| ~ Spy shouting at derfisch06 through the speakers |
The Spy is the main antagonist of the eponymous Team Fortress 2 creepypasta of the same name by Bonefire300. He is an enigmatic entity that appears to be a decaying, seemingly unkillable Spy who stalks random players and repeatedly backstabs them, allowing him to worm his influence into their minds.
Overview[]
In the original creepypasta, Spy's team was unspecified. At first, Spy appears as a normal, default Spy with no cosmetics and only stock weapons, named only "Spy" in the killfeed. However, as he continues to kill a player in a given server, his appearance decays more and more, becoming bloodier until he resembles the Voodoo-Cursed Spy Soul zombie cosmetic. His true form is almost identical to this cosmetic, but with some visible flesh, likened to having been shot in the face with a shotgun, with one bloodshot eyeball still in its socket and the other falling out.
Spy initially displays the in-game abilities of Spy: cloaking and backstabbing, although he has not been seen disguising or using his revolver. However, he moves strangely, seemingly able to teleport right behind his chosen target to backstab them at his discretion. However, he is able to manipulate Team Fortress 2 to a degree, able to hide himself from the player list, and make his chat messages only visible to his target. This causes other players to see the target as committing suicide each time Spy backstabs them, as the killfeed only shows his name to his target. He is also capable of disconnecting players from a server.
Beyond the game, Spy is able to rapidly alter a Steam account for himself, and can hack and override the target's computer, forcing it to display his face as he manipulates the speakers to scream at them. However, this can be turned off by powering down the computer, although the computer will require a factory reset to function again. Most notably, Spy appears able to manipulate the dreams of his targets, making them have recurring nightmares of Spy backstabbing them in real life- and is seemingly able to move physical items in the real world, as one of his targets repeatedly woke up with a butterfly knife next to his bed.
What Spy is was never revealed, only that he had been online nonstop since the game launched, and had never died. This, combined with his abilities, shows that he isn't a player or a hacker, possibly the actual Team Fortress 2 Spy somehow corrupted and wandering the game, or some other entity simply posing as Spy. Spy is cruel, sadistic, and mocking, reveling in the agitation and fear he instills in his targets, enticing them to keep playing in frustration before revealing what he truly is, and from then on making them afraid to touch the game.
History[]
Past[]
Spy appeared in Team Fortress 2 since the game's launch, at the exact moment it went online. He remained in the game ever since, never leaving for even a moment, hopping servers and tormenting players. His skill level and abilities were beyond anything any player could replicate, and he racked up millions of points with zero deaths. While he did not truly kill players in the real world, he would haunt their nightmares regardless, and once achieved at least 120 kills in a single server before moving to the next.
The Spy[]
On October 27th, 2012, a player (named derfisch06 in the 2IdiotGermans adaptation) was playing TF2 to enjoy the Halloween event. His favorite class was Spy, and he often used a butterfly knife in real life to try to mimic Spy's knife skills. On a particular server, he joined as Sniper, and played normally until the Spy appeared and killed him. Miffed and embarrassed that he was backstabbed by what he thought was a brand-new player, derfisch kept playing, only to be killed by Spy again. Realizing that Spy was much more skilled than he looked, derfisch also went Spy for a duel, but was unable to find the Spy anywhere. Then, when going to backstab an enemy Medic, derfisch was backstabbed by Spy again. However, when he checked the scoreboard, he was unable to find Spy anywhere on it.
Assuming Spy had left the server, derfisch kept playing- only to be backstabbed by Spy again, who then left a chat message that read "You are an amateur and a fool!", a classic Spy voiceline. Irritated, derfisch was repeatedly killed by Spy throughout the game, and began to notice that Spy was always smiling in the killcam. Irritated, derfisch joined a Badwater server to play Spy in peace, having fun until Spy chased him into the server and began backstabbing him again. Now, derfisch could see that Spy was becoming visibly paler and seemingly aged, and his suit appeared more weathered. As before, Spy did not appear in the scoreboard, and would be undetectable in the server up until he unexpectedly backstabbed derfisch. Spy quickly dominated derfisch, and declared "I'm going to gut you like a Cornish game hen" in chat.
Now starting to feel disturbed, derfisch asked the other players about Spy, only to find that no one else could see Spy- and every time Spy killed derfisch, it appeared as if derfisch just killbinded. Spy then sent "May I make a suggestion? Run." in chat, before disconnecting derfisch from the server. Undeterred but more disturbed, derfisch joined an Upwards server, playing as Soldier and repeatedly checking behind him, seeing no sign of the Spy. He opted to rocket jump to the cart, and while jumping, caught a quick glimpse of the Spy some distance away- only for Spy to cloak and run off. derfisch saw more glimpses of Spy from a distance, but Spy didn't attack, vanishing each time derfisch saw him. derfisch eventually gave up the search and just started playing normally, only to be backstabbed again while pushing the cart. This time, Spy was decayed and skeletal, resembling the Voodoo Cursed Spy Soul.
Frightened, derfisch left the game, and checked the recent players list to figure out who Spy was, assuming he was a hacker. He managed to locate a Steam profile that matched Spy- named simply "Spy" with a profile picture depicting a sinisterly grinning Spy with red pupils. The page was almost entirely blank, but on Spy's TF2 stats, derfisch saw the truth, how Spy had been in the game since it began and had never left nor died, having racked up millions of points, exclusively being Spy. Then, Spy changed his profile to display "I'll be seeing you!" Spy then blared a siren through derfisch's computer speakers, before crashing his computer. When derfisch rebooted it, he found all the shortcuts disabled and the desktop background entirely black, and assumed he accidentally downloaded a computer virus. After trying to scan for a virus and finding nothing, he tried to go back to Spy's profile, only to find nothing but an error screen.
Then, Spy crashed every program on derfisch's computer, sending loud static through the speakers and displaying his decayed, horrific face on the screen. Through the speakers, Spy screamed "I'M COMING FOR YOU!" before laughing maniacally, the sound becoming increasingly ear-piercing, only stopping when derfisch turned off the computer. Afterwards, derfisch did a factory reset of his computer to get it running again, as Spy had made the device unable to get past the Windows screen. Additionally, in the months since the incident, Spy began to haunt derfisch's dreams- derfisch would get recurring nightmares of coming home late at night, only for Spy to materialize behind him and backstab him, laughing as derfisch bled out. And every time derfisch awoke from the nightmare, he found his butterfly knife on his bed.
Trivia[]
- 2IdiotGermans, who created an animated adaptation of The Spy (where Spy was depicted as BLU), later cited Spy as one of the primary inspirations for the Serverblight, alongside HoovyDundy, SCP-096, The Thing, and the NES Godzilla creepypasta.
- The Spy influenced an extremely similar creepypasta titled The Heavy, by Gatlingun101, which replaced Spy with a Heavy with similar abilities.
