| “ | So THAT'S why you're standing in the way of everyone's hopes and dreams? Why do you think YOUR life is hard because you can't kill people? How petty. The monsters who live here don't have half the privileges you have on the surface! Sunlight, starry skies, beaches, a future! We don't have any of that down here! Everyone is counting on ASGORE... ON ME, to free us from this place that has kept us confined here for centuries!! People have died of old age, children ask their parents when they will be free... and ASGORE to this day fears not fulfilling the promise he made to the people! Do you know what promise? That monsters could one day live on the Surface, in peace!! This is what I fight for! And you're telling me you're going to stop us... just to cause pain and suffering?! I don't understand! What's so fun about killing people?! "My life is hard because I can't take blood from others"?! Please. You don't kill for love! You kill because it's easy for you! Because it's fun for you! And your happiness is your concern?! And those you killed?! What did they do to you?! Do you find it funny when people never return to their families?! Is it funny?! | „ |
| ~ Undyne to Himiko Toga after she tells her why she must return to the Surface. |
Undyne is a major antagonist of the Brazilian Spirit Fanfics fanfic "Uma Sorridente Determinada", (A Determined Smiler in English) a Boku no Hero Academia X Undertale crossover written by @JuliaeJulio.
Like her original version, she is the leader of the Underground Royal Guard, tasked with killing a human so that King Asgore Dreemurr can use the human's SOUL, along with the other six collected ones, to attain absolute power and break the barrier that traps the monsters in the Underground to exterminate humanity.
She hunts Himiko Toga, the eighth fallen human, relentlessly throughout Waterfall until a battle between the two, where Himiko escapes her and saves her from heatstroke after she passes out from dehydration in Hotland. She is Papyrus' mentor and close friend, and one of Himiko Toga's two archenemies, alongside Flowey, as well as one of her most dangerous foes.
According to the author, Júlio, she is written in the voice of Anne Hathaway in mind.
Personality[]
Just like her original self, Undyne brings determination and passion to everything she does. Once she sets a goal, she'll do whatever she can to achieve it, which includes killing Himiko to give her soul to Asgore Dreemurr.
She initially appears stoic and firm, calculating, but upon meeting Himiko in the Undyne Arena, she reveals a much more explosive and angry personality. She is deeply misanthropic toward humanity, blaming them for the monsters' imprisonment in the Underground and extending the blame to Himiko, even though she wasn't even born when the humans sealed the monsters.
Despite being stubborn and furious, Undyne is far from lacking in redeeming qualities. Like her canonical self, she is a well-intentioned extremist who only wants her people's freedom. Even Himiko realizes this after escaping from her in Hotland and recognizes her as a "true hero." She also has a good friendship with Papyrus and Alphys, and since the fanfic follows the Neutral Route of the original Undertale, it is assumed she still has her friendship with Asgore.
Biography[]
Undyne is first seen at the beginning of Waterfall, when Papyrus meets with her, giving her his report that he was unable to capture the human who arrived. Undyne declares that she will hunt the human alone. Papyrus tries to convince her that it's unnecessary, but Undyne remains firm in her belief that humans are enemies and convinces him to help her. Himiko, who was in the nearby woods, tries to sneak away, but Undyne hears the rustling and approaches, drawing a spear, ready to attack. When she no longer hears anything, she retreats, allowing Himiko to escape.
In an area with wooden bridges, Undyne attacks Himiko, firing several spears at her, forcing the human to flee into a thicket of bushes. Undyne goes into the bushes and tries to catch Himiko, only to accidentally grab Monster Kid. With a sigh of disappointment, she lets go of the boy and retreats. In another area with several bridges, Undyne finds and attacks Himiko again, sending several spears flying from the ground until she corners the girl in a dead end. To Undyne's shock, Himiko jumps from that height to the Dumpster, escaping her for the second time.
After Himiko leaves the corridor of lights, Undyne corners her again in a dead-end path. In a stoic voice, she announces how Asgore will achieve absolute power by absorbing six human souls and, with such power, "will make humans pay for all the pain and suffering they have caused us". Undyne orders Himiko to hand over her soul or else she will rip it out herself. Monster Kid abruptly appears to try to help Undyne fight, unaware that it is Himiko she will be fighting. Annoyed, the warrior drags the child away and tells him that Himiko is human, and tells him to stay away from her because humans are "dangerous."
Undyne finds Himiko on the bridge, where Monster Kid is hanging, about to fall. As the boy nearly falls, Undyne tries to save him, but Himiko acts faster, grabbing him and pulling him up. Grateful, Monster Kid steps in front of the human, shielding her from Undyne, who, surprised, backs away.
Not long after, Himiko reaches the Undyne Arena, where Undyne herself stands at the top. She repeats her monologue from earlier, preparing to tell Himiko the story of the Human-Monster War. However, having forgotten, she gives up and shouts "SCREW IT!!!," stating that the story isn't worth telling, since Himiko is about to die anyway. She removes her helmet and states that Himiko is standing in the way of hopes and dreams. She claims that Himiko cannot fool her with her kindness, saying that she knows the eyes of a killer when she sees one, comparing the girl to a predator waiting for the right moment to kill its prey.
The two begin to fight, with Undyne declaring that she will not let Himiko deny the monsters the chance to see the light of day. An annoyed Himiko states that she only sees the monsters and the people she saves as people, saying that heroes should not kill and that they should be compassionate, with the Amazon stating that this is bold coming from "the one whose kind trapped us here." Himiko talks about how she always wants to take blood from those she loves, and how suppressing those instincts as a child never worked, saying the world is too hard to live in and that's why she has to return, to make things easier. Undyne, initially surprised, laughs at this, before becoming serious, calling this motivation petty, resulting in the second quote at the top of this page. Shaken by all this and beginning to lose her grip on her beliefs, Himiko no longer finds the strength to fight back and decides to flee, with a furious Undyne in pursuit.
Upon reaching Hotland, the intense heat makes Undyne feel sick from dehydration and faints. However, with her newfound respect for the warrior's heroism, Himiko fills a small cup with water from a drinking fountain and pours it over Undyne to rehydrate her. Waking up, Undyne finds Himiko nowhere to be seen. Without a word, she retreats, returning to her home.
Trivia[]
- Himiko calling Undyne a "true heroine" may or may not be a joke/reference to her battle theme in the Genocide Route, "Battle Against a True Heroine".
