Lord Tirek (or also simply known as Tirek) is a minor antagonist from the Character What franchise, and a villain from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
Personality[]
Much like his canon counterpart, Tirek is evil, power-hungry, narcissistic, sadistic, oppressive, ruthless, brutal, wrathful, abusive, cold-hearted and obsessive. His main goal to absorb as much magic from ponykind so he could become all-powerful, as well as seize control over all Equestria, and will stopped at nothing to accomplish it. However, he prefers to leave his enemies alive but powerless instead of killing them, so he can rule over them later. Tirek also has a violent temper, and his wrath is absolutely terrifying to behold.
Despite this, Tirek is quite patient enough to wait for a thousand years to escape Tartarus, recovering just enough power to become able to launch a assault on ponies. Tirek is also very manipulate and incredibly charismatic, as he was able persuade Discord into joining him, and later betray him by stealing the latter's chaotic magic after gaining enough magic to do so.
Despite his evil nature, Tirek does have a some redeeming qualities and standards. He is also sense of honour, capable of keeping his end of the bargain, such as when he keeps his promise by releasing Twilight's friends from captivity in exchange for Twilight's alicorn magic.
Biography[]
Character What: Magical Friendship[]
Tirek escaped from Tartarus after Cerberus left his post at the gates, and recently regained enough strength to absorb a unicorn's magic. Celestria received a vision of his this in her dream, causing Luna to see this vision and became fully aware of Tirek's return. After informing Twilight Sparkle and Shadow Joe of the upcoming threat, Celestria decided send Discord to track down the villain since he can sense a magical imbalance and therefore making easy for Discord to locate Tirek's whereabouts. After Discord found Tirek and bind in shackles, he explains his reasons for recapturing him is for the sake of his friends and the other ponies. Upon learning this revelation, Tirek manipulates Discord into believing that friendship was "a new form of imprisonment" and that if they work together to take over Equestria, he will grant him freedom which is "something more important than friendship". Discord foolishly agrees, despite his friendship with Fluttershy. With Discord at his side, Tirek continues absorbing magic from unicorn, pegasi and earth ponies alike all across Equestria, becoming more larger and stronger, and almost regain his power. Knowing that Tirek will go after Alicorn magic next, Princesses Celestria, Luna, and Cadence, with no other choose, but to transfer all of their magic into Twilight Sparkle and instruct to go into hiding, as they believe that Tirek is not aware that fourth alicorn princess exist. As expected, Tirek arrives in Canterlot in search for the Princesses' magic, only to find out that they no longer had magic for him to absorb. As revenge for his imprisonment, Tirek banished the three princesses to Tartarus as he once was. As sign for his gratitude and loyalty, Tirek gave Discord the medallion he wore around his neck and exclaims that it originally belonged to "someone very close to" him, before discovers a stain glass with Twilight Sparkle in it and demands to know why Discord didn't tell him about a fourth alicorn princess existence. Discord explains that he wasn't sure if Tirek could be fully trusted, but now knowing that he is, and direct Tirek to Twilight's home in Ponyville. When they arrive, Discord betrayed Twilight's friends and imprisons them in a cage, Tirek appears and absorbs their magic, growing more powerful than before. In a cruel twist, Tirek absorbs all of Discord's chaos magic since he had no longer use to him. A weakened Discord was reminding Tirek about the medallion that he gives him easier, Tirek says that the medallion actually came from Scorpan and considers Discord to be worthless as his brother. Tirek seeks out Twilight, destroying her home of the Golden Oak Library in his search, enraging her and engages them in a fight in an intense battle of magic. The two are evenly matched, though Twilight seems to have a slight advantage, so Tirek reveals the Mane 5, Spike, Shadow Joe and Discord, trapped inside magic bubbles. Tirek offers Twilight a trade; the release of her friends in exchange for all the Alicorn magic in Equestria. Despite her friends' protests, she agrees to trade her magic in exchange for her friends except Discord, Twilight wanted to Discord to be release as well. Although Tirek didn't understand why Twilight would still consider Discord to be a friend after betraying her, Tirek complies and absorbs all of her alicorn magic, increasing his size and strength, becoming more powerful than ever. However, a remorseful Discord gives Twilight's Scorpan's medallion, as a sign of legitimate gratitude, it proves to be the final key needed to unlock the Tree of Harmony box. The Mace Six open the box, gaining rainbow power, and confronts Tirek with their new abilities. Tirek fires a powerful magical blast at them but had no effect on them. With their magic, the Mace Six drain Tirek of all of his stolen magic and re-imprisoning back in Tartarus within a cage, guarded by Cerberus.
