William Afton, better known as Purple Guy and Springtrap, is the main antagonist of the EthGoesBOOM YouTube channel. Similar to the main canon, he is much of a neutral character compared to the official story, as he is a manipulative murderer who antagonises the Animatronics and only triggered by any forms of bloodlust and attempts to prevent anyone who gets in his way of his schemes, he serves as the main antagonist of the Fazbear Massacre/FNAF 3 arc, the FNAF 2 series (as Purple Guy), and the final three UCN let's plays. He is also the father of Circus Baby and the archenemy of the Classic Animatronics, particularly Freddy Fazbear, Fredbear and his good counterpart, SpringBonnie.
Like everyone else, he is voiced by EthGoesBOOM, though he was formerly voiced by WhackyCast, who also formerly voiced Nightmare.
Personality[]
Throughout most of the channel's beginnings, Springtrap's role was rather minuscule, mainly due to him mostly having a voice actor from a different channel, who started voicing less and less. During this era, Springtrap enjoyed playing horror games and swore a lot.
In his villainous era, Purple Guy is shown to be a manipulative and evil man, finding ways to ruin the lives of the animatronics, particularly keeping an eye out for Golden Freddy and the Puppet. This included manipulating the AI of the animatronics to secretly make them more aggressive, eventually leading to him programming Mangle to attack a child, which proved one of the most scarring moments for the animatronics, to the point where Golden Freddy and the Puppet had to while their memories of the event.
In the present day, Springtrap retains his murderous intent, hating on the animatronics for keeping him locked in the safe room. However, he does have a soft and comedic spot, particularly for his axe, Tracy. He is also unironically good friends with JJ, even before he escaped the safe room, as the two spoke here and there while JJ was hiding the the vents and shadows. In fact, even during the FNAF 3 series, he listened to JJ when she told him to stop calling her Balloon Girl. Springtrap is also shown to be rather irritable, as he constantly crawled into sealed vents to his frustration.
Following the undoing of the events of the Fazbear Massacre, Springtrap shows a new side to him. While mostly lacking remorse, he does prove to be more human than his canon counterpart, as he genuinely loves and misses his daughter, even rarely become open to anyone that treats him well (notably J.J) who convinced everyone about Spring trap’s redeeming factors, proving he can resist his urge to kill. As a result, Springtrap was safely let out of the safe room periodically. That being said Springtrap is shown an awareness towards his own villainy, accepting to be incarcerated in the vents. Springtrap does still retain his villainy, as he is part of a group known as the League of Indie Villains. However, he proves to be the softest of the group, as when he desire to presumably kill BB and JJ for breaking his axe, the other villains turned away in annoyance.
Overall, as Purple Guy, Afton is taken 100% seriously, as all his crimes and actions have almost no comedy in them or surrounding them. As Springtrap, he starts off much more murderous, but does admit to having somewhat of a soft side (liking cupcakes, befriending JJ, naming his axe, and considering a new leaf while playing the deceptively cute The Littlest Penguin game).
History[]
Past[]
William Afton, known as Purple Guy by the animatronics, was one of the owners of Fazbear Entertainment and the owner of Afton Robotics. Prior to opening the era of Freddy Fazbear, Purple Guy presumably also created Fredbear's Family Diner, which contained Fredbear (currently known as Golden Freddy) and Spring Bonnie. Purple Guy also created Circus Baby's Pizza World, which his daughter was very attached to. She sadly died to the lead animatronic, Circus Baby, filling Purple Guy with immense grief that haunts him to this day. During the run of Fredbear's, Purple Guy presumably started a murder spree on children behind the scenes (The Jolly 2 videos suggest this was because William merged with the Funtime animatronics, however, this conflicts with the main canon, as it was actually his son, Michael who merged with the Funtime animatronics), which likely got the attention of Fredbear and the Puppet. After another tragedy at Fredbear's, it closed down as well, leading to the opening of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, where the Puppet would return to the establishment to foil his plans. After some time, Freddy suffered a major breakdown, causing Purple Guy to shut them down.
Later, a new Freddy Fazbear's Pizza was opened, featuring the Toy animatronics, while the old broken animatronics were thrown in the parts and services room. Purple Guy specifically designed the Toy animatronics to be aggressive and distracted from the true murderer. As time went on, Purple Guy continued to mess with the AI of the animatronics, though he ran into a snag with Toy Freddy. As their glitches got worse, and the Puppet was building the morale for the good guys with the creation of JJ to spy of Purple Guy and giving the Cupcake godly power, Purple Guy snuck in disguised as Shadow Freddy to "fix" their glitches, while truthfully making their glitches worse and making them even more aggressive. However, Golden Freddy reveals another cupcake with the same godly power. With the animatronics now able to cleanse all glitches, Purple Guy reveals his trump card glitch, which made Mangle so aggressive, she attacked a child, traumatizing everyone, especially the Puppet. Ultimately, Purple Guy gets away as the restaurant was about to close, but Golden Freddy and the Puppet decide to wipe their friend's memories of the entire establishment. to undo everything Purple Guy did to them. However, these actions of wiping everyone's memories would lead to their confusion of the old location in the modern day, one that would particularly come into play with Candy the Cat.
