character Tails and began the first stage titled "HILL ACT 1", Tom continued to find more evidence that there was something wrong with the game, namely the copious amounts of dead animals, all murdered in gruesome ways and eventually encountering Sonic at the end of the level, standing completely still and with his eyes closed.
When Tails attempted to get his attention during a cutscene by tapping him on the shoulder, Sonic's eyes opened, identical to the evil Sonic on the title screen before cutting to black, with the message "Hello. Do you want to play with me?" In the next level, "HIDE AND SEEK", Tom witnessed Sonic chasing Tails, the former flying despite an inability to do so without a Super form, before disappearing, teleporting in front of the distraught fox and killing him and cutting to black. Tails screams as his throat is slit; a splash of blood is seen coming from his neck.
Shocked, Tom reads the next message, "YOU'RE TOO SLOW. WANT TO TRY AGAIN?". After playing as Knuckles and losing a supposed "boss battle" with Sonic, with Knuckles dying the same way as Tails, Tom decided to take a break from the game.
However, his rest was plagued by nightmares featuring the corrupted Tails and Knuckles, and the demonic Sonic, with him waking in a cold sweat. Returning to the game, Tom picked Dr. Robotnik from the file select screen and continued with the game.
At the end of the level, Sonic teleported in front of Robotnik, before the screen cut to red static. Then, a "hyper realistic" image of Sonic appeared on the screen, with the words "I AM GOD!". This Sonic had bleeding black and red eyes, a very wide grin, and sharp bloodstained teeth. In a split second, Sonic then lunged at the computer screen with his mouth unnaturally wide open, revealing a spiraling abyss of darkness before the red static returned, leaving Tom horrified.
The screen went black once more. Tom stared at the screen, and a final message appeared: "Ready for Round 2, Tom?". The main menu loaded, but all three characters were corrupted, causing Tom to cry in despair. His computer shut down, and despite his attempts to restart it, nothing worked.
Realizing his mistake in ignoring his friend Kyle's advice, Tom tried to eject the disc to destroy it, but it was stuck. As Tom lamented Sonic's evil side, he heard a whisper behind him: "Try to keep this interesting for me, Tom."
He turned around to find, to his utter horror, a bloodied Sonic plush doll on his bed. In an attempt to escape X's wrath, Tom decided to commit suicide by hanging himself. However, it was already too late, as Exe had claimed his soul just before he took his final breath.
Round 2
The sequel/prequel of Sonic.exe centers around a young detective named Derek Green investigating the murders committed by an unknown entity.
The next installment of Sonic.exe takes us on a journey with Detective Derek Green, a young and determined investigator. Together with his sister Chelsea, they delve into the dark and twisted world of murders committed by an unknown entity. However, things take a sinister turn when Chelsea is captured by the notorious Exe, leading to Derek being mysteriously removed from the case. But that doesn't deter him from seeking justice and rescuing his sister. Undeterred by his removal from the case, Derek goes on a secret mission to discover the truth behind each murder committed by Exe.
As he delves deeper into the investigation, paranoia begins to consume him, making him question the loyalty of everyone around him. It is during this time that Derek encounters a mysterious contact named "Cole," who reveals the shocking revelation that the Cult is behind the entire conspiracy. Furthermore, Cole informs Derek that Chelsea is trapped in Exe's twisted realm. Determined to save his sister and put an end to Exe's reign of terror, Derek's relentless pursuit leads him straight into the clutches of the Cult.
Confronted by one of the Cult Leaders, Shannon Goldman, Derek's hope lies in destroying the game disk that has caused so much suffering. However, his efforts prove futile as Shannon reveals the Cult's contingency plan - multiple copies of the disk. Ultimately, Exe is summoned by Shannon and steals Derek's soul, leaving him trapped in a nightmarish existence. Three weeks later, Derek's boss receives a message from Cole, who filled him in on what happened.
Sonic.exe: Alice
During the events of Round 2, The Father and Shannon Goldman took Alice Wilson in as a daughter and a member of the Cult of X.