Much later in the series, Tirek still remains imprisoned, where the Mane Six visit Tartarus and accuse him of being responsible for stealing all magic in Equestria, which Tirek denies it. Triek revealed to be pen pals with Cozy. He also conspired Cozy Glow to drain the magic Equestria of all its magic for the sake of revenge. Though Cozy successfully trapped the Mane Six in Tartarus. Twilight made Triek realized that if they trapped in Tartarus, he'll be trapped with them forever, Pinkie Pie annoys him with her insane and clownish antics to the point of giving the remains of his magic to help the Mane Six escape just to get rid of them. After the Young Six break Cosy Glow's spell, Tirek gets his magic back, which hits him in the head and knocks him down.
Shorty later, while still imprison in Tartarus, Cozy Glow annoys him by continuing to try to befriend him, before they are suddenly transported out of Tartarus. Reappearing in a mysterious cave, Tirek and Cozy Glow met Queen Chrysalis, who accuses them of summoning her, though Cozy Glow though she freed them from Tartarus. At that moment, King Sombra suddenly appears, causing all of three of them to accuse of summoning them to the cave, only for Grogar (who is actually Discord in disguise), a ancient tyrant ram, who reveals himself to be the one who responsible for summoning them to his cave. Tirek, Chrysalis and Sombra are shocked to see "Grogar", as they believe he was just a legend, thought "Grogar" assures them that he is real and states that he summoned them as part of his plan to rid Twilight Sparkle and her friends from Equestria. Cozy Glow never heard about "Grogar", he decides to demonstrate his power by giving Tirek a sample of magic to restore much of his strength. Tirek then tells Cozy Glow that "Grogar" is ancient and extremely powerful villain, as well as the former ruler of what would become of Equestria, claiming that he had heard stories of his tranny when he was younger. "Grogar" then tells the villains how create foulest monsters and allowed to roam the land, taking what they wanted and destroying the rest under his rule, before Chrysalis remarks how Gusty the Great rose up and banished him, although "Grogar" claims that he was only temporarily weakened after she took his bell; however, Cozy Glow points out that, since he has been weakened before even Tirek was born, he has a very different idea of what "temporarily" means, much to his annoyance. In reality, Gusty the Great really did banish the real Grogar forever with no chance of returning. "Grogar" proceeds to tell the group that he has been spending the past millennia recovering his strength and observing their failures to take over Equestria, and questioned them why they have always been beaten by the Mane Six ease time, Tirek claiming it was because they are "Annoyingly Lucky". "Grogar" rebuffs their answers and claim it is because they work together as a team to defeat their enemies, demanding the villains to join forces with him to take over Equestria. However, Sombra refuses to join "Grogar" and arrogantly proclaims that he will take over the Crystal Empire by himself, causing "Grogar" to send him off to the Crystal Empire on the condition that, if he fails, he will join him or be destroyed again. After this, "Grogar" tells the other villains to prepare to work together and leaves. Cozy Glow immediately compares working together to making friends, telling Tirek and Chrysalis that they are in luck since she knows "all about that", only for Tirek to flick her away in annoyance. Gozy Glow tries to get Tirek and Chrysalis to work together by having them ease say nice things to ease other, but this falls apart when Chrysalis refuses to say anything nice about ponies "Grogar" then returns and states that he hopes that the three of them will be enough to help his plans along, causing Tirek and Chrysalis to question about Sombra.
