“ | According to Rob Wrecker, someone who had been here in the Void more than once, theorized that it could be alive and had a mind of it's own. Taking this fact into consideration, we decided to do some research about the Void for the past months and we discovered that Rob is right, the Void is alive and had a mind of it's own. | „ |
~ Lelouch describing the Void's evolved sentience. |
The Void is the overarching antagonist of All Worlds Alliance Missions: CROSSOVERDOSE and later the titular main antagonist of All Worlds Alliance CROSSOVERDOSE - Into the Void.
A limbo-like dimension beyond Elmore where "mistakes" are banished and are never to be seen or remembered again. It is revealed to be behind the Zero Goddess' Sadness' imprisonment within the Void.
By using her desperate pleas for help, the Void proceeds to psychologically torture her in an attempt to break her for good, which eventually culminated in both the Void and Sadness' powers colliding into each other. This resulted in the bright light being spread across the multiverse, causing the mass-disappearances of countless heroes, villains and other people alike. Due to this, it is the true mastermind of CROSSOVERDOSE and the final threat the AWA heroes face in the CROSSOVERDOSE arc.
Background[]
Past[]
Prior to the events of CROSSOVERDOSE, Rob Wrecker was one of the few people who were trapped in there. Eventually, Rob escaped from the Void, but the details of how he did remained unknown.
Sadness[]
Sadness, one of the Zero Goddess, became the next of the Void's victims, shortly after she escaped death following the conflict between Harmony and Discord that caused Light and Darkness to send her into a portal. However, the portal instead sent her into the Void.
Due to being an immortal goddess, Sadness was unable to kill herself, leading to the Void using her immortality as means to psychologically torture her. As Sadness' calls for help grew more desperate, the Void's torture on her continued on in increasingly cruel ways: giving her false hopes, using her isolation as a weapon and finally sending her "mistakes", all for her to see. Eventually, those factors led to Sadness using her powers, violently colliding against the Void's. What resulted is a massive tear in the fabric of space, resulting in countless dimensional borders being dissolved, as well as the infamous bright light that whisked countless heroes, villains and people, leading up to CROSSOVERDOSE.
Due to this, the Void used up all of its powers, causing it to be dormant.
CROSSOVERDOSE[]
Despite being dormant, the Void's influence remained significant and far-reaching regardless of its absence, as it became the talk of the AWA regarding the culprit's location. Notably, both the Apostles of the New World and Silas Moron take advantage of the chaos of the mass-disappearances as they wreak havoc, only for the AWA to later foil their plans throughout the story arc.
Eventually, in Chapters 46-50, the Void makes its appearance when Chizuru and Chikage Tachibana fight inside, with the former saving Rushia Uruha. After the AWA finally know of the Void's existence through Lelouch Lamperouge and Rob, they initiate the third and final stage of their plan and that is by finding out the culprit and by destroying the Void for good.
In Into the Void, the Void becomes the main antagonist as the AWA heroes with Lelouch's help manage to rescue the Zero Goddess' Sadness inside, before Lelouch proposed the idea of destroying the eldritch abomination: through a powerful explosive mixed with nuclear bombs and sakuradite. After multiple explosives were fired into the eldritch being, the Void was ultimately destroyed for good.
However, not all of it was permanently destroyed as Chikage managed to get the last laugh by retrieving a piece of it for his own goal of causing chaos.
Personality[]
There is some intentionality connected to the Void, despite the fact that it is only a location. As though it had a consciousness of its own, it manipulates Gumball and his buddies by making them totally unaware of its presence after just seeing it. In order to trap them within forever, it attempted to block the sole way out beforehand. Additionally, it shows little empathy for "mistakes," as seen by its sluggish capture of Rob, which led to his disfigurement and consigned him to an isolated life.
Although the exact reason for its determination to eradicate "mistakes" is yet unknown, the most likely explanation for its actions is that it wants to keep Elmore under control and in harmony. It can successfully alter the universe to suit its own tastes while avoiding notice by covertly eliminating what it considers undesirable.
While the Void in the original had an unclear sentience, whether it does it under its own volition or not, the Void in AWA has a much clearer sentience and moral agency, as revealed by Rob and Lelouch that it has a mind of its own. It is far more sadistic than in the original, having deliberately imprisoned Sadness inside of it and taking advantage of her desperation by sending "mistakes" on her.
