Dark: D’you ever wonder if he still thinks about us?
Chosen: I genuinely hope he's forgotten the whole thing, Dark, please let it drop. I'm tired.
Dark: How can you say that? Everything he did to you‒
Chosen: Is over, okay? He's gone. He can't hurt us anymore.
Dark: We can hurt him.
Chosen: We already did.
Dark: Not enough.
~ Dark expressing her resentment towards Alan.
Dark: I can't get him out, Cho, I've tried for so long, but he's part of me.
Chosen: The mission code? You said it was‒
Dark: Overwritten, but not gone. Never gone. Even now, sometimes I still‒ I have to take it out on other people. People who aren't you. I won't let it be you.
~ Dark explaining how Alan's coding still affects her.

The Dark Lord otherwise known as simply Dark, is the overarching antagonist of the Animator vs. Animation fanfiction They're Sticks, Probably by HakureiRyuu.

She is the younger sister and former best friend of The Chosen One. Initially created by Alan to destroy her older sibling and stop him from terrorizing his PC, she would end up rebelling against her creator, teaming up with the black stick figure to completely destroy Alan's computer before escaping into the Outernet.

Appearance[]

Dark takes on an idenitical appearance to canon, being a red stick figure with a hollowed-out head similiar to her siblings. Upon equipping the ViraBands, she also has a blade that she uses to snuff out her victims.

Biography[]

The Dark Lord's backstory is largely identical to that of her canon counterpart with a bit of added context that explain her actions more clearly. Created by Alan Becker when the Chosen One had broken free from his enslavement, she was given the directive to destroy him so he won't break Alan's PC.

At first, she would abide by her command without much objection, brawling with Chosen and trying to take him down, even getting the help of Alan's other desktop applications in order to take him down. Putting up a good fight initially, Chosen would eventually overwhelm her by trapping her in a game of Minesweeper while he deals with the other applications, eventually directing Firefox over to the game and causing the entire window to be destroyed. Chosen, having Dark at his mercy, offers to spare her in exchange for taking down Alan, bringing attention to how throughout their entire battle, he had just been playing cards the whole time, completely disregarding Dark's safety.

Agreeing to team up, the two of them lay waste to Alan's PC, completely destroying it and ending things off with an explosion that leads to a blue screen of death. Chosen and Dark break through the Wi-Fi router to escape. This ends up working, the two of them escaping into the Outernet unscathed.

Their first few days in the Outernet were filled with joy and excitement. Both Chosen and Dark were free from their shackles and had the whole world open to them. However, things would quickly begin to turn sour once Dark's code begins to rear its ugly head. While she was able to override her initial programming to kill her brother, the code was still there, meaning she always had the urge to hurt Chosen. To combat this, the two of them began going on an internet rampage, taking it out on other programs a way to combat her prime directive and not hurt Chosen. This not only made things more complicated towards the two siblings, but it would also make her (understandably) resent Alan far more than she already did.

As her and Chosen's attacks got worse, and as Chosen began to think twice about what they were doing, Dark would eventually develop the ViraBots, spider-like creatures made to disintegrate and destroy any and all code around it, all for the sake of laying waste to the internet, with Alan being her first target. Viewing this as something that would benefit the both of them, Dark proudly shows off her creation to Chosen, only for him to take issue with it. Trying to stop her from sending a ViraBot to Alan's computer, when Chosen throws her to the ground as a way to prevent her from using the machine, Dark would end up submitting to her programming and trying to kill Chosen.

From there, the events of Animator vs. Animation Season 2 occur. Dark successfully sends a ViraBot to Alan's PC before being launched off by Chosen. After Chosen manages to stop the ViraBot from destroying Alan's computer, he returns to the Outernet where he and Dark initiate in a brawl across the internet. Eventually, after neutralizing Chosen for a moment, she pulls out the ViraBands, giving her an increase in power before going back out to fight with Chosen. Now having a power advantage, the Second Coming, along with the other Fighting Stick Figures, panick upon seeing this. Yellow manages to get Alan's help via programming his cursor into the area they were all in. Now a 2 v 1, Dark once again becomes overwhelmed, not being able to take on two powerful threats at once, resorting to pulling out the ViraBots for help. She manages to defeat Alan's cursor before pinning Chosen to the side of the cliff they were fighting at. Now with the complete upper hand, Dark prepares her killing blow on Chosen, only for Second along with his friends to intervene. Rushing and attempting to overpower her, Dark quickly proves far too strong, killing all four of the fighting stick figures and brutally injuring Second. Now, having seemingly won the battle, Dark opens the portals she has to the larger part of the internet, preparing to send the ViraBots off to cause mass amounts of terror.

However, before she is able to do such a thing, Second, having miraculously recovered from his injuries, returns in his awakened form, teleporting behind Dark, he begins to lay waste to her, destroying the ViraBots in the blink of a second before brutally beating Dark down with the other barely being able to do a thing about it. Now completely at his mercy, Second prepares one last laser attack, shooting Dark across the map before finishing her off with one last explosion.

Legacy[]

The impact that Dark left is still felt long after her demise. Chosen, having had a close bond with her, being severely affected by her demise, collapsing into tears the moment Second leaves along with the other (now revived) Fighting Stick Figures and Alan. With him experiencing many flashbacks to the past he held so dear.

The affects of Dark's actions can also be felt through Second and his friends. While Second can't remember what he did while in his awakened form, he can still very much remember everything Dark did beforehand, as can the other Fighting Stick Figures, causing them all to build an understandable resentment against her.

Dark's actions don't just affects characters mentally however, as she and Dark's rampage left countless dead, with the epilogue of the story revealing that Chosen met one of the victims of their attacks and how, to his horror, he can't even remember doing that. In general, while she doesn't have as direct an affect on the story as characters like Victim do, her influence is still very much felt throughout the story.

Epilogue[]

Dark is mostly mentioned in the past tense. However, the possibility of her ressurection and possible redemption are teased. Second, upon Chosen's agreement, decides to try and use his drawing powers to bring her back to life, this time without her code forcing her to push down an urge to kill her brother. Though whether they decide to go through with her revivial is up for interpretation as it's left up in the air within the story itself.

Personality[]

In contrast to her canon counterpart, who was portrayed as a flat, one-dimenstional sadist who was more than willing to kill her best friend/brother figure the moment they had a disagreement, along with attempting to wipe out the internet with ViraBots for seemingly no good reason, this version of Dark is portrayed as a far more sympathetic character. Not only caring deeply for her brother, but her main reason for villainy comes down to having to fight against her programmed mission of destroying Chosen, using the destruction of countless innocents in order to curb this programming.

Dark still has shades of her original personality however, she is still exciteable, and she still enjoys destruction, though to a noticeably lesser degree than in canon. She also has a bit of a temper on her, as seen by how, despite her efforts to rebel against her code, when Chosen starts disagreeing with her methods, she forgoes tha effort, angrily fighting against him and attempting to kill him.

Trivia[]

  • This version of Dark is considerably more sympathetic than her canon counterpart, to the point where she even borders on Anti-Villain territory, much unlike her original counterpart, who is completely, and unambiguously evil.
  • This version of Dark is female as opposed to her original counterpart, which is male.
