Sparky the Dog is a character created by Tumblr users kodiabear and nguyen based around the 2014 video game Five Nights at Freddy's and spread as an urban legend/hoax within the community.

History[]

Sparky the Dog was created by Tumblr users kodiabear and nguyen. The character was purported to be a secret, hidden sixth character in the original Five Nights at Freddy's game from 2014.^[1] Included with the story was a manipulated screenshot of the alleged character, which was created using Adobe Photoshop.^[2] The character allegedly would only appear in the Parts and Service room by the door.

Sparky the Dog served as an urban legend in the gaming community. Even after being revealed by its creators as a hoax, there remained a sizable fan following for the character.^[3]

The character of Sparky may have later inspired the character Fetch in the official Five Nights at Freddy's novel Fazbear Frights: Fetch by creator of the series, Scott Cawthon.

Sparky was officially recognized/referenced in the ClickteamLLC's "7 Years Of FNaF's Amazing Fanbase" anniversary video, appearing as broken/withered animatronic and staring at us with Five Nights at Freddy's 1 animatronics. He is also appears in the 2023 film adaptation Five Nights at Freddy's, appearing as a broken-down dog animatronic in the back room of the restaurant.^[4]

As shown by one of his original creators, Sparky is an anthropmorphic dog animatronic with brown fur. He has a long snout and two long ears which drop to the side, giving him resemblance to a labrador dog. Sparky's most notable traits are his large pink tongue, his blue overalls, and his missing right arm. He also has a short fuzzy tail and 4 fangs in his mouth. His eyebrows, right ear, and a patch of hair around his left eye are a dull yellow color, while his eyes are a deep green coloration.

Movie[]

In the Five Night's At Freddy's movie by Blumhouse, He looks significantly different. His head is structured more closely to Bonnie or Freddy, with black eyebrows, a black patch around his left eye, two black ears, bold orange eyes, and a red collar with a golden bone medallion.

Trivia[]

Sparky is also implied to be a paranormal entity outside of the game's world, causing any attempted screenshot to become pure black, and in one report, apparently stares at the player before disappearing. ^[5]^[6]
Supposedly, Sparky was meant to be a scrapped animatronic in the Kitchen, yet somehow managed to remain in the game. ^[7]
In the Five Nights At Freddy's movie, there is a coffee shop named after Sparky. This, coupled with Sparky's presence in the backroom of the building, leads some to believe that at some point, Sparky was an animatronic.
- This marks first instance of an fan character to appear iin offical media.
Sparky makes a brief cameo in Clickteam Studio's video celebrating 7 Years of FNAF and it's community in the form of a fanmade render using his UFMP Design.^[8]
Fanmade depictions of Sparky are often used to represent the dog animatronic from the Creepypasta Funland.