Character What: The Last Stand[]
Tirek makes her final appearance in the episode My Little Pony III, she along with Queen Chrysalis and Cozy Glow successfully turned pony tribes against ease other so there will be no pony to help Twilight Sparkle and her friends. Tirek, Chrysalis, and Cozy Glow absorb the magic from "Grogar's" Bewitching Bell, transforming Tirek into his third form but much stronger. They betrayed "Grogar" and used his own bell to drain his power, revealing that Grogar was actually Discord in disguise, much to their surprise. When Chrysalis suggested of taking Discord's magic for themselves, but Tirek explains that only Discord can control it, due to being chaotic nature, and anyone else that attempts to use Discord's magic will be driven into madness. They agree to let Cozy Glow test the magic, knowing that she can't go through betraying them and take the magic back at her request after she couldn't control it, before setting out to conquer Equestria. Tirek fought and drained the Pillars of Old Equestria of their magic, before join alongside Chrysalis to save Cozy Glow from being defeated by the Mane Six. Tirek and Chrysalis arrive in time to back Cozy Glow up, during which they destroyed halt of Canterlot, while Twilight protect herself and her friends with a force-field. Chrysalis breaks through the force-field, and they almost to destroy Twilight twice, but Rarity stops them by hurling a boulder at them. They combine their magic to shoot a powerful magic blast at Twilight, but the other Mace 5, Shadow Joe, Celestia, Luna Spike and Discord holding their magic beam back the second time so Twilight teleport away. When Cozy Glow intent to destroy the prisoners and Chrysalis wants to torture them, Tirek wanted to hunt down Twilight Sparkle instead, knowing that she is a biggest threat. They argue over Cozy Glow trying to take Shadow Joe along with Celestia and Luna's magic from the bell, Tirek explains that cannot used the magic they stole without they figure out how to control Discord's magic first. Discord pretends to offer to tell them how use his chaotic magic in exchange for the release of the others, and insults Triek into trying blast him, which Discord reflects the blast with a crystal stone, and release Starlight Glimmer from her imprisonment, allowing her to release Shadow Joe, the Mane Six, Spike and the princesses from their imprisonments as well. Shadow Joe along with the other Mane 5 and Spike run off to get Twilight, while Celestia, Luna, Starlight and Discord fight Tirek, Chrysalis and Cozy Glow, who re-imprson them. When the Windigoes return as a result of the villains turning ponies against ease other, Tirek saying that the Windgoes are ancient magic and should be destroyed. Afterwards, the Mane 6, Shadow Joe and Spike arrive. During an attempt to get the bell, Tirek chases after Twilight, who trying to distract him, after which Tirek stopped Applejack from getting the bell. When Chrysalis orders the Mane 6 to surrender and threaten to pluck off Spike's wings and Tirek to rip Shadow Joe (who powers were drain by the Bewitching Bell during the fight with Cozy Glow) apart. The Mace Six immediacy give themselves up to save both Spike and Shadow Joe. The trio were ready to finish off Twilight and her friends with a powerful magic blast to finally get their vengeance and rule over Equestria. However, the Mace Six were saved by a magic barrier generated by unicorns, and an army of their allies join the battle against the villains. After the fight, as punishment for their crimes, Celestia, Luna and Discord turned Tirek along with Chrysalis and Cozy Glow in stone forever, ending their reign of terrors on Twilight and friends, meaning they will never harmed anyone ever again.
Fate[]
In Villains Turn Evil, Shadow Joe revealed that they place in Canterlot sculpture garden similar to Discord when he was turn to stone. Shadow Aaron was also aware about what happened to them, but he chose not to released them from their stone prison.
Trivia[]
- Tirek is one of the least recurring My Little Pony villains in the Character What series, only appearing in 7 episodes.
- In the episode based on Twilight's Kingdom, when Tirek is in his third form, his voice does not become deeper like in the original setting of Twilight's Kingdom. This could be a possible reference to how Mark Acheson decided to voice his more powerful form a bit more normally and not over the top in Season 4 of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
