~ Dark ordering Ditzyshine to kill Second. |
The Dark Lord, or just Dark for short, is the main antagonist of the Animator vs. Animation fanfic Endgame. He is the archenemy of the Chosen One and the Second Coming, and the adoptive father of Ditzyshine.
Alan Becker's third creation and a narcissist seeking to take over the Internet, Dark returns ten months after the events of Season 2 of AvA with the goal of killing Chosen and Second and completing his goal with the help of his new "daughter", an ice-powered stick figure named Ditzy.
Appearance[]
Like in canon, the Dark Lord is a red, hollow-headed stick figure who wears a pair of black-and-red wristbands called the Wristbands of Power.
History[]
Backstory[]
During the events of "The Showdown", a young stick figure with ice powers named Ditzyshine was watching the epic battle between the Chosen One and the Dark Lord. Taking a liking to Dark due to both being hand-drawn inventors and thinking he was "cool", when the Second Coming defeated him, Ditzy immediately ran to the site of the explosion. After finding a heavily injured, but still alive Dark, she dragged him to her base and took care of him until, a month later, he woke up. He eventually agreed to take Ditzy as his right hand, finding her intelligence and powers, yet naiveness and childishness, useful. Together they'd start raiding and destroying towns together, Dark raising Ditzy into a pawn as obsessed with destruction as he is. While preparing for revenge, Dark and Ditzy built new versions of ViraBots, as well as counterparts called ViraScorpions, ViraBrutes and ViraFrostbites. Ditzy would befriend a defect ViraBrute and call it Brutus.
At an unknown point in time (possibly even before "The Showdown"), Dark encountered a stick figure called the Universal One and experimented on them with his Vira-Blades, stabbing them and forcing the evil Vira-code into their body, thus giving them similar Vira-powers and traumatizing Uni.
Creating an Army[]
Ten months later, a stick figure named the Deserved One sees a graffiti belonging to Dark and Ditzy which warns about an "endgame" where they will reign over the Internet. Realising he is back, Deserved - alongside other stick figures name Purity, Plasma and Universal - visit the Chosen One and tell him Dark is back, even giving him proof in the form of a wristband that can create a ViraBlade. One of them even claims Dark and Ditzy destroyed her home. Realising they were correct, Chosen goes to ALANSPC to ask for the Stick Gang's help. They agree, and they all form a team together, additionally getting the help of other sticks called Metsa, Mr. Ragey, the Elemental One, and Lime. Later on, two sticks called Shaira and the Multiversal One (Universal's brother) join the team.
Meanwhile, Dark and Ditzy admire their work. Once Ditzy requests gathering allies to help in the upcoming war, Dark agrees and goes across the Internet to find and recruit several stick figures who have a bone to pick with Chosen: The Smiling Lord, an opportunistic charmer who worked as a con artist and teamed up with Dark in exchange for riches and power. Kod Eye, who seeks to become the strongest after being bullied for being weak. Victim and Silverfrost, two former-villains who have now reduced themselves into simple pranksters, joining Dark for fun (Victim shares creators with Dark like in canon, though this is never brought up). Imperial Vermillion, a villain who simply wants to destroy everything.
Upon bringing Vermillion to his base, Dark noticed Ditzy spending time with the new allies. Angry at her, he locks her in her room and says she can "go a few days without food" as punishment. As he leaves the base to continue recruiting allies, Dark himself is the one being confronted: by Positive, the Elemental One's envious older brother who felt like he couldn't be a hero due to Elemental stealing his fame. Renaming himself to Negative, he asks Dark if he can be part of his alliance so they can get revenge on both Elemental and Chosen, and Dark agrees. Once that's done, Dark goes to recruit one final ally: Disaster Guy, who simply wants a challenge and thus agrees to fight Chosen.
Preparing For War[]
While the heroes are having a meeting and getting to know each other, a ViraFrostbite send out by Dark sneaks into the base and leaves them a message that warns them to stay out of his business, or die alongside their loved ones. In the arguing that happened afterwards, Plasma went on a walk to get some fresh air and came across Ditzy, who was doing the same. The two quickly bond together, and after Multiversal and Universal find them, they realise Dark has recruited a child after initially thinking the "Ditzyshine" they heard about was an adult.
However, Ditzy's pet ViraBrute Brutus went back to Dark's base due to being unable to follow Ditzy. It reported the events to Dark via a recording, and in rage he flew over to the heroes to get Ditzy back. As Multi tries to protect Ditzy, Dark has a swarm of ViraFrostbites surround Plasma. As the heroes try to save her, Dark and Ditzy fly off with the ViraFrostbites, it all being a trap to make the heroes choose between one.
The encounter causes Dark to realise Chosen has been building an army like him. Coming up with a plan, he asks Ditzy to spy for him in exchange for him sparing Plasma, which she accepts. He also implants a bit of code into her so he could see and hear through her body as she goes back to Chosen's base and befriends the heroes.
Finally, some of the good guys - Chosen, Uni, Plasma and Deserved - confronted Dark in a recon mission to find the location of his base. Uni reveals who he is to Dark and they attack him, with Dark beginning to regret his experiments on Uni upon realising what a powerful enemy he made. Upon realising he's losing, he calls ViraBots and ViraFrostbites to his side. During the battle, one of the ViraFrostbites managed to hit Plasma, paralyzing her just as Uni was about to kill Dark. Deciding his friend is more important, Uni lets Dark go, and the latter uses the opportunity to summon several ViraSpikes to impale the former before he escapes.
