Tobias is the overarching antagonist in the Tobias and the Sentinels trilogy, serving as one of the two main antagonists of Tobias and the Arcane Merchant (Alongside Oliver). He was Toby’s original consciousness and was Oliver's older brother.
He is voiced by Mr. Berkshire.

Background[]
Many years ago, Tobias began working at Laournaeth harbor with his younger brother, Oliver. Tobias usually bullied his littler brother, always put him down, belittled and outright threatened his brother for even the smallest infraction in spite of how much Oliver loved him.
After Tobias got into an collision one night with Montague while the diesel was pulling the express, a part of Montague's engine was implanted into Tobias's body to make him the first steam-diesel hybrid. But his conversion process was left incomplete, and had accidentally created a memory-wiped clone of Montague's consciousness, and thus had taken over Tobias’ body, and the latter’s mind became dormant. Tobias was taken away by the designers with promises to one day to complete his conversion, While Montague’s copied mind began starting living a peaceful life in East Anglia as Toby.
Tobias and the Arcane Merchant[]
Oliver arrives back on the Isle of Sodor, assuring he wants to come live here, Toby agrees, much to Henrietta, and his friends displeasure.
Oliver then uses a "war shire reset", on Toby, when a hybrid engine is flooded with water, it not only forces the engine to reset, but the entire persona of the engine as well. Oliver uses this to reawaken Tobias' personality to be dominant again.
At their reunion at Laournaeth, Oliver explains the Tobias’ consciousness became dormant due to his hybrid conversion was incomplete and that a different consciousness took over his body, The Designers tried to identify this personality, but they had no time, and so they had to leave Laournaeth and Oliver in a hurry. At first, Tobias refused to help his brother find the conversion machine, for Oliver to use it on himself, but Toby’s consciousness was revealed to still be trapped in his body. When this became apparent to Tobias, he then agreed to Oliver's quest to go looking for it to in order to get rid of Toby. Tobias and Oliver return to Sodor to look for clues for the machine’s whereabouts, while Tobias denies Thomas’ help for stopping James from sending him away. Toby attempts to stop Tobias, by tricking him by manipulated his minds, making false memories.
Toby’s coach, Henrietta recognizes Tobias has taken over his body, and tried to find a way to bring Toby back.
After a enraged Tobias killed a guard from his own train, It's then revealed that when Tobias was converted into a hybrid, a part of Montague's mind was carried over along with his engine. This persona is which was now become Toby’s identity, and has been controlling his body for the past eighteen years. Tobias then tortures Toby to forcibly admit he’s actually Montague, being reborn, as well as showing the other Sudrians who Toby really is, by Tobias brutally murdering Thomas in cold blood, thus silenced Toby in his subconscious.
Tobias has then oppressing the Sudrian engines on Sodor, Tobias reveals to Oliver that not only had he’d remembered now the machines location, he realizes the answer was marked on a crane, Oliver had been pulling around. Oliver tricks Tobias the next morning, as he’s beating Tobias to the conversion machine whereabouts, thus Tobias leaving Sodor, with Oliver secretly following him.
After arriving at the whereabouts of the machine, he realizes Oliver was following him, he double cross him and get to the machine first, Henrietta and Daisy later arrives, a battle commences between them and the now enraged Tobias. As the fight extends, the two performs another war shire reset by knocking over a water tower behind Tobias, Tobias' engine is then flooded but he still resists and knocks Daisy out cold as he begins to have a one on one showdown with Henrietta by slamming her against a pair of buffers. As Tobias attempts to destroy her, Henrietta notices Toby's face trying to wake up, she then calls out to him and tells him in his mind to wake up.
Despite Tobias's resistance, Toby was able to break free and the warshire reset is able to activate as Toby and Tobias both let out a loud scream. After Toby is reawakened, it left him being traumatized and horrifically scarred with Toby’s self identity shattered, with now a visible scar adorning his face, his left eye half-transformed like Tobias.

Tobias was a narcissist, through and through, wanting everything to go his way. He was nasty, demeaning bully who regularly put down his brother Oliver and viewed everyone else as beneath him. He had a notably short fuse and was set off by the slightest offense, like when Thomas called him 'Toby'. Whenever Oliver tried to advise him to use prudence, Tobias interpreted it as his younger brother giving him orders.
After being reset, Tobias becomes arrogant, violent, cold-hearted, sadistic and ruthless as he kills a guard and mocks Toby with the revelation that he is actually Montague reborn. But when Toby retains faith in those who still stand by him, Tobias destroys said faith by brutally murdering Thomas, showing just how far he is willing to go to stay in control.
Victims[]
- A Guard: After being enraged, he deliberately derails his own goods train, knocking the guard out of the break van right onto the middle of the tracks, and then ran over by Tobias.
- Thomas the Tank Engine: After Thomas tried to reason with him, Tobias knocked him off the rails before smashing into him into pieces.
Technical Details[]
Tobias shares the same basis as Toby, based on a GER Class C53 0-6-0T Wisbech steam tram (reclassified as J70 by the LNER), and has been painted brown with grey side plates and cowcatchers. He has the number "7" painted on his sides in yellow with a red border, he used to have LNER lettering painted on his side plates when working at Laournaeth.
After Oliver resetting Toby, he gains blue eye irises. When his first kill truly pushes him over the edge of acts of extreme violence, his scleras completely blacken, and wide, jagged black cracks spread out from them across the rest of his face. He is often seen smiling wider than thought possible, an uneven, stretched, disturbing grin that shows his true insanity.
