Stuart "Stu" Macher is the secondary antagonist in Friends I Don't Have - The Wake, the first installment of Friends I Don't Have. He's Tatum's psychotic boyfriend, who helped her with her killing spree in woodsboro. He's mostly similar to his canon counterpart, with the difference between them comes from the person each version partnered with.
He was portrayed by Tyler Posey.
History[]
Background[]
Stuart Macher was born sometime in late-1978 or 1979. He grew up in 261 Turner Lane, Woodsboro, California, a large farmhouse with his sibling(s) and parents. He has at least one elder sister, Leslie, who gave birth to a son, Vince Schneider 3 years after his death.
As a Woodsboro High senior, he is the fun-loving boyfriend of a major character, Tatum Riley. Previously, he dated Casey Becker until she dumped him for Steve Omar, a football player.
Stu helps Tatum in the killings apparently for no real reason, except for "my girlfriend told me so" (Though another possible motive for Stu may be that one of their first victims, Casey Becker, was Stu's ex-girlfriend who may have dumped him for her next boyfriend, Steve Omar, so murdering them may very well have been Stu's idea in order to get revenge against them both). Stu raped and murdered Sidney Prescott (the protagonist)'s mother Maureen Prescott under Tatum's orders after Neil Prescott decided to end his affair with Tatum and come back to his wife.
The Wake[]
A year later, they attacked Casey Becker and Steve Omar in the middle of the night. While Tatum threatened Casey, Stu attacked Steve, barely managed to kill him after a serious fight and strapped his dead body in a chair. After Stu escaped to lick his wounds, Casey was left to fend for herself against Tatum. By the time Casey's parents came home, their daughter was already strangled stabbed in her chest and gutted by Tatum.
The next day, Stu, Billy (Stu's best friend), Sidney, Tatum and Randy discussed the murders on a fountain. Later that day, Sidney was called and being threatened by Tatum under the disguise of Ghostface. After Sidney, under the belief that the threatened was on her front porch, locked the door to the inside. However, little did she know that the killer was inside her house and hiding in a closet, in which Stu attacked her, but failed to after he was locked out of Sid's room. Billy came in and comforted her, but was told to go away when Sidney found that his cell dropped on the floor, believing that he called and pursued her. Billy is arrested but is released when Stu called Sidney again.
The next day, while in the hall at Tatum's locker, Sidney, Tatum and Stu were talking. Stu was seen checking his face in the mirror, from the head injury sustained from assaulting Sidney, and her self-defense attack. Later that day, school was closed until the murders and attacks will be stopped. Stu (according to Tatum's plan) said he is going to throw a party knowing the others will want to go. Tatum pleads Sidney to go with them to the party promising that Billy won't be there as part of her plan to make him look suspecious. Sidney agreed. Stu told them to grab food before he went in his own direction toward home to set up for it.
In the evening, Stu had a party with his friends to celebrate. During the party, he helped Tatum faking her death with a garage door. When Randy found out that Principal Himbry was found dead (Tatum previously killed him), a majority of the guests left the house, with only Randy still attending. While Billy and Sidney have sex in the upper level, Billy was attacked by Stu, and the latter chased Sidney. After Sidney ran away, Stu went to the living room, where he found Randy still watching Halloween. Stu nearly killed him, but Sidney's scream from outside distracted him. Stu went outside and killed Gale's cameraman, Kenny Brown, while Sidney was watching in horror. After Billy turned out to be alive, Tatum stabbed him in the back, snapped his neck, took his gun and shot Randy in the shoulder, thus revealing himself. Stu revealed himself shortly after that. Tatum and Stu confronted Sidney and told their plan to her and reveal that they killed her mother and framed Cotton. After Tatum stabbed Sidney and one time and let her fall down, and later slashed her own arm, Stu was excited by the thought that him and his girlfriend will stab each other to make it look like they were victims of an attack and plan to survive and make a "sequel" murder. Sadly for him, Tatum was planning to kill him from the beginning, and stabbed him to death multiple times.
University of Lies[]
During the Windsor College Murders, Stu is mentioned. Just before Randy Meeks is killed on Windsor College Campus, he questions the copycat killer's motive. Speaking to the Ghostface entity through Gale's phone, he makes some critical commentary. Randy questions why the killer is copying "two loser, high school d!#k-heads". He refers to Stu as a loster before insulting Tatum. He calls Tatum an "Electra-repressed Daddy's girl". This drives the killer, later revealed to be Tatum's father, Scott Riley to grab Randy into cameraman, Joel Martin's news van and kill him in one of the most brutal ways in the franchise.
The Fifth Symphony[]
Stu is mentioned as Vince Schneider's maternal uncle, to whom Vince seems more similar than Vince's mother intended. His old house 261 Turner Lane is revealed to be resided in by Amber, and also where Sam wants Sidney to come for her reveal. Amber holds a party like Stu did once, but is later killed by Sam as the latter's set up for Act 3.
Victims[]
- Maureen Prescott - Gutted and raped.
- Steve Omar - Wrestled to the ground and got his neck broken after a serious fight.
- Kenny Jones - Smashed into his news van and got his throat slashed.
- Neil Prescott - Got shot in the head when he was tied up and bruised.
Trivia[]
- Stu is the first character in the franchise who was portrayed by an actor who already portrayed different characters in the canon universe (followed by Felipe Estefan, Maureen Evans, Miguel Trejo, Derek Feldman, Elizabeth Murphy, Lois Mosley, Lara Jones, Sarah Darling and Angelina Tyler), as well as the first killer who was portrayed by a canon actor (followed by Angelina Tyler and Samantha Carpenter).
- Before portraying Stu in Friends I Don't have, Tyler Posey portrayed Shane in the canon season 3 of Scream, alternatively known as Scream: Resurrection.
- His picture is taken from MTV video music awards and was originally uploaded to the internet on August 27, 2017.
- Stu is the first Ghostface in the franchise who's also a Ghostface in the canon, followed by Charlie Walker and Jill Roberts. However, while Charlie and Jill fall under Adaptational Sympathy to varying degrees, Stu is mostly similar to the canon, with only weak elements of Adaptational Nice Guy. He's also the first Ghostface whose facade prior to the reveal is almost identical to his true personality.
- Had he survived for long enough to be either caught by the police or confronted by Sidney before being killed like in the canon, it can be assumed that he would claim to be pressured to do so by Tatum. In his words, "domestic pressure. I'm far too sensitive.". It's technically true, because Tatum was indeed the mastermind, but it doesn't indicate a distinctive motive. It also shows that while he was loyal to Tatum, that loyalty wasn't unconditioned, as he was morally and mentally capable to shift part of the blame to her in case of getting caught.