Alice as a musician who was extraordinarily talented at playing the violin, in which she does her own sheet music to play with and demonstrate to the cult. Alice was misguided and fed with positive teachings of X's cruel ways and beliefs, though overtime, she witnessed X in action as he took the souls of others and controlled the cult along with The Father. Alice, after witnessing Derek's loss and the true secret behind The Father's glasses and X's influence, Alice publicly admitted to denying X's ways while knowing she was next to be sacrificed. She was then sacrificed to X, being taken away into his world to a part that he called "wonderland".

Trivia
- He was created by JC the Hyena, who was inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft and Stephen King.
- In August of 2021, JC was exposed for predatory behavior towards minors alongside his ex-girlfriend, Shannon Love, whom he had emotionally abused and conditioned into believing his behavior was acceptable. Since then, both have relinquished their ownership to Astranomicon and JoeDoughBoi, the latter being the creator of Sonic PC Port while the former worked on a new canon.
- Prior to having his origins revealed, it was widely believed that in terms of the lore, Sonic.exe was a demon possessing Sonic the Hedgehog. This turned out to be false, however, as the two are canonically separate entities.
- It is also worth noting that Sonic.exe idolizes Sonic to the point of obsession.
- Sonic.exe's favorite food is a bowl of meatballs with tomato sauce and sliced pickles. The pickles serve as side humor for his character since it was mainly based on Mr. Krabs' description of a soul in the SpongeBob Halloween Episode "Scaredy Pants".
- Sonic.exe hates Amy Rose with a fiery passion because he sees her as a threat to him having Sonic all to himself.
- He also dislikes anyone who likes Amy Rose as well.
- Prior to the first Creepy pasta, as stated in Kyle's letter, it was suggested that Kyle was the first and previous victim of Sonic.exe. The same fate would happen with Tom.
- Though initially well received by the Creepy pasta community, the story (along with Sonic.exe himself) has recently met a more negative critical reception, due to the overuse of horror clichés. YouTube channel MichaelLeroi read both the original and the sequel, giving both very bad reviews, in addition to both stories being removed from Creepy pasta Wiki for "failing to meet quality standards" and moved to Troll pasta Wiki, which resulted in a slightly controversial reaction from J.C. The Hyena, the author of the stories, was also met with high criticism, which he has since retracted. The story and video feature heavy use of "hyper-realism" and overused shock value and jump scares, which have become clichés and are now considered a no-no. Stories about "haunted games and videos" are no longer being accepted as a result, due to the typically negative reactions towards these Pastas.
- Before 2013, this version of the character used to look exactly like his in-game counterpart however Cranely would change X's design to feature gray shoes and darker fur.
- Sonic.exe is somewhat similar to the Super Sonic of Fleetway's Sonic the Comic series, being a more powerful but evil, possibly demonic version of the character, though that Super Sonic was still Sonic (making him all that much scarier), whereas Sonic.exe is an entity taking Sonic's likeness. He is also similar to "Dark Sonic" from the TV series "Sonic X", when Sonic becomes enraged and power-hungry.
- X shares similarities with Mephiles from Sonic 06, as both characters take on forms resembling Sonic and Shadow, respectively. X took the form of the original Sonic, mimicking his appearance and integrating it into his own body. Mephiles, on the other hand, forms his physical body by absorbing Shadow's shadow, which explains why his appearance closely resembles Shadow.
- X can flatten his body if his body was about to be crushed.
- The amount of blood Sonic.exe cries has caused a faint rash under his eyes. It is unknown exactly why his eyes bleed.
- Despite what many think, the cause of Sonic.exe's yellow teeth is one of the few side effects when his body was made and is possible the darker fur and gray shoes are a side effect as well. However, the blood on his mouth strongly implies that he eats the remains of his victims after taking their souls.
- A video of the "game" appeared on YouTube in 2012, with the "sequel" Sally.exe appearing about two years later.
