Starscream (DEATH BATTLE!)

Starscream is the titular main antagonist of the DEATH BATTLE episode, "Starscream VS Rainbow Dash." He is a Decepticon bent on overtaking Megatron and obtaining leadership. He is Rainbow Dash's arch nemesis.

He was voiced by Zak Wilson and his Spark was voiced by James "Jim" Stephanie Sterling.

Personality[]

Starscream is cocky and, as Rainbow Dash puts it, "talks a lot." He is shown to severely underestimate his opponent, Rainbow Dash until he realizes she is too small and too fast for him. This leads him to also show his more manipulative side.

History[]

Starscream enters Ponyville, apparently being called to face a challenge. That challenge, Rainbow Dash, reveals herself. Starscream mockingly laughs at what he has to face against, claiming he will annihilate her. However, Rainbow manages to land some successful quick hits and a few not-so-great hits onto the Decepticon. Already getting fed up, the two take the fight to the sky, where Rainbow Dash continues to prove too fast and small for Starscream's Stormtrooper Gunmanship. Starscream is eventually sent back to the ground when Rainbow traps him in a thunder cloud. However, Starscream then shoots at Rainbow with a Null Ray, prompting the pony to take the fight more seriously. She summons a tornado, which Starscream attempts to escape, but breaks a wing off his jet form in the process.

Starscream recovers and seems to surrender. However, it becomes clear that this was a mere ruse to shoot Rainbow with a barrage of homing missiles, all of which not only miss her, but she pulls off a Batman gambit by leading them back at the Transformer with her Sonic Rainboom. The missiles take out Starscream's legs and Rainbow uses her Buccaneer Blaze to rip Starscream apart. Starscream's invincible Spark then flies out of his body to taunt Rainbow, only for her to inexplicably eat the Spark, ending the fight.

Trivia[]

The fight claims that Starscream's 2,100 mph speed is slower than Rainbow Dash's Mach 10 speed. However, a decade later, it was shown that Starscream can actually fly at a more impressive hundreds of thousands of times the speed of light.
It has been stated by Wizard and Boomstick that after Starscream's Spark exited Rainbow, it went into a sewing machine, which was considered a fate worse than death.
The episode was considered controversial among DEATH BATTLE and Transformers fans, particularly with the treatment and portrayal of Starscream and how they doubled down his incompetence to the point of him being a joke.