Some time later, Purple Guy got trapped and mutilated in a Spring Bonnie suit, though given the channel's lore, it's unknown what the circumstances were to cause this, though it's likely Golden Freddy and the Puppet had to do with it. Some time later, Springtrap was found, recognized, and locked in the safe room, where he would grow resentful and hateful of the animatronics for what they did to him.
Present[]
In the present day, Springtrap had been mostly quiet, the canonical reason being that he is a serial killer that the animatronics don't want to interact with. He does occasionally play games within his safe room, but he can't do much. Following his let's play of FNAF World (which the animatronics agreed to because the viewers wanted it), Springtrap escaped the pizzeria with no one realizing it, where he would plan his massacre on the animatronics, something that got his friend JJ's attention to warn everyone, albeit it turned a bit late due to her extreme shyness.
Meanwhile, Springtrap considered reforming himself and not kill the animatronics, until he played The Littlest Penguin, which made him interested in killing again. When Springtrap sneaks back into the pizzeria to enact his plan, he meets Plushtrap, who was interested in joining him. Springtrap coldly rejected him for being a kid, as Plushtrap swore revenge on him.
The Fazbear Massacre[]
JJ's warning turned out to be in vain, as during Freddy's let's play of Chipper and Sons Lumber Co., Springtrap broke in and murdered Freddy. He later also killed Foxy, Chica, Cupcake, Mangle, BB, and the Puppet, all of which became mindless phantoms under Springtrap's control. The survivors fled the pizzeria to the old FNAF 2 location, leaving Springtrap behind and alone as the place closed down. About 30 years later, Fazbear's Fright is about to open, and an emotionally broken and traumatized Bonnie is sent to the place to play FNAF 3, which was given the ability to also intertwine with the real world, with the secret mini games being the way to free the souls of those who died. However, it is revealed in Night 2 that Springtrap was brought to Fazbear's Fright as the lead animatronic attraction. Springtrap manages to get in on the walkie talkie, where he would constantly taunt Bonnie, as well as attempt to kill him and sick his phantoms on him. This would continue with Toy Freddy and JJ's visits, the former having his crumpets and tea stolen, and the latter being taunted for their past relationship and her name. During this era, Springtrap took control of the channel and did the updates to Sister Location for the viewers.
In Night 5, Plushtrap decides to take the shift as revenge for Springtrap rejecting him, despite Springtrap's taunts into calling Plushtrap a good guy. The night proves to be intense, as Springtrap comes extremely close to killing Plushtrap, outright getting into the office and behind Plushtrap, but he manages to barely survive and is satisfied seeing Purple Guy's mutilation in the Spring Bonnie suit. However, as Plushtrap leaves, unknown to everyone, Night 6 had to be taken care of too, with Golden Freddy taking care of it. The night turns out to be just as difficult, with Springtrap claiming he has a plan if Golden Freddy wins. During the night, Springtrap taunts Golden Freddy by calling him Fredbear, and briefly having Circus Baby whisper through him. As Golden Freddy is about to win, Springtrap burns the building down, intending to take Golden Freddy down with him. However, the phantoms are freed thanks to the game being complete, and Golden Freddy survives, while Springtrap presumably escapes. Using Golden Freddy's box, the animatronics time traveled back to before the massacre happened, where they took care of Springtrap ahead of time, canonically preventing the Fazbear Massacre.
Redemption[]
Later in the year come Christmas time, Springtrap felt sad and alone, particularly missing his daughter, something that got JJ's attention. Springtrap then told JJ his whole origin. As a result, the animatronics let Springtrap out of the safe room for the day under certain conditions, which he was happy about. He was also given the opportunity to be able to make more videos and chat with the others within his safe room. Since then, Springtrap became a much more recurring character in the series, while also retaining his villainous traits, becoming somewhat of a fan favorite.
Chaos on Tracy[]
During the final three Ultimate Custom Night let's plays, BB and JJ would spread some chaos for fun, which would mindless lead them to break Springtrap's precious axe, Tracy. Springtrap vowed to get revenge of the kids, getting his League of Indie Villains to help. However, they reject his help when they found out his petty reason for revenge. Springtrap's plan then gets the attention of the Puppet, which leads to him telling BB and JJ about what they have done. The three find the broken Tracy and repair it, as well as the Puppet giving Tracy life, which Springtrap is happy with as he forgives the two.
Possible Future[]
Evidently, in the far future, Springtrap would relapse back into his villainous ways and become Scraptrap, where he would team up with his equally demented daughter.

