I wear his face. His words are buried below. Find them. And know my beginning.
~ The Yellow Rabbit's hidden message.
This observation led me to a second, even more disquieting theory which I grow more confident in by the minute: It seems that through my past unsavoury actions, I have – ironically – created (or more accurately) inspired life. This monster wears the face of my great work... but it is no machine. It is a living, breathing organism - its heart pumping with hatred... its flesh woven from pure agony.
~ William Afton's second epiphany about the YellowRabbit.

The Yellow Rabbit is the titular main antagonist of WA_121393_Log_The_Rabbit_Beyond_Me, a hidden subvideo which is part of The Unwithered Truth's Five Nights at Freddy's: ANNIVERSARY, a concept of what a hypothetical reboot of the first Five Nights at Freddy's game would look like if the story had been planned from the very beginning.

He is a sentient, anomalous construct of the raw Agony from William Afton's most heinous actions throughout history, taking the distorted form of his weapon of choice: Spring Bonnie. Having existed unnoticed for an unknown amount of time, the beast confronted Afton in his own office, giving the illusion that it was there to kill him. In truth, the monster allowed itself to be captured to further motivate Afton into studying the true power of Emotional Energy.

It was voiced by archive audio of Patrick Hickey Jr., who also voices him in the 2024 Into the Pit video game adaptation.

Appearance[]

And on the other side – a mirror. Or at least, that’s what I took it to be in that brief moment. It wasn’t until the creature unhinged its jaw of spiralling fangs that I knew I had come face to face with death.
~ Afton on the Rabbit's appearance.

The Yellow Rabbit is a monstrous desecration of William Afton's preferred springlock suit, as well as his weaponized mascot, Spring Bonnie; A yellow anthropomorphic rabbit with long eyelashes and a purple bowtie. According to William, the creature is fully organic instead of looking mechanic as the real suit does - often pulsating and snapping with violence, as if its very existence was painful.

The rabbit has sharp, knife-like fangs in place of the suit's friendly and rounded teeth, likely in reference William's murder weapon. Additionally, the creature lacks Spring Bonnie's green eyes, instead having beady silver eyes like the original springlock suits from Fredbear's Family Diner, possibly hinting that the Yellow Rabbit's origins remount all the way to the beginning of Afton's career.

Personality[]

Little is known about the Rabbit's personality or the full extent of his sentience, but it is noted by William that he acts incredibly violently, often twitching and pulsating like a rabid animal. Given its origins as an Agony creature, it is unknown if this is its a facade or its true personality slipping through.

William posits that, despite the creature's erratic violence, it let itself to be captured by him. According to him, the Yellow Rabbit's silver eyes stared at him knowingly after he subdued and captured him, as if that was always his intention.

Biography[]

Origins[]

Like his canonical counterpart, the Yellow Rabbit is an Agony construct formed from William Afton's most evil deeds, namely the Missing Children Incident and the Dead Children Incident. He takes on the form of Spring Bonnie, the suit most notoriously used by Afton, and his namesake as the Mascot Killer. It is unknown for how long the Rabbit had existed before revealing itself to Afton.

Confronting Himself[]

On December 13th, 1993, ten years after Afton began conducting experiments on Remnant, the Yellow Rabbit paid him a visit. He knocked on his office's door violently. Afton, expecting the commotion to be caused by his son Michael, answered the door, only to be greeted by what he thought was "a mirror."

The rabbit violently lunged at William, attacking him with his sharpened teeth. After a brief and bloody confrontation, William subdued the creature and managed to capture it. Afton, however, realized that the creature let itself be captured by him for reasons unknown.

In just his brief and superficial study of the creature, the man realized that it wasn't mechanical, but a completely organic construct writhing with hatred - woven entirely by the Agony of his actions. The creature's sole existence made Afton realize that he didn't understand the true nature of Emotional Energy despite his ten years of experience. Afton decides to keep the creature in captivity to further study it.

Trivia[]

  • William describing the Yellow Rabbit as a "mirror" is likely a reference to the Ultimate Custom Night track, Eisoptrophobia, meaning fear of reflections. This track is often connected to William's reaction to seeing Springtrap (which is to say, himself) attacking him.
  • In the official Five Nights at Freddy's canon, the Shadow Animatronics (more specifically, Nightmare and Shadow Freddy) are commonly agreed to be the agony-spawn of William Afton's actions as a whole, while the Yellow Rabbit only represents the Missing Children Incident and how his victims saw him moments prior to his death. It seems that the Yellow Rabbit takes on both of these roles in the reboot.
