The Marionette is the main antagonist of the Soul tetralogy, by LadyDaybreaker.

He serves as the main antagonist of Soul, Soul: Shades and Soul: Demons, and the secondary antagonist of Soul: Guardian Angel.

He's a sentient animatronic puppet that seeks to have a family that it can use to kill night guards and entertain himself. He's the archenemy of Emily Fitzgerald and Robert "Robby" Schmidt II.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

When the young Emily Fitzgerald is murdered by Scott in front of Fredbear's Family Diner, the grief-struck Fredbear and Spring Bonnie stuff her corpse inside the Marionette animatronic. However, while her soul moves on, the Marionette was still given sapience and became a malicious entity trying to create a "family". Somehow meeting Scott, the two teamed up.

Soul[]

When Scott kills four children he lured to the backstage, the Marionette guides the souls inside the Freddy's animatronics from the backstage. When the souls realise they are trapped and can't leave, the Marionette explains that overtime, they will able to walk as lost souls during the day, but will always return to their shells from midnight to 6 AM. Later on, when they're asleep, Scott puts four chips inside each of the animatronics, thanks to which they're aggressive and under the Marionette's control every night. When Jeremy Fitzgerald is hired as the night guard, the Marionette starts brainwashing the Toy animatronics to do his bidding and hunt for him. One night, the Marionette gets locked inside the box by Foxy when the Toys fight the Withereds, after which it backs down. That said, one day, it was strong enough to mess with Foxy's head during the day, and make him imagine Jeremy as Scott trying to lure away another victim. Foxy attacks Jeremy and bites off his frontal lobe, causing The Bite of '87.

For the following ten years, the Marionette would use the four classic animatronics to murder night guards. It's also been implied that he's somehow connected, and maybe even responsible, for the nightmares Mikayla "Mike" Schmidt, the sole survivor of the killings, endures every night throughout the decade.

Soul: Shades[]

Rarely appearing in person, the Marionette once again uses the animatronics to kill Mike, the new night guard. It's even worse in Foxy's case, as he's haunted by Mike's brother. When Scott is killed and becomes Springtrap, the Marionette decides to help and team up with him. One night, where Springtrap's wraith tries to take control of Mike, the Marionette is confronted by the soul of Emily. They fight, and Emily wins, with the Marionette once again backing down and temporarily giving up on trying to kill Mike.

At the end of the fic, the pizzeria is set on fire and burns down, but the Marionette survives.

Soul: Guardian Angel[]

The Marionette is mostly overshadowed by Springtrap, once they are both moved to Fazbear's Fright. It haunts the attraction and tries to help Springtrap kill Mike and Jeremy. At the end of the fic, he tries to kill Jeremy, but is stopped by the soul of Emily temporarily taking control of the body. He survives the Fazbear's Fright fire, and upon Mike's death and resurrection in the Golden Freddy, finds herself another minion that he can use to kill people.

Soul: Demons[]

Ten years later, once the animatronics are rebuild into their Nightmare counterparts as part of a horror attraction, the Marionette makes Nightmare Fredbear (aka Mike / Golden Freddy) kill the night guard of the place they reside in. Once Mike's teenage son, Robby II, moves in to his grandfather's house, the Marionette keeps brainwashing the animtronics to kill him (in Foxy's and Mike's case, they are trying to kill their nephew and son respectively), all while taunting him during a few nights. Eventually, Mike is consumed by her hatred and becomes Nightmare - something that has happened before, as shown in a previous chapter, although the truth about Nightmare wasn't revealed back then. When Springtrap tries to pick a fight with Nightmare, the Marionette states to the creature that they have to kill Robby II. Nightmare decides she doesn't take orders from anybody and slashes the Marionette's face with her claw, killing him. At the end of the fic, Nightmare is stopped and all the souls manage to move on, permanently reversing all the damage that has been done by the Marionette over the past few decades.

Trivia[]

This is perhaps the most evil Marionette to date.
Marionette thinks that his "family" belongs to him and that trying to free the souls would be stealing from him.
Hilariously enough, despite the entire Soul series being released in 2015, it correctly guessed some facts about the Marionette that wouldn't be revealed until two years later - Namely, the animatronic is a he and the soul is a she, and that the soul's name is Emily (in the fic's case, it was her first name, but in the game series, it was her last).
Given that a Heaven for animatronics is confirmed, it's possible that the Marionette ended up in the animatronic version of Hell - However, such afterlife was not confirmed. Thus, it remains unknown if the Marionette's "soul" has an afterlife or was completely erased from existence.
