Norman Polk, later known as The Projectionist, is the titular main protagonist of the BATIM Minecraft animated music video Projections by W Labs std.
He was the chief projectionist at Joey Drew Studios, who was hired to build the Maintenance Department with Wally Franks. However, before they can complete the department, they are attacked by the malevolent Ink Demon. For trying to protect Wally, Norman was later transformed into a monstrous ink creature with a projector head, which led to his being named the Projectionist. As the Projectionist, he will kill anyone who steps foot into the abandoned Maintenance Department.
His singing voice was provided by both Charlie "CG5" Green V and Lewis "Dawko" Dawkins.
Biography[]
Norman Polk is first seen applying for a job at Joey Drew Studio and although initially hesitant, he eventually accepts a job as a technician and chief projectionist, where he is tasked by the studio owner, Joey Drew, to build a projector. After working all night, Norman manages to finish the projector before he meets his co-worker, Wally Franks. Norman and Wally were assigned by Joey to build a place called the Maintenance Department. After showing the blueprints, Norman and Wally teamed up and worked hard to build the place.
Because it was late, Norman decided to leave the studio. However, before leaving the studio, he turned off the lights in the department. Just as he turned off the lights, a demon-like figure appeared behind him before disappearing. Suspicious, Norman took a lantern to inspect the department. While checking, he saw an old projector, but didn't pay attention to it. Just as Norman turned around, the demonic figure appeared and it turned out to be the Ink Demon, which immediately assaulted Norman, causing his eyes to turn plain white and light up brightly. When Norman falls to his knees from being assaulted, Wally appears and sees that one of the machines is about to explode. Wally immediately ran and managed to grab Norman just as the engine exploded, causing green flames to scatter. From the green flames, the Ink Demon emerged and walked towards Wally. When the Ink Demon wants to take Wally, Norman throws a gear at the Ink Demon to distract him. Enraged, the Ink Demon uses his powers to bind Norman with ink before fusing him with it, turning Norman into an ink creature. Norman then becomes unconscious as Wally is dragged away by the Ink Demon. After dragging Wally away, the Ink Demon brings an old projector to Norman's unconscious body. Although not shown, it is possible that the Ink Demon beheaded Norman before attaching an old projector to Norman's body as a new head, which led to Norman being known as a cyborg ink creature called The Projectionist. Norman's intelligence and awareness are also lost, replaced by brutality and animal instincts.
In the present, the Projectionist is forever cursed to haunt the Maintenance Department, where if anyone comes to the department, that person will be killed by huk. When the Projectionist was looking at the place where he was transformed into a monster, the department lights suddenly turned on. Surprised because the department lights suddenly came on, the Projectionist immediately checked to see if there was anyone in the department. The Projectionist discovered that a human named Henry Stein was in the department. Angered by the presence of a human, the Projectionist chases Henry until the latter hides in a Little Miracle Station. When the Projectionist tried to reach the station, the Ink Demon suddenly appeared and immediately beheaded the Projectionist, which resulted in him being killed but also ending his curse.
Appearance[]
As the Projectionist, he is a very tall, black, inky humanoid figure with thin limbs. He has a working projector either over his head or as his head, which produces a constant light that he uses for vision. He also has reels of film and a small speaker on his chest and back. The Projectionist appears to be deaf, as he does not hear Henry wading through the pools of ink, even when he is right nearby.
As Norman Polk, he is a good-looking young man with fair skin, light blue eyes, and dark brown hair. He wore a long-sleeved white shirt with black lines on the sleeves covered by a brown sleeveless suit jacket. He also wore a tie, trousers and shoes, all three of which were black.
Personality[]
As Norman, he is a hard worker, genius, and diligent who is always determined to get the job done, such as when he successfully completed the projector and his determination to complete the Maintenance Department. Norman is also very friendly and close to those around him, especially Wally Franks, seeing him as a wise and fatherly mentor. His concern for Wally was finally shown when he sacrificed himself to protect Wally from the Ink Demon by throwing a gear at the demon, which ultimately angered the latter and him causing turned Norman into an ink creature. Norman, however, was also weak, as he didn't put up much resistance when the Ink Demon was about to turn him into an ink creature.
As the Projectionist, from the outside, he appears to be a silent and mindless creature who is only seen walking around aimlessly and supervising the Maintenance Department. However, on the inside, he is a hostile and savage creature, as he will attack anyone who enters the Maintenance Department without hesitation or thought. Even so, he is quite tragic, considering that he was cursed to become a terrifying ink creature and the only friend he considered as a father figure had to die. However, just like when he was Norman, the Projectionist was still weak, as the Ink Demon was easily able to kill and decapitate him.
