The Soulless are major antagonists of the Level UP series, serving as the secondary antagonist of the God Mode Luigi Arc.
They are mindless enemies from various video games and failed creations of Level DOWN that wander the Soulless Dimension, looking for those so that they can consume their souls.
Appearance[]
The Soulless maintain their original enemies appearance, however, their colors change to a more purple palette with dark black eyes and glowing yellow pupils. When hostile, the yellow pupils will glow red.
Biography[]
In "The Void between Worlds", while Level UP traverses through the Void a group consisting of a Goomba, Waddle Dee, and Tektite spy on him. This is continued in "Level UP vs The Soulless", where the enemies ambush the creator. Realizing that they are trying to steal his soul, Level UP conjures a sword and shield from The Legend of Zelda to kill the enemies. Soon, he has to battle a giant Soulless Goomba, before advancing furthermore. After getting through more Soulless enemies from different video games, Level UP finds a camp and another "Soulless enemy", he finds a Megalixir guarded by a Team Rocket Grunt and his Houndoom, summoning Wolfie to battle it. Both are overwhelmed and opt to escape and jump to the camp island, where the "Soulless" from earlier tosses a trampoline when the two don't have enough momentum to make it. There, the mysterious "Soulless" figure is revealed to the the survivor, Princess Plum, who was in a disguise the whole time.
After discussion between the two, Level UP denounces about retrieving the Megalixir from the Soulless Team Rocket Grunt, who summons the rest of his Pokémon. Princess Plum notes that she is aware of the grunt for a while, alongside his Soulless Pokémon. She then goes on to deduce that the Soulless are failed creations of Level DOWN who were banished to the Void and share a similar, but weaker power to his. Right as she says that, the Soulless Pokémon captures Level UP and Wolfie, before attempting to attack Plum. Plum backs out and travels furthermore in the Void, battling a couple more Soulless enemies in the process, with a giant Soulless Donkey Kong at the end of it before finding a warp pipe.
In "The Goomba Revolution - Into the Void", after going through the warp pipe and crossing more platforms, Princess Plum comes face to face with the Soulless Arbok and Venomoth, and is able to sneak past them to retrieve the Megalixir and distract them while Plumb now needs to find Level UP and Wolfie. Being able to pass the rest of the Soulless Pokémon, Plum finds the Soulless Grunt attempting to consume Level UP soul, and quickly pounces at him to get off. The Grunt and Pokémon notice Plum and prepare to battle the trio, before a recovered Level UP decides to summon some allies for counter. He ends up summoning the main members of the Goomba Rebels who are able to curb-stomp and defeat the Soulless Pokémon, causing the Soulless Team Rocket Grunt to flee.
In the outro for "Luigi does absolutely nothing while everyone tries to move him", Level DOWN is seen approaching Level UP, Princess Plum, and Wolfie, now seemingly with some Soulless Toads in hand.
Trivia[]
- It can be assumed that they were normal enemies as some point before being failed creations as minions with God Mode and getting banished to the Void by Level DOWN, where they lost their souls there.
- Princess Plum's foreshadowing was directly linked to her Soulless disguise, as besides not attacking Level UP, the costume she dons does not resemble any video game enemies.
