The Thing (Those Nights At Rachel's)

The Thing is the overarching antagonist in Those Nights At Rachel's.

Appearance[]

The Thing has a somewhat oval shapped head, he has a large evil grin on his face, lined with razor sharp teeth, empty eyes with purple pupils and purple tears below, running down to the top of his mouth, he seems somewhat angry due to his eye shape.

Behavior[]

The Thing hides behind the curtains, which can be found in the backroom behind the office. The phone guy constantly reminds the nightguard to never let those curtains fully open, if they do, The Thing will escape from the area behind the curtains and head straight for the players location, the phone guy stated that The Thing is one of the animatronics you cannot hide from.

On night 1 in normal mode, however, The Thing is completely inactive, the curtains will remain closed for the entire night, The Thing is active on night 1 in hard mode, and the curtains draw at rate in between night 2 and night 3 of the normal game.

On night 2 of normal mode, The Thing is introduced and the player must constantly check on him in the back area and close the curtains, in hard mode, light may need to be shined on him to see how much the curtains are drawn out so the player knows how long to hold space and pull to save time.

On each succeesful night in both versions of the game, the curtains will begin to draw open faster while the reason for the curtain to slowly pry open is mainly mechnical, it's not known why the curtains seem to open at faster rates, maybe the factor is supernatural.

The Thing can never leave the box while the power is still on and the curtains are closed, it seems he can only become awake once there is enough light on the box, when the curtains are opened as shown by watching the curtains open slowly on early nights when there is time, however, shining the flashlight at the room or the box directly does nothing, he can be seen while shining the flashlight that the curtains do not actually ever close all the way, always leaving a gap open to see the gift-box.

If the player runs out of power, the curtains draw open instantly and can not be shut, implying they are mechincally designed to be open by default, The Thing can be seen leaving his box slowly while playing music if the player watches, although the darkness impedes The Thing's speed, The Thing will jumpscare the player once he gets out of the box fully.

In the night 5 cutscene The Thing makes a appearance in the night 5 cutscene, the player will wake upon hearing thuds and laughter, the animatronics approach and turn on the lamp, the door will open and music will be heard, the player turns off the lamp and burry themselves deeper in the covers, the door will slam shut, and laughter will be heard, the player will turn towards the lamp only to be jumpscared by the thing only for the player to wake up to find out it was just a dream.

Trivia[]

The Thing seems similar to the Puppet from Five Nights At Freddy's 2 but seems more nightmarish in appearance.