Secretly Being Betrayed[]
Meanwhile, Dark's minions, lead by a suspicious Victim, investigate his treatment of Ditzy upon discovering that her room hurts those with ice powers. They realise how he's been abusing her to make sure she stays loyal to him, with Silverfrost even claiming Ditzy is stronger than Dark if she fully unlocked her powers. Disgusted at his treatment of her, they all make a plan to get all the kids in the war out of the way, and then turn on Dark once the heroes are defeated.
As Ditzy reads through some of the heroes' documents, she's confronted by Plasma, but their friendly encounter is broken by Chosen, who demands information on how Dark survived. Dark, who heard this conversation, orders Victim and Silverfrost to invade the heroes' base in a false attempt to steal Ditzy back so the heroes would gain her trust. It easily succeeds, and both villains come back unharmed. After some time, Ditzy reveals to Second she's a spy for Dark.
In the night, she and Dark meet in the spot where they used to train. After hitting her, he "trains" her by hurling fireballs at her, and promises he will include another of her friends, Shaira, into their deal if she obeys his order, though the narration reveals he's lying and plans to kill both her and Plasma. Some time later, Negative and Disaster Guy have decided to go rouge and out Ditzy as a spy to make sure she leaves the battlefield. In the chaos, Chosen tries to kill Ditzy for her treason while Second protects her, eventually escaping to her old base.
The Final Battle[]
After hearing what Negative and Disaster Guy did, an enraged Dark says he will spare them only if they do well enough during the final battle before using his technology to hijack Ditzy's body and confront Second. He uses the girl's hypothermia gun to freeze Second's shoulder before escaping, trying to bring Ditzy's body back to his base while sending off his army to fight the heroes as a distraction. Only Victim stayed behind to mock Dark for controlling Ditzy's body, causing a brief chase where Dark seemingly kills him.
The villains and heroes battle it out among themselves. Most notably, Metsa finds an injured Victim and they team up to take down Dark; Kod Eye redeems himself upon being spared by the Multiversal One; and Vermillion manages to heavily injure Lime, though not without being injured himself. Meanwhile, Dark and Ditzy confront Chosen, the formermost ordering his "daughter" to take down the lattermost so she could gain even the tiniest bit of freedom. Angry at her holding back throughout, Dark once again takes control of Ditzy's body to make her go all-out, easily defeating the Chosen One.
Dark gloats about having won before Plasma arrives to convince Ditzy to turn against her master. Just then, Second arrives to do the same, and Dark orders Ditzy to kill him. As the other fighters watch, Vermillion asks Lime if he can still switch sides; Victim and Silverfrost reunite with Metsa's help; Negative redeems himself and turns back to Positive after admitting his mistakes to Elemental; Disaster Guy joins the heroes after being disgusted by how Dark hijacked Ditzy's body; Kod Eye promises to kill Dark; and Red finds Ditzy's pet Brutus, and finds a way to pacify the other Viras.
Ditzy ultimately defeats Second in battle, mostly cause he was holding back out of fear for her. He then orders her to kill Plasma, and once she refuses, he hijacks her body again, but she refuses and tells him she'll never serve him again. As they fight for control over her body, Ditzy breaks free and manages to trap Dark in an ice prison, but accidentally hurts Plasma in the process, causing her to lose her power over regret.
Dark tries to find a way to leave the cage, and sees Victim coming up to him. He begs him to free him, but every other fighter suddenly walks up to Victim's side. They all attack him at once with brute strength, Dark feeling himself get ripped apart before finally dying, ending his reign of terror and abuse over Ditzy for good. Upon death, he finds himself in the Void, the same place Victim was before his resurrection by Silverfrost.
Legacy[]
The Dark Lord was the only casualty of the final battle, and with his death all chaos came to a close. With the other villains redeemed, they all joined the heroes to become one big friend group. Ditzy and Plasma remained close friends, and after one year, everyone forgot about Dark and went back to their peaceful lives.
Unbestknown to anyone, two stick figures named Purple and King watched over the battle together, noting everything. King comes up with the plan to resurrect Dark so he could help him in his plans, noting he could kidnap Ditzy to convince him if needed.
Personality[]
This version of Dark is far more malicious than in canon due to being able to talk. He is shown to be ruthlessly cruel, sadistic and narcissistic, always putting himself above others. Like in canon, Dark is a massive coward, making Ditzy fight Second for him and only recruiting allies as a wall between himself and his enemies. Dark's important quality here is his obsession about Ditzy, seeing her as his property which should have her eyes on him and him only. He is completely unwilling to have Ditzy think or spend time with anyone except him, threatening the lives of anyone she befriends. At the same time, he is horrifically abusive to her, hitting her for disobeying, starving her, and locking her in a room that specifically hurts those with ice powers.
Dark is also manipulative, tricking Ditzy into spying for him under the false promise of killing Plasma. He is overall psychopathic and remorseless; the closest he felt to "remorse" was for experimenting on Uni, simply because he made himself a dangerous threat. Tellingly, all of Dark's allies are disgusted after learning how he treated Ditzy and immediately plan to betray him. In his final moments, Dark becomes completely delusional and narcissistic, believing Victim would still save him even after betraying and almost killing him.
Trivia[]
- Despite the ending of the fic, no official sequel ever came out, though several fan continuations have come out since its creation.
- Compared to the original Dark Lord, who was seemingly simply cataclysmic, this one explicitly wants world domination.
