I would like to preface this blog by stating its purpose. As the title suggests, this is not an actual CM proposal. Rather, it is a draft of one that I have made. The reason being another user, Mr TV Canada, has expressed interest in submitting a proposal on my behalf. This draft is for his use should he consider making a proposal, and is also open to user feedback. If any wiki staff determine this post to be against the rules, please tell me, and I will refrain from making similar posts in the future. (This note is obviously not a part of the proposal, but the spoiler and mature tag at the top are).

What's the Work?[]

"Nostalgia Trip", a video game Creepypasta written by Icydice

Who are they and what have they done?[]

Mr. O (Nostalgia Trip) is the primary antagonist of the Nostalgia Trip Creepypasta. He is a manipulative and disturbed man who has a history of molesting children, grooming, and producing child pornography.

He is responsible for developing an original video game titled "Township:Village!", which essentially serves as a grooming simulator for the story's protagonist, Jeremy. The game constantly forces Jeremy into seemingly awkward and inappropriate situations with Mr. O, normalizes Mr. O's presence in Jeremy's life, and conditions Jeremy to keep quite about Mr. O's grooming. He does all of this because of his perverted interest in Jeremy specifically, and seeks to exploit Jeremy's love for video games in an attempt to manipulate him.

Eventually, Jeremy represses these traumatic memories, but as he revisits his childhood and rediscovers his old game, he is forced to relive these events and learn the truth about what happened in his past.

The direct consequences of these actions include the inducing of emotional trauma onto Jeremy, Sam (Mr. O's Son), and Jeremy's mother. Indirect consequences of these actions include the suicide of Sam's mother and Jeremy's father.

Mitigating Factors?[]

There is no excuse or tragic motivation which justifies Mr. O's actions. He isn't a character who is redeemed, or painted in a humorous or positive light. However, there are two potential mitigating factors which I would like to address.

The first mitigating factor is the idea that Mr. O is a shock character. There is no denying that the descriptions of what he's done might raise a few eyebrows. Although I believe reading the Creepypasta in full will make it clear he is not a shock character, I will do my best to summarize why he isn't.

Firstly, although Mr. O's actions are abhorrent, the story does not go into explicit detail of him doing such things. In fact, Mr. O being a child molester and a person who has produced child pornography is not even explicitly stated until towards the end of the story. The majority of the story builds up to that realization, giving subtle hints about his true nature within the game "Township: Village!". For example, instead of just shoving it into the reader's face that Mr. O produced child pornography, it instead has his character in the game take photos of Jeremy's character, and reward him afterwards. Instead of directly stating that Mr. O is a child molester, groomer, and a pedophile, the game shows us Mr. O stalking Jeremy, forcing Jeremy's character into compromising situations, and forcing Jeremy to become dependent on him in the game world. The point is, Mr. O's predatory behavior is largely shown rather than stated, and when it is shown, all the reader gets are implications rather than drawn out, disturbing scenes.

Secondly, Mr. O is held accountable for his actions. He is apprehended by the police, and convicted of his crimes.

Thirdly, Mr. O's predatory nature does not just exist for the sake of being uncomfortable. His behavior directly results in the psychological trauma of several characters, and from there, those characters are given arcs relating to them coming to terms with their trauma, learning to live with it, and learning to move forward. For example, Jeremy rekindles his friendship with Sam and destroys the game, and the two friends vow to be there for each other. Jeremy's mom, who hid the truth to avoid losing her son like she lost her husband, finally comes clean about what happened to Jeremy during his childhood, and the two are given an opportunity to rebuild their relationship.

The second mitigation one might point to is the fact that Mr. O has a wife and child. One might infer that this means Mr. O is capable of love. However, I believe this mitigation is refuted by Mr. O's personality description on his page.

"Mr. O is completely obsessed with Jeremy, going so far as to exploit Jeremy's love for video games to groom him. He is a perverted individual who has a history in repeatedly engaging in sexually predatory behavior towards minors. This perversion goes so far that he does not care how much trauma he induces upon his family and his victims."

Even if one could make the argument Mr. O can love somebody, it is clear that fulfilling his lustful desires is far more important to him than caring for others.

Heinous Standards?[]

Seeing as how Mr. O is the primary, and only real antagonist in Nostalgia Trip, he pretty much sets the standard. Child molestation, producing child pornography, inducing mental trauma and suicide, and grooming are all far beyond the moral event horizon, and are lines Mr. O has apparently crossed multiple times, given his apparent predatory history.

Verdict?[]

I believe Mr. O qualifies as a complete monster.