Five Nights at Eth's[]

In an alternate timeline, following the Fazbear Massacre being prevented, Springtrap contacted Nightmare to curse the animatronics, leading them to attack their creator, Eth. In the end, Eth breaks the spell and sends Springtrap and Nightmare to the past to have them killed by the Scooper. Alternatively, Eth would've killed the two, but not saved his friends, or Springtrap and Nightmare would've killed Eth.
He is nicknamed the Demon Rabbit in this game.
The Fazbear Massacre (game)[]

In an alternate take on the Fazbear Massacre, Springtrap plays mostly the same role as he did in the FNAF 3 series. The main difference being that he is much more direct with dealing with him, and there exist endings where he wins.

Trivia[]
- Springtrap's first appearance in his lets play of FNAF 2 had him voiced by Eth. Following this until FNAF World, Springtrap was voiced by WhackyCast, who gave the character a Doctor Claw styled voice. In time, however, the videos featuring Whacky's voice were set to private, though some archive footage still lives on in the compilation videos, as well as the TF2 video and the reused audio from the Puppet's FNAF World video. Eth later reprised his role as Springtrap starting with Springtrap's FNAF World video, giving him a similar voice he had originally, but now deeper and with an effect.
- His opening catchphrase since the very beginning is "Hello everyone out there on the internet." This implies he isn't too familiar with the internet.
- In the Jolly 2 videos, due to the initial confusion of Sister Location's story, Springtrap's origin story was treat like he was the protagonist of Sister Location, even though it has been confirmed he wasn't, with FNAF 6 clarifying this. This blunder has been ignored, though Springtrap still is friends with the animatronics and the events in the Jolly 2 videos are still mentioned here and there, but Springtrap's backstory has either been retconned to the main canon or mostly ignored.
- Furthermore, during the Jolly 2 videos, Springtrap says "I have no idea where my father is, but I swear I'll find him one day..." This refers to the final Sister Location cutscene, where Michael tells his father that he will find him. Ironically however, Springtrap himself was the father Michael was referring to.
- Springtrap has a positive reaction to seeing Ennard and sometimes Circus Baby, but he has little to no reaction to working with Scrap Baby, who is meant to be his daughter, though Scrap Baby does call him "dad of the past."
- Additionally, when reacting to Sister Location before its release (the reactions taking place during the FNAF 3 series where only Springtrap could realistically react due to the status of everyone else), Springtrap treated Baby like she was any other villain in the series rather than his daughter, even comparing her potential villainy with his own. It’s implied that Springtrap caught onto what really happened by watching the FNAF 3 videos on the channel. However, Springtrap reminisces as if he remembers physically killing the animatronics.

- Why Springtrap is genuinely good friends with JJ, as he realistically should remember her from the FNAF 2 events as someone who was a spy for the Puppet, even if JJ doesn't remember those events anymore.

- Eth initially wanted JJ to work with Purple Guy for the FNAF 2 series, which would've likely explained their genuine friendship in the future. However, it was likely changed to justify why JJ is on the good side.
- If Springtrap still remembers the events from FNAF 2, or if his memory of the events were also wiped by the cupcakes, especially considering he likely never mentioned this to the other animatronics, especially JJ. Foxy does suspect Springtrap knows something, however.
- It's also possible he was forbidden from telling the others what happened.
- How Springtrap gained control over the phantoms. Especially how the Phantoms aren't actually under Springtrap's control in the canon FNAF 3.

- In the official canon, William Afton has a British accent. However, in EthGoesBOOM, he has a country accent to match with the rest of the Bonnies, as well as Afton's canonical voice not being revealed at the time.
- It's possible that when designing the animatronics, Afton always made sure they would desire attacking the night guards, as during the FNAF 2 series, it's revealed that even before the toy animatronics, the original animatronics had a thing where they would attack the night guard even without facial recognition, albeit treated more like an after-job playtime.
- The Puppet refers to Purple Guy as "pure evil." Ironically though, unlike most other versions of William Afton, this version cannot be considered pure evil or even near pure evil thanks to his minor redemption and lighthearted and comedic moments in his villainy (admitting he likes cupcakes, enjoying The Littlest Penguin to a comedic extent, naming his axe, playing games and reacting even before and during the Fazbear Massacre events, and comedically getting angry about crawling into sealed vents).
- For nearly 2 years from 2021 to 2023, Springtrap's video playing Dead by Daylight was the last video featured on the channel. Poetically, the first video on the channel was about Springtrap.
