You are no god... but I shall feast upon your essence regardless!
~ The Devourer of Gods.
The Devourer of Gods is truly an enigma. Some say it's not even from this world at all. What is known is that he is a being that can devour the essence of Gods entirely, leaving absolutely nothing left. It's no wonder Yharim recruited that monster.
~ Amidias on the Devourer of Gods
The Devourer's armor was specially made by Draedon. Extremely flexible yet durable and massive, it may be one of his most impressive creations. I shudder to think of what unholy things he may be able to create now, if his research has not stopped.
~ Amidias on the Devourer's armor
The infamous, otherworldly glutton, in the flesh, his imposing title was self-granted, but undeniable truth made it stick, he is a formidable foe: Capable of swallowing Gods whole, absorbing their essence in its entirety, I ordered Draedon to armor his gargantuan form, so he could safely best even the greater Gods in single combat, fittingly, he possessed a serpent's tongue, he manipulated me incessantly, driving me to awful acts, I recruited him out of desperation. My war had dragged on for decades, and I would do anything to have it end, it was then my negligence was born, my descent began the moment recruiting this scoundrel crossed my mind, his absence of loyalty was clear as day, even at the time, however, I suspect it goes beyond that... The Devourer's alien capabilities and domineering tactics hint that his allegiance lay elsewhere, is he but one soldier, a mere pawn of a malevolence far beyond…?
~ Yharim on the Devourer of Gods

The Devourer of Gods or D.o.G, is one of the three overarching antagonists (alongside Xeroc and Noxus) of the Terraria Calamity mod. He is a enormous God-eating serpent who once was part of the god-seeking army, and one of those responsible for the degradation of Yharim's heroic mask.

Appearance[]

The Devourer of Gods is currently a gargantuan worm-like serpentine with pincer-like jaws, which makes he appear like a cross between a snake and a bobbit worm, with purple armor, in his second form he grows larger in size and his armor has a rougher finish.

In the near future, the Devourer will receive another redesign and will probably look like the proposed design as a serpent.

Biography[]

The Devourer of Gods, A gigantic serpent originating from a dark and distorted parallel dimension, created by a superior malevolent entity that reigns in his home dimension, created with a single and clear purpose, to devour the so called Gods from Terraria, consuming the godly essence of their torn bodies and somehow sending to his master, the serpent exaggerated his capabilities, possibly in an attempt to enter Yharim’s forces, taking advantage of the GodSeeker's desperation to end his war, the serpent dulled the subtlety and encouraged Yharim's impulsiveness, as this meant more gods to devour, the Devourer lied blatantly and indirectly was responsible for countless of the atrocities committed by the Tyrant, taking advantage of each catastrophe, he was never loyal, for his loyalty lay elsewhere, at the hands of whatever rules the Distortion, even above him.

Personality[]

The Devourer of Gods is a beast, yet aware of his actions and incredibly intelligent, managing to deceive and manipulate the GodSeeker to achieve his goals, but one thing is certain in the Devourer's entire personality, he is arrogant, proud, narcissistic and selfish, the Devourer cares little about the allies around him and thinks only of himself, even those of his own kind like Storm Weaver are subject to being victims if the Devourer finds them a danger to him, The Devourer is also power-hungry, always wanting to achieve more and more and always eating more than he can handle, he is sadistic, he enjoys the suffering of others and is completely prejudiced about the creatures around him because he thinks he is invincible and the best at everything, cited by Draedon as a bothersome yet fascinating being.

Bestiary entry[]

The Devourer of Gods:"An entity of many titles and reputations, it is easy to conflict the truth and myths of its many legendary deeds. Though Yharim once believed that the essence he devours is utterly and completely erased from existence, it is a fundamental rule of creation that energy cannot be destroyed– it can only be transferred from one form to another."

Trivia[]

  • The Devourer of Gods was not the only invading pest escaping from the Distortion, of course, by far the strongest among them all, they being Signus, an unfathomable assassin made to help the serpent in his mission, Ceaseless Void, a fissure in the fabric of reality, very similar to the portals of the Devourer himself, but stable and visibly older than the Devourer, dating back to the golden age of the draconic era, even though he insists that he created it, and Storm Weaver, a serpent similar to the Devourer, however smaller and younger, the larger serpent only sees it as a danger to be eliminated due to its potential, but the smaller serpent just wanders through the skies consuming the remains of the civilization that once dwelled in the skies, since it seems to lack greater duties like the other beings of the Distortion like the Devourer, as if it were considered unworthy of attention by they superior, there are also the Cosmic Guardians, inferior and mindless serpents who follow everything the Devourer says.
  • The Devourer of Gods' Phase 2 boasts 100 individual segments, making it the longest boss in the mod.
  • The Devourer of Gods' name is often shortened to "DoG" within the community, and is even referred to as such in the tooltips for the Lacerator and the Alicorn buff. This often leads to jokes comparing the boss to a dog, or giving it memetic nicknames such as "Doggo".
  • It is implied that the Sepulcher, a creature created by Calamitas, is meant to resemble what the Devourer will become should it continue to seek power 'A contemplated possible future of the cosmic serpent, a gruesome warning for those blinded by the hunger for power.'
    • No, the Devourer of Gods will not become directly The Sepulcher. Anyways, this tooltip works more as a metaphor because of how power hungry the Devourer is, and in a way says how, if he did not stop, or in our case, killed, eventually he would just be another mindless beast running around, or perhaps a part of the crawling tomb of Calamitas
