The part of revenge will be coming around, and around. Sweet revenge for the misfortune that was dealt to me years ago. Power. Fear. All that, it will be done from here to where Tad's family is.
~ Steve Kemp embracing his new identity as War Machine.
Oh, can't you picture this? Your father was kind and loving, and he even agreed to play tennis with me. Mine, who was named Arthur, was a huge jerk to me. He oftentimes beat me with beer bottles.
~ War Machine revealing his "tragic" past to Tad Trenton/Gold Bolt during their battle.

Stephen "Steve" Kemp, later known as War Machine, is the secondary antagonist in the 1983 film Cujo, and the main antagonist of Gold Bolt Returns, which serves as a sequel to Gold Bolt.

He is the former lover of Donna Trenton, who wants revenge on her, for ending the affair. Ultimately, his plans fail, as he is apprehended by police, after suspicion of him involving the disappearance of Donna and her son Tad. Later, he would end up becoming War Machine and try to finish the job.

Biography[]

Past[]

Not much is known about Steve Kemp's past, other than the fact that he grew up with an abusive father named Arthur Kemp.

Cujo (1983)[]

For that information, see here.

Gold Bolt Returns[]

Escape from prison[]

At the Aroostook County Courthouse and Jail, Steve Kemp sat in one of the cells, frustrated of all the years he spent in the cell. After being told to shut up by a prison guard, Steve Kemp feigned remorse for his actions, prompting the prison guard to open the cell door, where Steve stole his baton and beat him to death with it.

Not long after, Steve reclaimed his clothes, and when a prison staff member asked him what he was doing, Steve, still in his disguise, told him that he had to beat an insubordinate inmate to death for the altercation. The guard understood, and Steve flew a helicopter off the prison yard. He got his house after kicking out the original owner named Max Ronack.

Reviving Brett Camber/Prowler[]

Meanwhile, near the U.S 71 bridge, a white 2006 Toyota Camry pulled onto the right shoulder on the road. The driver of the car stepped out, and it was none other than Steve Kemp. He found Prowler, who had been unconscious for the past 16 months while under the U.S 71 bridge. Steve then dragged Prowler off the shore, and placed him in the backseat of his car. He drove him all the way to his house in West Des Moines, IA, and after taking the unconscious Prowler into his basement, he revived him with a defibrillator. Prowler woke up, and started coughing water from his lungs. After that, Steve ordered Prowler to go and kill Tad Trenton. After that, Steve Kemp then went to his desk, pulling out a blueprint to make his own armor. Then, he proceeded to make a cake. While he was making it, he hummed Johnny B Goode by Chuck Berry, even after the cake was made and when he placed sensory nano-bots he had made. He then proceeded to place the cake in a box after pulling out a remote that had a button that would make the nano-bots explode.

Re-encounter with the Trenton family[]

After Gold Bolt and Spider-Man 2099 had their rematch with Prowler, Steve showed up and explained his prison escape. Steve Kemp then got into his car, and Prowler, who had regained consciousness, got on his damaged motorcycle, and gives chase. He then ordred Prowler to continue the chase while going back to his house. Meanwhile, Steve Kemp went back to his home, and returned to work on his armor.

Completing his new War Machine armor[]

Steve returned to his home, then went back to work on his new armor. He then aquired a M134 Minigun, then placed it onto his new armor. After finding a rocket launcher in his bedroom, Steve Kemp placed it onto the armor. Meanwhile, Steve is placing the last of 32 circut boards in his armor, and it powered on. He then put on his armor, which he decided to call the War Machine armor, and then, it turned on. After embracing his new identity as War Machine, he then flew off to the Nodaway Police Department. All that were inside were shocked to see what was in front of them. They met their ends when War Machine fired his gauntlets at the cops inside. War Machine then used his unibeam on Dran, killing him instantly. After that, War Machine flew off, intent on searching for Tad, Valerie, Jane, Donna, and Vic.

At the bar[]

As Tad Trenton was leaving The Ridge Social Drinkery, he didn't notice War Machine arriving. After the bartender asked if he can help him, War Machine then grabbed him as the customers there threw bottles and chairs at the bartender, killing him. War Machine then goes flying out of the bar, intent on finding the Trentons, and completing his revenge. Meanwhile, War Machine climbed up Mississippi Lofts to the top. He then aimed his minigun at a traffic light, then fired at the cable, squishing a nearby pedestrian. After that, War Machine flew off, intent on going to the Double Tree hotel. As he did so, he crashed into an office building, then swatted the employees away. Then, he resumed his journey to the top of the hotel.

Final battle and death[]

Gold Bolt and Prowler, who had arrived on the top of the room, approached War Machine. Then, they engage in a fierce fight that goes all the way to Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway Nahant Yard, where the battle continues. Gold Bolt manages to defeat Steve Kemp by compromising his suit's systems, causing him to fall into fuel, killing him. With Steve Kemp dead, Donna Trenton has closure from her affair with him, which she regrets.

Personality[]

Steve is masculine and aggressive, demanding rights on everything and gets upset when he fails. He is rude and unpleasant towards nearly everybody, while also being child-like and immature.
