Striker doesn't know whether or not they're bullshitting how much actual risk there is to push some kind of isolationist agenda, nor does he much care. Money is money, and he always finds a way to get by comfortably.
~ The narration about Striker's job as a mercenary.
Work that exciting doesn't fall into our laps every day. Mostly you've just gotta accept the daily grind.
~ Striker when Hazard says he prefers bounty hunting.

Striker is the secondary antagonist of the Animator vs. Animation fanfiction They're Sticks, Probably by HakureiRyuu.

He is the leader of the mercenary team hired by Victim to help in his plans of revenge against Alan Becker. The most ruthless and competent of the team, Striker serves as Victim's de facto right hand throughout most of the fic.

Appearance[]

Like in canon, Striker appears as a thin, black stick figure with a filled-in head wearing black sunglasses.

History[]

Backstory[]

Striker's backstory is unknown besides the fact he's a mercenary working closely alongside Ballista, Primal and Hazard. It's mildly implied at one point he lived at Newgrounds when he was younger, and lost some people during the Chosen One and the Dark Lord's rampage. We know that the mercs have bounty hunted in the past as a way to earn money.

Shortly before the events of the story, he and his teammates were hired by victim as part of his revenge plot against his creator, Alan Becker.

They're Sticks, Probably[]

Striker first debuts when he comes to King and Purple's house, looking for the latter. He explains that Purple has apparently met with the terrorist The Chosen One, who once worked with the deceased Dark Lord. When Purple claims they don't know Chosen, Striker leaves but tells King to call him in case anything happens. Around a week and a half later, he somehow manages to find Chosen alongside his teammates, and the four chase him out of the city. While they are distracted, Chosen quickly flees to Alex's computer to rest. Striker comes to victim's office to report the loss, and his boss orders him to look over previous leads until they find something. He also tells Striker there are "a few new toys" waiting for him, implicitly new tools for his toolbar. Striker smiles and tells victim he's spoiling him.

Striker goes back to silently watch over King and Purple's house, curious about his scanner identifying an anomaly in the house it can't recognize. He sees Purple enter the house, and upon scanning over them, realises they've been on three separate computers. He sends this info to victim while going over to enter the house. King tells Purple to hide while he picks up one of his numerous staffs in case a battle will break out. Upon a short discussion where King refuses to let Striker enter his house, he breaks into it and spots a Minecraft trapdoor, which leads to the basement with a Nether portal. Upon getting a good look at Purple and the computer IPs he's been to, he orders Rocket Corp to send out Ballista, Primal and Hazard to each of those computers.

King quickly recovers and fights back, and the two adults get into a brawl while Purple flees into the Nether portal. The fight ends off-screen, with Striker pausing King just as he's about to kill him with the Netherite Staff. While Rocket Corp workers look through the house, Striker enters the Nether portal and looks around the Minecraft world. There, he encounters Ballista, who found a Nether portal of his own via Purple's MAC. He shows off the Ender Dragon's severed head after he killed her, and Striker tells him to go back to the Mac to continue searching for information.

Meanwhile, Striker comes back to King's house. While he's gone, Red and Yellow broke into the basement, knocked out several workers, and used an Eyedropper tool from their toolbars to change their colors to masquerade themselves as Rocket workers. Striker falls for it, and tells them to take the injured worker to the back of the truck, where they find a paused King. Striker uses the Undo tool on his toolbar to undo all the damages to King's house.

When they all finish the drive back to Rocket Corp headquarters, Striker shows off a Command Block to victim. After conversating about King, victim reveals Primal was on Alan's computer and they already have his location. Later on, the two find out about Red and Yellow impersonating two workers, and Striker and Primal come in to capture and imprison them in a quick fight.

When the heroes break in to free them, Striker and victim ambush Chosen as he's preparing to free Yellow. Chosen corners the two with his fire to force them to agree to his offer: Yellow is allowed to escape the building in exchange for Chosen giving himself in, or Chosen collapses the whole building. victim agrees to the offer and tells Striker to escort Yellow out of the building and order Primal and Ballista to stop attacking the other characters. He does as ordered, and proceeds to help his boss in torturing Chosen inside the Box. However, the Second Coming breaks into the room and distracts Striker, giving Chosen an opportunity to kill victim.

Nervous, as Chosen and Second teleport away, Striker runs back to his boss' office, where he finds him laying on a Minecraft bed, having respawned. Suddenly, Victim's name is with an uppercase V, thus giving him a real name and not just a description of his role. Happy with the result, Victim proceeds to tell Striker that he and his team are free to go, and will be paid for the help. Satisfied, Striker says it's been a pleasure as he shakes his former boss' hand. Together with Primal and Ballista, he leaves Rocket Corp headquarters and goes to find the heroes, who have been all reunited. They announce that they will no longer antagonize them due to not being on Victim's payroll anymore, but wonder where Hazard is. Second tells them that he is on Alex's turned-off PC, and when he asks the mercs for ways to prove to Hazard that his job is over, Striker responds that they should simply request Hazard to check his bank account before leaving.

In the epilogue, following Victim's defeat, the reveal of his attempt to nuke a real-life city are revealed to the Outernet's public. On Primal's suggestions, the Mercenaries think about becoming security to powerful stick figures that will know what they've helped in, how they helped Victim build up Rocket Corp, and will want to recruit them onto their sides. As the mercs decide to briefly split up until the situation calms down, a curious Striker tells Hazard how it was inside a turned-off PC; he claims it's like falling asleep out of nowhere, and being confused when you wake up.

After the two split up, Striker uses a stolen Rocket Corp speedster to reach the IP of Alan's PC, the place where Victim was trapped in, the computer having shut down with him inside, similarly to Hazard's fate. As he thinks about his former boss and what kind of life he must have lived, he tells him to sleep well before flying away.

Personality[]

Striker is a complete professional at his job, doing everything nicely and smoothly. He is constantly polite to everyone, even his opponents, and is shown to view his job as just another business, and is passive to the Stick Gang the second he's no longer being employed to fight them. He is additionally shown to be accepting of Purple being non-binary, simply apologizing once he calls them a man. It's also implied Striker enjoys a fight by his reaction to King challenging him with a staff.

Additionally, it's shown Striker's not completely heartless but tries to cover it up for the sake of professionalism: He has to stop himself from calling Hazard his friend, is implied to be wishing Victim could have changed things, has apparently lost loved ones, and ultimately tells Victim to sleep well upon his defeat.
