The StarClan cats above... That expression tells me you've seen their true colors. I've seen what those foxhearts have done, living and dead alike. They need to be stopped. Will you help me?
~ Riverstar asking Jayfeather for help in stopping StarClan
The Core is powerful. Powerful and... destructive. My peers were immortalized by this creation. For seasons, StarClan used this power for torment. But you, the one with the power of the stars, can wield it against these false gods. ...I was afraid you'd be scared away... And I can not blame you. No cat in StarClan will live. Not them. Not me. Not you. I'm old and fading. I can't coerce you even if I tried. But I'm begging, for the sake of the Clans, do what you must.
~ Riverstar explaining his plan to have Jayfeather destroy the Core

StarClan is the main antagonist of Starless Night, a Warrior Cats choose your own adventure multi animator project and the sequel to It's Me and You Can't Hide, cohosted by BuddyFuray, Pinecone dot er and Amir. They are the afterlife of Clan cats, where upon their deaths their spirits turn into violent monsters. For reasons unknown, they enjoy tormenting the living world, and will brutally mutilate any outsiders that come into their realm. Not all of them are evil however, as the cats in lower StarClan are mostly passive.

Appearance[]

Upper StarClan cats are abstract, and their pallets are made up of pastel colors. They often have detached limbs, extra eyes and legs, feathery wings, and/or halos and rings.

Lower StarClan cats are melting and falling apart, with more muted colors. They also usually have extra eyes and limbs, though they may also have holes in their bodies and exposed bones. Once faded completely, they are no more than a cat-shaped silhouette on the ground.

Biography[]

StarClan is the afterlife where good Clan cats go when the die, which is formed and held together by the Core, a fusion of three of the Clans' founders; Thunderstar, Shadowstar and Windstar. Though only good cats go to StarClan, while evil ones end up in the Dark Forest, StarClan is in fact no better than the Dark Forest, as cats there become physically and mentally corrupt, and spend their time tormenting those in the living world, seemingly just for amusement. StarClan cats are also extremally hostile, and will attack any outsider on site, unless said outsider is disguised. Their victims often end up horribly deformed, though strangely there is no blood or gore.

One day, while training in the Dark Forest, the ThunderClan warrior Ivypool ends up so badly wounded that her spirit detaches from her body, getting trapped in StarClan. Using his powers to enter StarClan, the medicine cat Jayfeather goes looking for her, finding that upper StarClan's territory is made up of many small, floating islands. He then watches in horror as, on one of the islands below, ThunderClan's former leader Bluestar corners and attacks an innocent outsider, killing them and mangling their body. As he backs away, he runs into another StarClan cat, known as The Guide, who gestures for him to follow her.

Follow[]

Jayfeather agrees to go with The Guide, and she makes him a disguise so that he won't be attacked. They then travel through upper StarClan, with Jayfeather nearly falling when flying from island to island. The Guide warns him that below the islands is Out of Bounds, and that if he dies there, he'll fade away forever. As they keep going, The Guide stops, hearing something from a nearby tree. A cat known as The Attacker then jumps out and starts fighting The Guide, and as he watches, Jayfeather is conflicted on whether or not he should help.

Help[]

The Guide and Jayfeather work together to defeat The Attacker, with the former pinning them down and crushing their head, killing them. They then continue into a dark cave, where Jayfeather's disguise fades and his body starts melting. Once the two get to an opening in the cave full of dark water, Jayfeather asks where they are in pain and fear. The Guide slowly approaches him and reveals they're Out of Bounds, before grabbing Jayfeather and snapping his neck. This leads to the Out of Bounds ending.

Don't Help[]

The Guide is able to fight off The Attacker on her own, but before she can kill them, they run off. She and Jayfeather then continue to the cave, where things continue as normal, up until The Guide is about to snap Jayfeather's neck. She stops, hearing something, and The Attacker comes back, slamming her into the cave wall. The two's disguises glitch and vanish, revealing that The Attacker is actually Ivypool, and The Guide is Spottedleaf. Ivypool is relived to see that Spottedleaf is ok after seeing her get attacked in the Dark Forest, but then asks with concern what she's doing with Jayfeather. Spottedleaf replies that she was trying to kill him, and Ivypool ask why she would do that, as he's integral to defeating the Dark Forest, so doing so would let them win. Spottedleaf replies that she doesn't care if they win, as they were willing to spare her if she killed Jayfeather for them.

Spottedleaf then fights with Ivypool and Jayfeather, but quickly realizes she's outmatched and instead flees the cave. When she runs outside though, the StarClan cats see her without her disguise on and begin to surround her. Once Ivypool and Jayfeather follow her out, they see her getting swarmed and murdered. The spirits then turn their attention to the two and begin to chase after them. Jayfeather and Ivypool reach the place where they first entered StarClan, only to find that Ivypool's body has missing, as she has been gone to long and it has died without her. As the StarClan cats start closing in, Jayfeather is conflicted on if he should save himself or rescue Ivypool.

Sacrifice Himself[]

Jayfeather pushes Ivypool into his body, allowing the StarClan cats to catch up and kill him once she escapes. Ivypool wakes up in the medicine den, and upon looking at her paws an her reflection in a puddle, realizes she's now possessing Jayfeather's body. Afterwards, Jayfeather appears onscreen for a few seconds before becoming severely distorted, showing what the cats of StarClan did to him. This leads to the Sacrifice ending.

