The Space Kaiju are a major antagonistic force in the grimdark Touhou fan-animation Koishi Komeiji's Heart-Throbbing Adventure.
They are the mutated remains of Gensokyo’s population, transformed into colossal monsters after exposure to the Lunarians’ insanity ray and subsequently expelled into the Outside World following the destruction of the Great Hakurei Barrier. Their global rampage leads to mass casualties before they are exterminated by the Lunarians’ Combat Vijoka as part of the Moonlight Descent Ceremony.
Biography[]
After the Moon’s rise on October 4th, every surviving inhabitant of Gensokyo mutates into a kaiju due to directly exposure to the Moon’s insanity. Amidst this, Flandre Scarlet, who is manipulated by Koakuma influence, destroys the Great Hakurei Barrier. This collapses Gensokyo entirely and forcibly ejects its population into the Outside World, instantly killing roughly 5% of the global population upon arrival.
The scattered kaiju begin rampaging across major population centers worldwide. In response, the Lunarians deploy their Combat Vijoka units, each designed to counter specific kaiju types. Most encounters end in Vijoka victories, steadily reducing kaiju numbers.
By the end of the campaign, only two kaiju remain before the Lunarians complete their objective and finalize the Moonlight Descent Ceremony. These last survivors are revealed to be Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame, who retain their sanity despite their mutated forms. The two launch a final suicidal charge against Watatsuki no Yorihime, successfully killing her. Their deaths allowing the Moonlight Descent Ceremony to proceed to its next stage.