- Sally.exe is not canon, however, the design for Sally's Victim form is, On that note. The original Sally.exe creepy pasta is rip off of an old video by Chinelin
- Although the player has some control over Knuckles, the game will auto-fail and result in each "playable" character's gruesome demise. The corpses are shown behind TV static on the character selection screen, implying that Sonic.exe has corrupted and enslaved them.
- Even though Sonic.exe is incredibly strong and immortal, his real form is just as strong but weak in defense.
- There are many fan games that are based on him and many different variants. The most popular variation is Exetior, the alternate-reality counterpart of the original and titular main antagonist of the Sonic.exe: Nightmare Beginning series developed by JaizKoys. Another variation based on the original Creepy pasta story appeared in the sequel of the bad ending with the name Sark, but these versions are demons (although Exetior used to be one of the highests beforming becoming an arch-demon) while the real Sonic.exe (despite his similar abilities) is not a demon, but rather a sentient entity made out of Dark Matter created in the Void.
- On January 13th, 2017, the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account tweeted "Watch out for black cats today. No one is immune. #Friday13th", which featured a short video of Sonic transforming into Sonic.exe and the background turning into a bloody version of Green Hill Zone.
- This article was originally going to be in the Villains Wiki but was soon moved here.
- Sonic.EXE is set to appear in the 2023 fan animated film, Sonic Villains as an antagonist.
- His personality and character have undergone some change. Rather than being an obsessive and feral beast, he acts more like a tactical and poise supervillain. He's also an actual .exe program instead of an extraterrestrial.
- After JC was exposed, Crimson, developer of the 2012 Sonic.EXE game, disassociated itself from any connection to the lore made by Cranely, with the Sonic.EXE in its games now being a distinct entity.
- It is believed that Blue Flash Drive/El Pendrive Azul was one of the main sources of inspiration for Sonic.exe or that Sonic.exe was clone of it, due to the similarities between the stories, since Blue debuted some time before Sonic.EXE Creepy pasta, however, it is not very clear if it is real or simple coincidence since both were created at the time when it was common to create Creepy pastas, even so the similarities are remarkable.
- Sinuois, creator of Pendrive, has mentioned that this is possibly a mere coincidence.
- It is probably true because Cranely obviously didn't even know Spanish.
- Sinuois, creator of Pendrive, has mentioned that this is possibly a mere coincidence.
- If someone teleport behind him and say “Hello~”, he would French-kiss them to creep them out. (I wish this wasn’t true, but it is.)
- Sonic.exe is mentioned in the novel Ready Player Two.
- Being a monster made out of dark matter from the Void, Sonic.exe has shown to committed each of the seven deadly sins throughout the series:
- Pride — Essentially. his most defining sin, Sonic.exe's prideful attitude is mostly evident throughout the series. At the near end of the game in the first Creepy pasta, he boldly called himself "God" before lunging at Tom's computer screen. Not to mention, he gathered a cult of followers who worship him, all while plotting to take over the world and claim humanity for himself.
- Wrath — He has a fierce temper that often leads to violent outbursts. If things don’t go his way, he can throw a rage-filled tantrum, especially when he feels he’s losing in his games. He also harbors a strong dislike for anyone who hates Sonic the Hedgehog.
- Lust — He seems to be obsessed with Sonic, loving him to an extreme. However, he gets upset when Sonic doesn’t behave the way he wants. His admiration isn’t real; he only cares about Sonic’s heroic actions, not the hedgehog himself.
- Gluttony — Although not shown in the series, the blood on his mouth and teeth implies that Sonic.exe may have eaten the remains of dead animals from the corrupted version of the original Sonic the Hedgehog game. Additionally, when he grows uninterested with his victims, he opens his mouth wide to devour their souls, killing them instantly.
- Envy — Sonic.exe has a strong hatred for gods who are more powerful than he is. He even argues with Flowey from Undertale about who is the "more badass god," as seen in one of Cranely's comics, although this is most likely non-canon.
- Greed — He collects the souls of his victims to play with and wants to gain more power to become even stronger.
- Sloth — Sonic.exe has grown tired of hunting victims himself, so he created the Seven Guardians, which are like extensions of himself. They go out and find victims while he waits.