Save Himself[]

Jayfeather apologizes to Ivypool before jumping back into his body, waking up in the medicine den. Ivypool is left behind, and is quickly swarmed and brutally murdered by the StarClan cats. Ivypool's sister Dovewing then comes into the medicine den to check on her, only to find her dead, with her head and limbs twisted at unnatural angles. In shock and rage, she demands Jayfeather tells her what he did, thinking he was the one responsible. Ivypool's face then appears onscreen, before getting horribly distorted, just like Jayfeather's in the Sacrifice ending. This then leads to the Survivor ending.

Don't Follow[]

Jayfeather refuses to follow The Guide, which upsets her, and she starts teleporting in his way when he tries to leave. While trying to back away, he slips and falls off the island, plummeting into the barren wastelands of lower StarClan. Through the fog, he sees a hunched over silhouette of a partially melted cat with their back turned to him.

Approach Silhouette[]

The figure turns around and startles Jayfeather, begging him to stay. The figure then introduces himself as Riverstar, the founder of RiverClan. He asks what Jayfeather is doing in the Cemetery of the Ancients, and the younger tom replies that he was looking for a friend in upper StarClan, then fell off the islands. Riverstar offers to show him a way out, in exchange for a favor. When he mentions the cats of upper StarClan, Jayfeather remembers seeing Bluestar kill an innocent cat, and Riverstar remarks that his horrified expression means he's seen how they act. Riverstar continues that they must be stopped, and asks Jayfeather if he's willing to help, to which the medicine cat agrees.

As the two walk through lower StarClan, many fading spirits watch them pass by, and Jayfeather begins melting. They get through a windy area, and approach the Core. Riverstar explains that it's an amalgam of Thunderstar, Shadowstar and Windstar, and is what gives StarClan form and allows them to torment the living world. he then says that Jayfeather has the powers of StarClan, and could use them to destroy the Core and bring and end to all the suffering. However, he also warns him that doing so will erase everyone in StarClan, including himself.

Blow Up Core[]

Jayfeather uses his powers to destroy the Core, which explodes in a flash of white light. Riverstar, Jayfeather, Ivypool, Spottedleaf, Bluestar, and every other cat in StarClan are then erased from existence, as are both upper and lower StarClan.

Meanwhile, in the living world, Dovewing visits the medicine den, only to find Jayfeather's body gone, a single blue jay feather in his nest. She then checks on Ivypool, horrified to find that she's dead because of her spirit getting erased. She runs outside and calls out to Jayfeather before looking to the sky and begging StarClan for help. She pauses mid-sentence though, witnessing the stars and moon quickly disappear, leaving the sky a pitch black void. This leads to the Starless ending, and what is quite possibly the true ending.

Refuse[]

Jayfeather cannot bring himself to destroy StarClan, and starts heading up a makeshift stairway of floating stones to get back to the upper level. As he does though, his body begins melting even more. Before he can get to the top, he melts into the ground and fades away, leaving nothing but another silhouette on the ground. This leads to the True Death ending.

Avoid Silhouette[]

Jayfeather turns away from the silhouette and begins walking through lower StarClan on his own, with the spirits there watching him as he passes by. Eventually he encounters Rock and Midnight, with the former demanding to know why he's there. Midnight says they don't have time for that, as Jayfeather must return to the living world. Both then beckon for him to follow them, but start heading in different directions.

Follow Rock[]

Jayfeather follows Rock down a long tunnel, and once he reaches the end, wakes up back in the medicine den. Dazed, he stumbles over something, and upon feeling what it is, realizes that it's Ivypool's body, and she's still stuck in StarClan. Meanwhile, an undisguised Ivypool sits stranded on one if the islands of upper StarClan, looking around fearfully. She is presumably caught and killed by the StarClan cats soon after. This leads to the Abandoned ending.

Follow Midnight[]

Jayfeather follows Midnight down a long tunnel, and once he reaches the end, hears the sound of waves crashing and smells saltwater, realizing that he's now at Midnight's den, miles away from the Clans. This leads to the Desolate ending.

Trivia[]

  • Before getting stuck in the Dark Forest, Spottedleaf was the only StarClan cat who wasn't physically or mentally corrupted; she looked and acted the same way she did in life, though was somewhat transparent and had a white outline. It's currently unknown why this is.
  • It's unknown whether or not the Dark Forest was also erased in the Starless ending, or if the Core's destruction only effected StarClan.
  • Strangely, the Core only has three of the five founders. It's likely that Skystar either escaped or was ejected from the Core when SkyClan dissolved, but it's unknown why Riverstar is not apart of it.
  • Upper StarClan cats' designs are based off of biblically accurate angels, The Walten Files, Nextbots, and the Mandella Cataloge. Bluestar in particualr is also based off of the Demogorgon from Stranger Things.
  • Lower StarClan cats' designs are based off of The Walten Files, the Twisted Animatronics from Five Nights at Freddy's, abominations from The Owl House, and the Amalgamates from Undertale.
